Chapter 46 46
Phoebe~~
In the next two hours, I was done doing laundry for Knox. For goddess's sake, it was so hectic and something I didn't wish to ever do again, but I had to comfort myself by recalling that it was part of the sacrifices to get through his heart.
To be honest, unless I decided to, I never did laundry while in my father's house, and the ones I did were so little that I never felt hurt this way. My finger looked bruised, so I had to wait until he was back to get me an ointment to take care of it, since my wolf had refused to fasten our healing.
When the sun set, I went downstairs and packed up his outfits that I had washed, then began returning to his room so I would iron them before his return. I had just passed Vivien's corridor when the door suddenly opened, causing me to shudder and turn to be sure everything was alright.
I had even forgotten that someone like her existed in this palace, including how she hadn't stepped out ever since the day broke.
She shut the door while her eyes went from my face to the outfits I was holding. I didn't want to have a thing with her, so I began walking, but she called me back. “When did you become his cleaner?” she asked, and my feet went stiff to the floor. “Don't tell me you're doing all that to calm him down after leaving the palace and putting his life at risk out there while he was trying to find you,” she came again, and this one triggered me.
If I told her my mind, she wouldn't stay put in this palace. I just didn't want to conclude that just like she pushed me into the river, she planned this too. I hadn't even talked to Knox about his meal poisoning, because I had that feeling she was behind it, too.
After staring at her so much, but didn't say a thing, my wolf began pushing my leg towards the room again.
‘You mustn't respond to everything. She knew we were abducted, but just wanted to trigger your anger,’ my wolf warned, and I pouted as I stepped into Knox's room and the door shut.
I got rid of whatever anger that was beginning to swell in me and searched for his cloth iron, which I found and then brought out the ironing board which I used to begin my unpaid job.
My waist was already hurting me when I was done, and as much as I was pained that I had to go this length, I knew this would do more in his feelings as well. I arranged the outfits in his wardrobe and then cleaned up his room.
Done, I stood at the door, watching what I had done so far and shook my head. Things I never did to please him when we were still dating, ones he taught me as a survival skill, I was doing all now just to get through his heart and exact my revenge.
I nodded to myself, "It's already paying off. Proof is that bitch being scared of coming out of her room. Soon, she would leave this palace and let me fight for myself and my people in this pack. I can't imagine us being taken captive all because her father succeeded in his plans to overthrow Knox.” I mumbled and got seated right there.
All my body hurts, and maybe I wouldn't go this far again. When he saw them, he would be happy, and I was sure he wouldn't expect it all the time from me when the servants here were leaking through the gate.
I sat there for what felt like an eternity before the doorbell rang and I jerked to my feet. I sniffed, and it wasn't his scent, so I opened the door to see who it was. “Levi?! Alpha isn't here.” I said to him, and he slowly walked into the room and grabbed a seat.
I narrowed my gaze because I didn't like his aura.
“What is it? You shouldn't be here when Knox isn't back.” I retorted, making my way towards the bed.
He nodded, “But I needed to see you, to show how grateful I am for how you're doing it perfectly.”
I scoffed. I wasn't doing it for him, though, but who am I not to accept his gratification?
“And, alpha extended this message, that you should prepare him the meal like last time.”
The smiles that had spread across my face vanished that moment. I twisted my expression and folded my arms, “Are you two knots? Why should I do that after everything that happened the other time? The reason he didn't throw me back there could be because I was abducted, or what could have been my fate?”
He shook his head and pressed his lips together.
“Look, go back and tell him that I wouldn't dare that shit. Did you see how clean his room is? I personally did it, and I need a thorough massage right now. But that's not the issue….” I waved my hand at him. “I'm scared of committing myself again, because not even you will prove my innocence if it repeats itself.”
“It wouldn't, or even if it does, he wouldn't even suspect you, because he's already found the one behind it, but doesn't want to make a fuss about it until he grabs everything he's after,” Levi responded, his voice was demure enough for one to believe. “I have to take my leave, and please try to get it ready for him. He hardly demands things from people, so don't hurt him.”
I arched my brows while watching him walk out of the room. So Knox already found the source of the poisoning and doesn't want to talk about it? I had that feeling it was Vivienne, but who was I to judge when Knox kept shut?
For him not to take action meant that he had plans, and I doubted that Vivien knew she had been caught, or she would have left the palace already. He must be searching for proof, because that's the only way to put down Vivien and her father.
The news I heard just lightened my mood, so I hastened down to the kitchen where I began the preparation alone, like the other time. I made sure to bring things together, so I wouldn't have a reason to leave that exact spot until I was done. And excitedly, Knox was already back and was undressing when I brought in the tray of food.
“I'm done, dickhead!” I blew him a kiss and rushed into his arms. “Did you miss me?” I asked him, looking straight into his eyes. If an award was given to hypocrites, I would get it more than once.
He wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed my forehead, “I really did, that's why I rushed back home instead of working overnight.”
Uh-huh? I would have melted if it were then. But now, I stared at him like a devil in disguise while he vomited those fake feelings.
“I'm not going to the club tonight, because I need a massage. My body hurts.” I muttered and rested my head on his chest.
He chuckled and patted my hair, “Then I'll give you one. I already saw everything you did, so you really need one. But don't do that again. I don't pay cleaners for nothing.”
I knew that he wouldn't let me do such a thing again, and I didn't even plan to.
“Your meal will get cold.” I pulled away from him, but he grabbed me back again and had me sit on his palms, with my legs crossed around his waist. “Tell me, did you see any other woman as gorgeous as me?”
He shook his head and kissed my neck. “Let's give you a massage first. I could microwave the meal if it gets cold,” he muttered and lay me on his bed.
I didn't resist, because I surely needed the massage. I let him strip me completely, and then he crossed his legs over my body and kissed my back.
