Chapter 179 An Alternative

Chapter 179 An Alternative
Maureen's POV

I could see that the golden wolf soldiers were restless as the fake golden wolf and I faced each other with eyes blazing.

'I usually do not like killing females, but you are giving me no other option,' the fake golden wolf said, making me roll my eyes. His continuous talking was making me feel as if he was stalling.

'And why don't you like killing females, weakling?' I asked frowning deeply.

'Females are nothing but weak, feeble things,' he said chuckling alone.

'Now I know why they decided to pick you and experiment on you. Your arrogance must have triggered their conclusion. Nitwit,' I hissed loudly.

'How dare you call me a nitwit?' He screamed in anger and before I could decipher what he wanted to do, he sent a ball of fire out of his hands straight at me. The fire got to me and engulfed me.

I heard Lance shout my name in agony as the golden wolf soldiers growled out loud. I felt no pain so I knew the fire had nothing on me. The fire surrounded me and even danced on my skin as if it was trying to play with it. At a point, it seemed there was fire coming out of my skin to make the one outside grow bigger.

I reached into the mind link because I knew I had to calm Lance down. I didn't want him coming anywhere near the fire.

'I am fine Lance. The fire only engulfed me. It is not burning any part of me,' I said softly and I heard him sigh in relief.

'Now that your golden wolf is gone, why don't you all bow to me and repent, I am willing to forgive you,' the new president said to the megaphone.

'Does she look gone to you? You are actually a fool indeed,' Lance shouted back at him.

An idea occurred to me so I tried to adjust my sight in the fire so I could see through it. I started walking towards the fake golden wolf and silence fell on the entire field. Even the birds were quiet.

The fake golden wolf stood there while I approached him with a smile on his face. He frowned a little when I got closer. His frown turned to horror as I got closer. When he saw that the heat from the fire he had started was getting too much, he moved back, but at that moment, I grabbed him and pulled him into the fire.

I bound my hands around him and held him tight to me. His scream of horror and pain shook the area as the fire licked at him.

'You started a fire; you shouldn't run away from the warmth,' I said, making sure I wasn't letting go of him.

He started struggling against me but I was more powerful. When I was sure that even if I left him, he would not survive the burn, I let go, and he fell backward with the fire still burning all over his body. He was screaming and shouting but the fire wouldn't stop burning. The more he burned, the less the fire surrounding me went, and gradually, the fire surrounding me went out, but the fake golden wolf was still burning.

All through our altercation, the fake soldiers stood there without saying anything or lifting a finger to help their commandant.

'Attack!' Mathias shouted from the horseback for the fake soldiers to attack us. They immediately attacked but their attack only lasted a minute before it started raining heavily.

In a minute the field was rid of their fake soldiers. The new president and Mathias saw what was happening and decided to flee, but their horses tripped, making them roll into the muddy water on the ground.

Golden wolf soldiers were on them in the blink of an eye. The soldiers took hold of them and brought them to their knees in front of me.

'This doesn't mean that you have won. Let us see how you will enter the Council,' Mathias said with hatred and anger dripping off him.

'You are a very foolish person, Mathias, or whatever you are called. If we conquered you here, what makes you think we can't do the same at the Council?' I asked and he bowed his head in shame.

'Take them away. I want them kept in the darkest place in the dungeon until they are executed. They will be charged with their atrocities and felony,' I said to the soldiers holding them down.

A few of the High Moon soldiers went with the two golden wolf soldiers to keep Matthias and the imposed president in the dungeon.

'I was so scared when the fire got bigger. I tried to stop my heart from palpating so hard so that the fire could stop, but it wouldn't,' Torrent said, approaching me carefully with tears in her eyes.

'What do you mean?' I asked her frowning.

'When my heart palpates that hard, any fire around me grows bigger,' Torrent explained.

'Fire too? I thought your mum said it rains harder when you cry. She didn't mention fire as well,' Asher said, looking as surprised as every one of us, but obviously, he knew more about her than the rest of us.

'I kept that from my parents. They were already scared that I had influenced rain with my tears. I didn't want them to see more reasons to hide me from everyone,' Torrent explained.

'You mean if it is raining and you are crying, it makes the rain heavier, and when your heart beats fast, it affects fire?' I asked raising a brow.

