Chapter 83 Completely rejected
But instead of concern, her expression hardened.
“What are you doing here, Heaven?” she asked flatly.
“My mother-in-law sent me out,” Heaven said in a small, fragile voice. “Mother… please. I’m cold.”
Meredith’s jaw tightened.
“There’s no place for you here, Heaven,” she said, her tone ruthless. “I can’t let you in.”
Heaven froze. Shocked. Confused. Hurt.
“But why?…Mother… please. I have nowhere else to go,” Heaven begged, her voice cracking. “Call Father…just let me inside until he comes.”
Meredith didn’t move an inch, from the door.
“You should have thought about that before offending the Richards,” she snapped. “We cannot take you back here. We can’t risk being on their bad side.”
Heaven blinked as the words hit her like physical blows. Meredith continued, unrelenting:
“Summer is about to make her first debut. You will not ruin your sister’s future because of your carelessness.”
Heaven felt something inside her sink… break… shatter.
Today alone, she had been denied by the father of her child… humiliated… thrown out… insulted… threatened.
And now her own mother, her own family. The same family she sacrificed herself for. The ones who pushed her into the Richard household…were rejecting her too.
The cold tightened around her chest. Her vision blurred. She swayed on unsteady feet.
How many heartbreaks could one person endure in a single night?
How many more before she collapsed completely?
Silent tears slipped down Heaven’s cheeks as she stared at her mother standing strong and unrelenting on the door.
“Mother… please let me come inside,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “Tomorrow I’ll leave, I promise. It’s late… please.”
She reached out just to touch her mother’s hand, to feel anything familiar but Meredith stepped back sharply, as though Heaven’s touch was poison.
“No,” Meredith snapped. “When you were living with the Richards, didn’t you save any money? Or were you just eating their food and enjoying their wealth without thinking?”
Heaven blinked, stunned.
“Mother… please. I’m pregnant…” her voice broke painfully. “Please… just let me in.”
Meredith froze at first shock flickering through her eyes but she masked it fast.
“Oh, I see,” she hissed. “You were sleeping around. Was that why they threw you out? You always pretend to be innocent when you’re loose” She said with a disgusted scoff.
The words hit Heaven like knives.
“Please leave,” Meredith said coldly. “I won’t offend the Richards.”
And she shut the door in Heaven’s face.Hard.
“Mother… Father…” Heaven whispered, knocking weakly. “Please.”
No answer.
Her hand slid down the door, hopeless. She pressed her palm to her belly. The rain began cold, heavy drops falling one by one.
She kept knocking, begging until her fists were too weak to lift. But no one came. Not her mother. Not her father. Not even Summer.
Finally, she backed away from the house. The rain soaked through her clothes as she walked down the street slowly, aimless, shivering so hard her teeth chattered.
She whispered to her belly through her tears:
“I’m sorry… I’m sorry you have to suffer because I’m suffering,” her voice cracked. “I’m sorry your daddy doesn’t want us… I’m sorry…”
A soft grumble from her stomach answered.
She was starving. Freezing. Alone. Rejected by everyone she loved. But worst of all… she still waited.Still hoped Maverick would come for her.
Even after he denied her.Her chest ached. The streets were empty. Dark.Cold.
“Hey pretty girl,” a ragged voice called behind her. “Where are you going at this hour?”
Heaven’s heart lurched. She quickened her steps.
“It’s late,” another voice added. “No cabs will stop for you. My house is close come, I’ll keep you warm.”
The footsteps grew louder. Faster.
Heaven’s pulse spiked. She clutched her stomach and began to run.
“I don’t bite,” one shouted. “Come here!”
They started chasing her intensely multiple feet splashing through puddles.
Heaven bolted, her breath ragged, her legs burning. Panic fueled her.
Why were they chasing her?
Her torn shoe slipped on the wet pavement. Her toe scraped. But she pushed forward. Finally, the footsteps behind her disappeared.
She gasped in relief, hands shaking, chest heaving.
A pair of headlights appeared ahead. A car. She flagged it down desperately. “Please..please take me to…”
The door opened.
Inside sat a group of rough-looking men, eyes gleaming with something vile. Danger crept up her spine. Heaven turned and ran.
“Get her!” someone shouted.
They chased her again, splashing through the rain. She sprinted, heart exploding in terror. The first group the ones from earlier appeared up ahead, scanning the street for her.
Two sets of people. Why? What did they want from her? Fear choked her.
She veered left, stumbling into a narrow alley. She crouched behind a metal trash bin, hand clamped over her mouth trying to stifle her breath, her whole body trembling.
Her breath was shallow and rapid. The rain pounded on metal.Heavy boots splashed nearby.
“Where did she go?”
“Find her!”
A hand suddenly clamped over her mouth from behind.
“Got you, bitch”
Heaven didn’t think she bit down hard.
The man screamed. She tore free and ran. She ran harder than she ever had. Her lungs burned. Her vision blurred. Her stomach cramped violently. But the footsteps thundered behind her.
The chase continued in ghe alleyway with the rain and darkeness, Heaven stumbled into the road..
A headlight cut through the storm, a horn blared A blinding flash of light.
Then
A sickening BOOM echoed across the street as the impact lifted her body from the ground.
She hit the pavement hard.
Blood pooled quickly, mixing with the rainwater, spiraling outward like a red river.
Her eyes fluttered weakly.
Darkness pulled her under
