Chapter 95 Attacked

Chapter 95 Attacked
The fixing of Heaven’s hospital was still ongoing.

New, state-of-the-art equipment arrived every day far beyond what her pocket could afford. Heaven stood in the middle of it all, arms folded, brows drawn tight in disbelief.

“Fabian… isn’t this too much?” she asked quietly. “This costs a fortune. I can’t accept all this for free.”

“And who said it’s for free?” Fabian cut in, hands in pocket.

“Huh?” she asked, unsure, her gaze locked on him.

He took slow strides toward her, tall and imposing, his blue eyes dragging over her face in a way that made her heart thud uncomfortably in her chest.

For a moment, this felt like the moment like he was about to finally say what lingered between them.

But instead–

“I’m investing,” he blurted out, cursing himself in his mind. “I just got back, and I need something that can generate money for me. Somewhere stable. I’m too tired to work.”

Heaven went quiet, thinking.

“So… you’re saying you’re my employer?” she asked carefully.

“Yes,” Fabian replied. “You’ll also be the manager. You run the hospital, make the decisions, oversee everything. I will fund it and help it grow, we share profits”

That, Heaven could accept.

She didn’t want to live off him.

“Okay,” she said after a moment. “But we’ll need a lawyer. I’ll find one and reach out so everything is properly documented.”

Fabian’s jaw tightened. That wasn’t what he had hoped for.

He had said it on impulse just to stop her from rejecting the help outright. Now she was drawing lines. As she turned to leave, he caught her wrist.

“Do you really hate taking help from me?” he asked, his voice low, controlled but strained.

Heaven stilled.

She didn’t know how to explain it, only that the need was deep and instinctive.

“It’s not about you,” she said softly. “It’s me. I need to stand on my own. For myself and my son.”

She smiled gently. “The investment alone is already more than enough.”

Fabian released her hand. “It’s late,” Heaven added. “I should head home.”

“I’ll take you,” he offered immediately.

“No,” she said quickly, checking the time. “The bus station is five minutes away. I could use the exercise.”

He didn’t push. He already knew she would refuse.

“Keep your phone on,” he said instead. “I’ll call you.”

She nodded.

And just like that, she walked away.

Fabian watched her go, a frown settling on his face still wondering why she held herself so tightly apart from everyone who wanted to help her

\~~~~~~~~~

Her phone slipped from her hand and hit the ground, initiating an emergency.

Her scream died in her throat as she was yanked backward, dragged violently by her hair into the darkest part of the alleyway.

“Who the fuck are you? Let me go!” she screamed, holding onto his hand and pulling at her hair.

Silence.

Panic flooded her intestines. Had they found her? The ones chasing her from her last memories?

She saw a broken bottle, she picked it up in the disarray and stabbed his arm. The man hissed and  let go of her.

“Fuck!! Crazy motherfucking bitch.”

Heaven used the opportunity to bolt.

Her panic attack kicked in. Her head ached violently, as if memories she had locked away were about to split her skull open. She saw water. She heard footsteps. She slowed, breathing hard.

The hooded man caught up to her. He grabbed her and slapped her across the face, snapping her out of her panic attack.

“I won’t be lenient like I was with the other girls with you. I will cut off those hands after I am done taking you in every way.”

He pulled her up and dragged his sleazy tongue across her face.

“That’s if I let you do that,” Heaven shot back.

She had packed a handful of sand and poured it straight into his eyes.

“Fuck!!!” the man hissed, covering his face.

Heaven ran again this time faster.

She dashed through the alleyway, kicked a stick, and fell, scraping her knee. She grimaced. The man’s footsteps closed in behind her. She tried to get up, but the pain was too much.

Soon, the man caught up.

She clutched a wooden stick. She had a son. And he had only her. She was going to fight her way through this psycho.

“Ahh shiiiii… feisty. I love feisty girls. They’re sweet. I love chasing it thrills me.” The hooded man bent his neck to the side.

Heaven took tiny steps backward until she hit a wall. “Don’t you dare come closer, or I will kill you,” she warned, her voice shaky. Blood trickled from her knees.

“I’m scared,” the hooded man mocked, acting frightened.

He laughed dark and twisted before lunging at her.

Heaven swung the wood. He dodged it. She raised it again, but he caught her wrist. She was no match for a psycho towering over her.

“I’ll just take you here and kill you, stubborn brat. You asked for it else why would you be outside by this time?”

He pressed his body against hers on the wall.

“Get off me!” she fought him with everything she had.

Pain slammed into her head again. Déjà vu, like a memory, was trying to break free.

Suddenly the man was picked off her and thrown away.

“How dare you touch her!!!” a voice roared.

“You dare touch what’s mine!”

Maverick punched the hooded man over and over again.

He saw red.

The man groaned. Blood covered his face. He was barely conscious.

“Stop!” Heaven shouted, she didn’t want him to turn a murderer because of her.

Maverick’s fist froze mid-air.

“Let’s call the police.”

Maverick jaws tightened. He struggled with his beast to listen because everything in him wanted to end the man.

He moved to where she was, her knee bloodied.

He picked her up like it was the most natural thing to do. Heaven hand flew to his neck. Her heart skipped multiple beats.

She peeked up and looked at his angry face.

“Thank you I can walk..you don’t have to carry me..” Maverick looked at her hazel eyes. “Stay still” was all he said and she obeyed instinctively.

They moved in silence until Heaven's house was in plain sight but he turned toward the house opposite hers.

“That’s not my place. It’s that way,” she said, pointing.

“This is my place,” Maverick replied, still holding her firmly.

Shock hit her that he stayed here and why was he taking her to his place?

“I’ll just go home. No need to worry…”

“Liam wouldn’t want to see his mother covered in blood, would he?” he said, eyes locked on hers.

She hadn’t thought about that. Her shoulders relaxed in silent agreement.

Inside, Maverick placed her on the kitchen counter.

She sat awkwardly, fingers clutching her lap.He retrieved a first-aid kit and returned.

“How’s your …health?” she stammered. “Your… beating heart?” she asked, referring to his hospital visit.

“You should worry about yourself instead of playing doctor,” he replied flatly.

“Why are you angry?”

“Why were you walking a lonely road at this time of night?”

She pouted wondering why he was over reacting

“I wanted to get home faster. My son was alone.”

He said nothing, guilt gnawing at his chest.

Maverick lifted her gown slowly, exposing her scraped knees, and dabbed them with cotton wool.

She hissed and moved her leg.

He took another cotton wool, this time he steadied her leg by gripping her inner thigh firmly.

Heaven gasped. Heat rushed through her body.

She looked at him. He looked quite different from the last time he had shaved, gotten a hair cut, there was no stubble. He looked handsome.

Maverick noticed her gawking when he looked up and she looked away, anywhere but him.

He used his thumb to bring her face back Heaven could feel the pool down her thighs. Maverick knew this effect.

“Is there something on my face.” His thumb rubbed her lap as if soothing her. She shivered. She shook her head.

His face was inches away from hers. “Then why are you staring.”

She didn’t know why. Maverick brought his face closer she didn’t pull back. She wanted it.

Then a phone rang it was hers she snapped out of it. She jumped down the counter, the pain shot through her leg but she ignored it creating a safe distance between them.

Maverick jaws tightened who was that person that called at this time

She glanced at the screen and it was Fabian calling.

“I should go. My son will be waiting for me.”

She limped out of Maverick’s apartment

And Fabian, seeing her, rushed forward and threw a punch straight at Maverick’s face
