Chapter 48 48
Phoebe~~
Soon, my whole body began itching badly. It felt so hot, and my palm did little to nothing on the rashes, so my wolf was howling for the nearest attention.
I doubted that Knox was still around, and didn't even expect him, but I was so ashamed of stepping out of the room to the slave yard, where I could only go. I undressed and wrapped the bed cover around me, then turned on the air conditioner to the highest setting, hoping that it would reduce the itching.
But nothing changed, and I had no ointment in my room.
My wolf continued howling until my door was quickly unlocked, and Levi showed up. He looked stunned as he walked up to me, his brows wrinkled. “Are you okay? Why's your face like that?”
I shrugged my shoulders, “I can't tell, because I woke up like this.”
“Like this?” he came closer to touch my skin, then stepped back. “I will return with a healer,” he assured and left the room, so I continued from where I stopped, praying inwardly that he would return so quickly.
In the next few minutes, he returned with the healer, who immediately began administering treatments to me. He gave me an ointment that I would apply all over my body, then began asking a series of questions that I felt were annoying.
“Is there a remnant from the water you used to bathe last night?” he asked, and I shook my head. “That could have helped finding the source, but that doesn't mean the ointment wouldn't work.”
He also gave me a syrup which I would take, and after reading the instructions, I believed it would stop the itching and help clear the rashes too.
After the healer left, Levi approached the bed where I sat. “I don't advise that you leave for now, so stay indoors until you're very okay. I will assign a servant who will run errands for you,” he stated, and I appreciated his kindness.
He left as well, and I was left alone, so I freshened up, but this time directly from the shower while standing because I happened to be scared of the bathtub, which I sat in last night. I applied the medication as the healer prescribed, and then waited until my meal was served and I took the syrup.
Soon, I felt sleepy and dozed off. And when I woke up, someone was at the door.
I checked, and it was Vivien, but she instantly dashed in immediately I opened the door and sat on the chair there, with her legs crossed.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, walking towards the bed.
She raised her brow and cocked her head to the side, “Here to see what you look like with those rashes.”
“You did it!”
“Do you have any proof?” Her expression twisted, and I scoffed at her.
Of course, she did it. She poisoned that bathtub so I would get sick like this.
“Now, how would you stand before Knox and feel loved again? Would you still be able to flaunt your beauty before him?” she laughed and clapped her hands. “It was such great news this morning to know that you're looking like this. Just here to remind you that you aren't so beautiful to always be around him, because as it is now, you wouldn't want him to see you.”
I swallowed my saliva, trying not to get pissed by what she was blurting.
“How is it? Getting better?” she asked, and the door made a sound, drawing our attention.
We stared at it and watched it open, then Knox walked in.
I got to my feet, and so did she. “Aren't you at work?” I quickly asked, but his eyes were on Vivien, and there was this coldness that roamed in there. “You don't have to be here, because I'm not sure if the rash is contagious.”
“Alpha!” Vivien bowed, her fingers fidgeting. “It's nice meeting you this noon.”
But Knox ignored her and walked straight to me. He handed over the package he was holding and then turned to Vivien with a scowl. “What if I present proof that you are behind it?”
Her eyes enlarged, and she lowered her head.
“Now start leaving!!” he ordered, and her pace was so fast that she vanished from my sight in the blink of an eye.
I licked my lips and sat back, then began unsealing what he had brought. I didn't want to believe it, but this dude brought chocolates, sanitary pads and panties, cosmetics and deodorants, and then pastries.
“You're going to start menstruating soon. Did you forget?” He pulled my attention, and I nodded. I wasn't so good at taking notes of my menses, so he did that for me when we still dated, and now he had begun it again. “Let me know if you need anything else,” he said and turned to begin leaving.
I smiled and asked him, “Can I mindlink you?”
He turned and nodded, “Anytime!”
“Could you call Angeline? I feel lonely here.”
“But you have a cell phone….” he responded, and I furrowed my brows.
Was he dreaming or what? How long have I used a cell phone?
“Knox, I have none.”
“Then I'll get you one.” He gave me a thumbs-up and left the room.
He would get me one, so let's see if he's really going to do that. He also sent for Angeline, who came with the slave mistress, but the slave mistress left after a short time, and I had to stay alone with my friend.
They enjoyed the pastries, chocolates, and yoghurts with me while we chatted over them, and at night, our meal was served together.
When Knox returned, Angeline had to leave to return the next day, while I spent that night with him. This man took care of me like I was a child; he also gave me the cell phone he got for me, and I was more than happy.
That night, he again reminded me not to go back to the club, but I refused.
“Then promise me that you wouldn't give out your contact.”
I looked him in the eyes and nodded. If only he knew what I do there, but it should have nothing to do with him, because no matter what, I should have a life of my own.
“Don't you still hate me, Phoebe?” he asked, and I hesitated before shaking my head. “That's weird!”
I sighed, “How long was I going to keep hating you? I believe that I would find out what my parents did that made you act that way.” I uttered, but I couldn't fathom what he was thinking through his expression. “Can you stop talking about the past?”
It made me feel bad when he talked about it, because I would forget that what I was doing was a setup and begin blaming myself for everything again. I didn't want to feel hurt until I came to the end of it, so forgetting about my family for the time being was the best option.
For the next five days, Knox made sure I lacked nothing. He kept me company when he was around, and even missed a day and canceled his appointments when Angeline announced that she was going to work with the other slaves.
On the night I was to resume my job in the club, Levi leaked the good news to me.
“Vivienne has been sent out of the palace. That's why you haven't seen her for days now.” he glanced at me and wore a bright smile for someone who achieved his aim. “Alpha sent her out and ordered that she not return. He showed the evidence of her attacks on you, which is the reason she can't be Luna.”
What a marvelous night!
