CHAPTER 65 - All of Them
IVORY’S POV
It has been quiet for a while now. I don’t have anyone coming after me. I have just been going to work with my bodyguards, visiting the café sometimes, and then heading back home. The election is set to take place in a week, and following Luca’s suggestion, I resort to Zoom meetings with the shareholders I was supposed to visit in person. I don’t regret it, as most of them express interest in voting for me.
Luca has apparently succumbed to his father’s threats and has refused to visit me ever since that day. He doesn’t even call me, and I am not going to call him either. I don’t want to seem desperate. Still, I miss him.
“Are you set?” Victor’s voice comes from the other side of the door.
“A moment,” I reply, walking to the tall mirror in my room to check my appearance. After making sure that I look presentable, I trudge to the door and open it.
Victor and Baron stand in front of my room, waiting for me.
“I’m ready,” I breathe, smiling at them.
Baron drives while Victor and I sit in the back seat. Throughout the entire ride to the company, Baron keeps complaining about Victor sitting in the backseat, making him look like our driver. They bicker back and forth, and I smile all the while. These two have been my source of entertainment ever since Luca left me.
When I get to my office, I immerse myself in work, hoping to forget all that weighs on me. I miss both of them so much—Bryant and Luca. I’m angry at Bryant for not even attempting to check in on me and equally mad at Luca for leaving me. I know he left because of his father’s threats and because I pushed him away. Still, I’m frustrated with him. I don’t know how or why I started having feelings for him; I just wish I never did. How is it even humanly possible to have feelings for two people at the same time? Because I also like Bryant. So much. Damn, I am the most confused person ever.
I don’t know how much time passes before I hear a knock on the door. Baron and Victor, who are chilling in the coffee area, become alert, standing up and fixing their gazes on the door.
“Who is it?” I ask.
“Mr. Charles,” he replies.
“Come in.”
The door pushes open, and he slips inside.
“Good day, Ms. Ivory,” he greets as he ventures into the room.
“How are you doing today?” I ask.
He takes a seat opposite me. “I’m fine. There’s something I need to tell you.”
I raise a brow, curiosity flaring in my eyes. “And that is?”
“The investors,” he mentions, and my heart drops to my stomach.
“And what about them?”
“They want to have a meeting with you regarding the funds your father owed them.”
Fear creeps up my spine. Is this a ploy to finally get to me and murder me? “Which of them?”
“All of them.”
I scoff. “After killing him, they still want his money? Although the specific person who killed him is dead, he was still one of them.”
His eyes narrow as he stares at me. “Who?”
“Ethan Sawyer. He killed my father,” I blurt, recalling Harrison Green’s confession.
“And where did you get that information?”
“A trusted source,” I simply say, unable to reveal the source’s name. If I tell him that I had that conversation with Harrison Green, he would definitely suspect me of killing him. I have to protect myself from that suspicion.
He shakes his head. “Sometimes not all information is true.”
I raise my brow. “Is there something you know?”
He quickly shakes his head. “Nothing. Just get ready for the meeting.”
I can tell he’s hiding something, but I let it pass. “When do they want the meeting?”
“10 AM tomorrow.”
I nod and think for a few seconds before speaking again. “I’ll need a lawyer.”
“I thought so too, so I contacted Luca to get ready for tomorrow.”
“What?!” I exclaim, my eyes widening, but I quickly regain my composure. “Oh, sure.”
I can already imagine how awkward tomorrow will be.
He raises an eyebrow. “Why do you seem so shocked? He has always been your lawyer, and besides, he’s the best person for this.”
Forcing a smile on my face, I reply, “I know.”
After Mr. Charles leaves, I can’t stop thinking about Luca and how everything will turn out tomorrow—with him and also with the investors. I have second thoughts about meeting the investors because it will feel like a puppy walking into a lion’s den. But then, it would also look bad. If I refuse to meet them, it would only fuel their anger.
I groan into my hands, frustrated and unsure of what to do.
My phone suddenly starts ringing, and Luca’s name flashes on the screen. My heart begins to race as I pick it up.
“Ivory,” he says from the other end of the line, his deep masculine voice sending shivers down my spine. All I can think about is jumping into his arms and begging him to take me in every way possible.
“Miss me already?” I ask, immediately regretting it. Why did I just say that? He’s obviously calling because of the meeting and not because he misses me. I’m so stupid.
“I’m outside your office,” his next words surprise me, and my heart beats out of control.
