Chapter 31 31
Alpha Knox~~
My gaze landed on Levi, who had been staring at me for goddess knew how long. The seat I was on seemed hot, so I stood to straighten my limbs. “If you have anything to say, please say it.” I was so tired of all the drama happening in the palace.
Phoebe had been an issue for me, and now, in addition to Vivienne, I felt like the palace was too hot for me to stay in.
“Did you find out anything about beta Drogo?” I asked Levi, and he shook his head. “I'm not sure how difficult his daughter stealing my heart would be, and I wouldn't give a chance for that.”
“Then, why not use Phoebe as a tool against her? If you show to her face that you still love your mate, she will step back from you. But when you keep acting like you hate your mate so much, she would see more reason not to leave your side.” Levi stated, more like an advice, and I chuckled within myself.
If I dared do that, wouldn't I fall for Phoebe?
“She's been acting like I wasn't an enemy, and I can't tell what she's up to. It can't be just jealousy….”
“It is!” Levi mentioned, and I lifted my eyelid to look at him. “She complained about it when I took him to the club last night, but I said nothing. To be honest, she did a great job last night, and I think I hate it.”
My chest tightened. I already heard that the client paid three times the normal amount because of how he was attended to. If that was the case, then how much satisfaction did she give him?
But I seriously needed her to get away from me. I wanted her to hate me so much.
“Do you mean that if I send Vivienne away, Phoebe would return to what she had always been? And if I use her as bait to kick Vivienne away, wouldn't she be hurt so much when the lady leaves, and I become the demon I had been to her? I do not want her hurt. I just want her to live her life without loving me any longer.” I muttered and quickly grabbed my seat as my vision suddenly became blurry. “I don't want to be close to her, so there should be another way to kick Vivienne out.”
Levi didn't respond until I thought I had nothing much to hear again, then he stated, “Then, what about you stop taking Vivienne’s side? Maybe you could stay on your own and not support any of them, and do not let her punish Phoebe, too. That way, she would think having you would be a hassle and decide to give up, and Phoebe wouldn't have to be hurt when you become savage again.”
It still didn't make sense. In fact, they could just go to hell, so I would mind my business.
“Just keep an eye on Drogo. There's something fishy about him and his daughter.” I declared and stood up. That was when I recalled an unfinished business. I turned again and asked Levi, “Any clue about how those assassins came into the pack? That's more important than those ladies.”
He shook his head and bowed, "I'm still looking into it. Remember how we made it vivid that we were into this the first time and lost. I do not want to act rashly but do it alone, so it will take a little time.”
I exhaled and nodded. I wasn't even sure if those assassins came for the spy or my mate, and after so much torture, they had refused to even speak, making it more difficult.
“Also, those assassins should be guided not to be murdered in the dungeon. If they don't serve a purpose now, they will in the future.” I declared and began leaving the office.
I had no particular place in mind to visit, so I thought maybe going to the basement to see how the work was going would be fine. I reached there, and a lot of tasks had been accomplished, so I thought to go back to my room and rest for the day at least, since there was nothing else to look into.
Along the hallway, I passed by Phoebe's room but halted midstep. I glanced back, sniffed so much and didn't inhale her scent, so I stepped backwards again until I reached the door. I input the passcode, and when it opened, she was truly not in the room.
Who ordered her to leave her room? Her scent wasn't along that hallway, which meant that she wasn't with Vivienne, then where could she be?
‘You didn't expect my grown-up mate to stay indoors until night, right?’ my wolf snarled in my head, and I frowned. He wasn't talking about her going to the club; then it meant that he had also come to understand that he wouldn't stop me from making her a whore. ‘Let's take a rest.’
Not yet! I have to find her.
I dashed out of the room quickly.
‘Find her for what? Did you ever want her beside you? You had told her to stay away from you, and now you want her again?’
How is that his business? Maybe she could massage me now.
As I hastened through the hallway, Vivienne came into view with two other ladies behind her. They seem to be serving her, which meant that Phoebe had exempted herself from serving her.
“Your majesty!” she fastened towards me and took my hands. “Did you come to see me? I got tired of staying at a place and thought of strolling around the palace. Want to have lunch with me?”
I hadn't even responded, and she began dragging me towards her room. Was this what polygamy was about? If Phoebe were here, what could have happened? She took me into her bedroom and locked the door, then announced to the servants outside the room, “Get us noon refreshments.”
“Yes, my lady!” I heard their chorus and their heels hitting the tiled floor as they exited.
Vivienne sat beside me and began running her fingers through my beard. For the goddess' sake, I wanted to fling her hand off, but I didn't want her muscle to sprain. “You look so weak, but I'm going to take care of you now.”
Take care of me? How was that?
I shook my head, “You don't have to go that far. I have a lot to take care of, and I only came to drop something in my bedroom before leaving. Mind having lunch alone?” I said, trying to look so mean, so she got scared and let me leave. Not like I wouldn't leave if I wanted, but I didn't want it to be like I forced her away from me, and not her leaving on her own.
She sighed and made a pitiful face, “Why not spend some time with me? We are going to be a couple soon and should get to know each other more. Don't you think so?”
I moistened my lips. Couple my feet! Who said I wanted a family?
“But if it were Phoebe, you would give her all the attention she needed. Don't tell me it's because she's your mate, because even your councils won't accept her as your luna,” she blurted, and I stared at her like she was a doll. “What? Did I talk too much?”
The problem was that I didn't even want a Luna…not even the prettiest woman on earth.
I stood up, taking my hand away from hers. Just as I wanted to announce my leave, Levi mindlinked me, his voice anxious.
