Chapter 113 The call
Maverick froze. Fuck, he hissed in his mind. Was the earth against him today? He turned slowly and saw Collins, his arch enemy.
Heaven turned toward the man who had called out his name with a Captain. Her brows squinted. He told her he was into tech and crypto. Why was there a Captain in his name?
Collins was shocked, but he barely let it show. Of course, he knew who the lady was to Maverick, his sister-in-law.
Even though she wasn’t known to the public’s eyes, he was at his brother’s funeral eight years ago.
So why were they here at the dock, holding each other like that on a jet ski bike?
Maverick maintained his steeze even though inside he was boiling.
“Captain, you don’t drop by at the gym anymore. Why?” he suddenly asked, changing the atmosphere. Maverick was the most shocked, but he played along.
“I have been quite busy…”
“You should drop by more often. We would need more coaching,” he said and turned to Heaven. “And who is this gorgeous lady here?” He extended his hand.
“Hi, I’m Vera.” She smiled, taking his hand.
“I’m Collins, and I and your man are very, very, very good friends.”
Collins’s hand held onto hers for extra seconds. Maverick took her hand back.
Soon a male walked up to Collins’s side. “Well, if you would excuse me, Captain, I have a date with my man. I do hope to see you at the ring tomorrow…” He smiled a smile that didn't reach his eyes. His words held an underlying meaning.
Maverick didn’t know he had been holding his breath, but he let it out after Collins left.

“Who is that handsome demigod that has been sitting over there?” Samantha’s colleague asked her while pretending to be cleaning an already wiped table.
“Why are you asking me? Go ask him.”
“He has been here at the café all morning since you arrived, stripping you naked with his eyes and fucking you over and over in his head. That man has had at least ten coffees,"
“Nora, please.” Samantha felt heat rise in her cheeks. She cleared her throat. “Maybe he just really likes the café’s coffee.”
Samantha wondered why Rayan would even come here. He should just leave her alone. How did he know she even worked here?
“So you’re saying you don’t know him?” Nora arched a brow, glancing between the man with tattooed forearms and curly hair and Samantha with her hazel eyes and warm brown hair. They were a perfect match, and the way he stared at her screamed history something deeper than just sex.
She could feel Rayan’s gaze burning into her. Why was he doing this?
“I guess I’ll have to go get his number myself, because that man is goddamn fine,” Nora drawled. “Look at those corded arms. Those taut shoulders. My arm would fit perfectly around them…”
Samantha suddenly dropped a cup, the crash louder than intended. It startled Nora. She hadn’t meant to react, but she hated hearing Nora talk about him like that.
“He has a habit of disappearing,” Samantha muttered. “So be careful what you wish for. He might vanish before you even get his number.”
She turned and walked into the staff room.
Nora followed her in. “I thought you said you didn’t know him.”
“I used to,” Samantha admitted, rolling the ring on her finger that felt more like a handcuff than a promise. “Now I don’t.”
“The man out there looks like he could help you, Sam,” Nora said softly, concern lacing her voice.
“I don’t need his help. I have everything under control.”
Nora’s eyes suddenly sparkled. “Well, I do need your help with something else…”
Rayan watched Samantha like she would disappear the next minute. He had left the house in the early hours of the morning. Last night, he had one of the boys trail her up to this morning since he had to babysit Liam. Fuck, he missed her.
He hadn’t meant to leave her, but with the crisis the Johnsons had with Rodrigo, he had to stay away from her to not involve her. He thought the matter was going to be resolved, but it wasn’t, and they had to leave Ivory City. He understood her anger, but her getting married he refused to accept it.
Why was she working multiple jobs?
His eyes remained on the room that read Staff Only. She had gone in with her colleague, but only the colleague came out. Samantha didn’t. He waited for a few seconds, then he realized.
He got up, his teeth clenched. He forgot his woman was a sneaky brat she had slipped through him.
He moved to her friend at the counter.
Nora panicked, blushed all in one. Rayan understood she was charmed by him, so he placed his arms on the counter and asked her sexily,
“Where is she?”
Nora almost fainted. “Her shift is over, so she left…” she replied, entrapped.
Rayan reached for a strand of her hair and tucked it behind her ear. Her cheeks flushed.
“Can you tell me where I can find her?”
Nora nodded, forgetting she wasn’t supposed to tell him anything.

Maverick drove Heaven back home. She was shocked to see a car parked in front of her house. It was a Mercedes Benz E-Class L, in a white color. She wondered if she had a visitor, but there was no one at home.
She got out; Maverick did too.
She was about to thank him when he extended a hand with a key in it and gestured at the car.
“Take it.”
“W-what?” she stammered.
“I said take it. It’s yours.”
“I can’t take it, Maverick. It’s too early, and it’s just much…”
“What’s too early? We almost fucked ourselves to death, and you already agreed to be mine. Are you saying I should watch you trek and jump buses when I can buy any car in this world for you?” He pulled her into his arms and squeezed one of her butt cheeks.
She blushed at how easily he said vulgar things and touched her openly.
“Just take it and go pick Liam up from school. You don’t want to keep him waiting… Besides, I don’t think your legs are strong enough to—”
“F-fine, I will take it… just to pick Liam up,” she giggled as he kissed her neck. She moaned.
His phone rang in his pocket. He ignored it and continued teasing her.
The phone pinged nonstop. Then the call came again.
“You should take it,” she told him, breathless. “It might be important.”
He pressed his forehead to hers. “Should we go inside?” he whispered.
“No… no…” She was tired. Her whole body hurt.
He chuckled, brought his phone out of his pocket his face fell.