'Yes,' Torrent answered and I couldn't help but laugh. Everyone exchanged glances at the fact that I found what she said funny.

'I now believe that you are indeed Rocha's mate. Welcome to the team Torrent,' I said after I sobered up.

Everyone then understood why I had laughed. Rocha should not have a mate with no special ability since his mate was to complete him.

'You can go to Ian now Maureen. We will take care of things here,' the Alpha said and I nodded in understanding.

'Please I want his body burned and the ashes mixed with water and thrown out. We can't be sure what he is really made of,' I said, pointing at the half-burned body of the fake golden wolf.

'We will do as you have instructed,' the Alpha said then turned away from me to do as I have said.

I pointed at some golden wolf soldiers to come with me. I then faced Lance to ask if he was coming along and he nodded in the affirmative.

We ran all the way to the pack hospital in the half-wolf form. By the time we got to the hospital, we were all sweaty.

I wasn't even sure if I would be allowed into Ian's hospital room looking like a hobo. My shirt and trousers looked very dirty, even the trainers and my feet were filled with mud and rain.

We found Lucia and Dawn at the hospital reception. They ran to me and Lance once they saw us. The golden wolf soldiers were standing guard outside.

'Does this mean the battle is over?' Dawn asked as she embraced me not minding my dirty and wet state.

'Not quite. I think the rest of the battle will be at the council. How is Ian?' I asked as Lucia too ignored my state and hugged me tight. Their faces fell when I mentioned Ian.

'He is not doing so well,' Lucia answered sadly.

'Can I see him now?' I asked agitated.

'You should be able to. Let's tell he doctor that you are here,'Dawn answered slowly looking at me from head to toe.

We stopped at the doctor's office first. The doctor went on his knees immediately when he saw me enter his office and didn't stand up until I asked him to. The doctor insisted I wash my hands before I go in to see Ian. Lance and I quickly did that, and I removed my wet trainer's shoes and walked barefoot to Ian's hospital room. I was surprised to see him awake looking at the ceiling.

'He is awake?' I asked the doctor in surprise.

'Whatever kept him awake and is still keeping him awake is what is keeping him alive,' the doctor said then excused us.

'I asked him not to sleep. I didn't know that it would work. I was only talking to him when he wanted to close his eyes on us,' Lucia explained.

'Ian, ' I called his name with worry. He tried to smile but failed miserably as he winced instead.

'Go to sleep Ian, Maureen is here now. You will be fine' L,ucia said an,d Ian fell asleep instantly.

I placed a hand on his head, another on his wound, and closed my eyes, allowing the healing energy to go out of me into him. For the first time while healing people, I was so consumed by it that I let Ian's smiling face flash in my mind.

When I opened my eyes, his head was turned the other way an,d he looked visibly relaxed bu,t when I lifted my hand from his wound, it wasn't healed.

'What is going on?' I asked feeling sick to my stomach. I stumbled but Lance quickly caught me before I could fall.

'That knife was forged from a powerful ancient magic. It is powerful enough to kill you. What do you expect it to do to an ordinary wolf?' Grandma Gina said from the doorway.

'You are here?' I asked surprised she was at the hospital.

'I forgot to tell you that the Luna insisted that she wanted to come so Grandma Gina came instead,' Dawn explained.

'Will he ever get healed?' I asked Grandma Gina with my heart in turmoil.

'You have given him some antidote by trying to heal him. He is no longer in severe pain. It is left to his wolf to let him heal from the inside that is if the knife hasn't affected his wolf yet. We might as well get an alternative,' Grandma Gina said looking thoughtful as she walked in properly into the room.

'What Alternative?' I asked

'The blood of his mate,' Grandma Gina said.

'Blood of his mate?' We all asked together.

'But Ian doesn't have a mate,' Dawn said.

'Says who? His mate must be somewhere around. They will find each other,' Grandma Gina said confidently.

'How is that supposed to happen if he is confined to a bed?' Lance asked.

'The universe has a way of turning up when we least expect. I guess we will have to wait and see what Ian's fate would be,' Grandma Gina said.

What Ian's fate should be? I have tried my best and we had no other option than to wait and see. But Ian didn't deserve what he was going through!
