Chapter 56

Chapter 56

Hannah was completely speechless now.

Henry took Hannah away, and this ridiculous farce finally came to an end. I breathed a small sigh of relief.

The food had gone completely cold and was inedible, and I had no appetite to continue eating anyway.

As I left the cafeteria, I noticed many people still staring at me with malicious looks.

This felt really strange to me.

What had I done?

Why were they looking at me like that?

As if I were some kind of terrible villain.

Taking the elevator upstairs, the doors had just opened when I ran into Hannah again.

Standing beside her was one of the company's female supervisors.

I'd met her before—I remembered her name was Quinlan.

"Ms. Nguyen, hello."

I nodded slightly at both of them as a greeting.

Hannah showed no guilt about falsely accusing me earlier. Instead, she proudly lifted her chin.

"Wasn't it you who told me she was having something going on with Joshua and Henry?"

This was clearly directed at Quinlan.

My eyes flickered slightly as I stopped and turned back.

I saw Quinlan give an awkward laugh, her smile looking worse than crying, opening her mouth but unable to speak for a long time.

A cold smile tugged at my lips.

So that's why Hannah suddenly came after me.

It was all Quinlan's doing.

She must have seen me talking with Joshua last time and immediately ran to tip off Hannah.

What a loyal follower.

But I was curious about who Hannah's "good friend" was.

I turned around and walked back to stand in front of Hannah.

"Ms. Nguyen."

Ignoring Quinlan's ugly, stiff expression, I looked calmly at Hannah.

Hannah raised her eyebrows disdainfully, "What? You dare to do it but won't admit it? You say you're married, so you're really married? Where's your marriage certificate? Where's your husband? If you're going to lie, at least come up with a better excuse."

I didn't miss the contempt and mockery in her eyes.

I shrugged helplessly, "Sorry, but I think any normal person wouldn't bring their marriage certificate and husband with them when they leave the house. My husband has to work too."

I paused, then continued, "But you should bring your brain when you go out. Otherwise you're not only easy to manipulate, but you also look pretty stupid."

I was indeed timid and obedient in front of James, but I was generally gentle with most people.

It's just that when facing certain arrogant people, I really couldn't be gentle.

After all, they were just too brainless.

I kind of hate stupid people.

Hannah's pretty face flushed red as she glared at me viciously, "Who are you calling stupid?"

"Besides you, who else here is talking to me?"

I asked back.

"You! You're making me so angry! A bitch is always a bitch! I'm going to teach you a lesson today!"

Hannah's chest heaved with anger as her well-manicured nails clawed viciously toward my face.

My heart jumped as I quickly stepped back to create distance.

If those nails scratched me, my face would be ruined. I didn't want to invite that kind of trouble.

Hannah wasn't satisfied. Having missed once, she lunged at me again.

Quinlan was scared stiff, standing pale and frozen in place.

"Are you crazy? Making a scene at the company all day long—get out!"

Henry's angry roar rang out.

He strode over and blocked the furious Hannah.

Joshua followed close behind and quickly walked up to me.

"Are you okay?"

He looked at me, the concern in his eyes seeming genuine.

Only after confirming I wasn't hurt did he breathe a sigh of relief.

"Don't stop me! I'm going to ruin this bitch's face today! Bitch! How dare you insult me—who gave you the nerve!"

Not only did Hannah not back down, she became even more aggressive.

Joshua's face suddenly darkened, "Henry! Control your fiancée!"

Henry's expression also turned ugly.

He warned Hannah, "Shut up. Do you want the Nguyen family's business to go under?"

Hannah paused, but she wasn't the type to be intimidated. Her words became even nastier.

She snorted coldly, "Just a bastard child, and you think you can show off in front of me? If it weren't for you, would James have been kicked out of the Smith family? Shameless!"

"Shut up!"

Henry's heart jumped as his voice shot up, "Are you crazy?"

Hannah was stunned by the yelling.

She stood there in a daze, staring blankly at Henry.

Seeing her like this, the irritation and impatience on Henry's face became even more obvious.

"Go back now. I'll have my dad cancel our engagement too."

"Henry, do you know what you're saying?"

Hannah snapped back to her senses, burning with rage.

I had no interest in watching this drama and turned back to my desk.

None of this had anything to do with me anyway. Suffering through this disaster at lunch was already unlucky enough for me.

I don't know how they resolved the rest.

I only knew that when I got off work, people at the company were looking at me differently again.

How interesting.

I glanced lightly at Quinlan.

She guiltily looked away and quickly left.

The next day, Quinlan was fired.

I overheard colleagues gossiping about Quinlan.

Apparently Henry had really chewed her out, then told her to get lost.

As for those who had mocked and coldly stared at me yesterday, they all became very cautious when dealing with me.

Thinking about what happened yesterday, I understood why they had changed so much.

Sure enough, rumors can't be trusted.

Meanwhile, at Smith Corporation.

James sat in the high seat of the conference room with a dark expression, coldly scanning the executives below.

His voice was frighteningly cold, "The company's bid was leaked. What happened?"

Everyone looked at each other, some confused, some afraid.

Who would have the guts to leak the bid?

"Mr. Smith."

Jesse pushed the door open at that moment, his expression not good.

He bent down and whispered a few words in James's ear, "We've found out. The bid was leaked three days ago."

James's expression changed, "Meeting adjourned."

Back in his office, James instructed Jesse through gritted teeth, "Redo the bid, revise the proposal. I'm going home."

He left without looking back.

Driving home, he kept thinking.

The bid was leaked three days ago.

At that time, only he knew about it.

Who could have gotten the bid and leaked it?

The only answer was obvious.

James's eyes reddened, a rare fear rising in his heart, praying it wasn't me.

When James got home, he rushed straight to the study and carefully checked every corner, but found nothing.

He breathed a sigh of relief.

It probably wasn't me.

Maybe it was a rumor Joshua deliberately spread to drive a wedge between him and me.

The more James thought about it, the more likely it seemed. After all, no matter how stupid I was, I wouldn't leak the bid.

I was completely unaware of this, having spent the whole day at PhillipsStar Group reviewing documents.

I added some of my own ideas and adjusted the bid according to the latest market conditions before placing the completed documents on Henry's desk.

But what I didn't expect was that instead of Henry, I got Joshua.
