Chapter 47 Just kiss me
There was a time that I felt bad that there were large stretches of time between children, but Ocio reminded me it gave Mal time to take care of herself before spending another twenty some odd years pouring herself into the next one. That she could give each child her undivided attention and support.
“I could have done better by him.”
I kissed the top of her head. I didn’t tell her I was certain she was the best mom she could be. Because doing her best in the shitty situation I put her in couldn’t compare to her best with me by her side supporting her along the way. Where she didn’t have the hysterics his entire life and she had someone to help carry the load.
Telling her I knew she fought for him with every ounce of strength she had would just piss her off and start an argument about how it was my failure that ruined everything. There was no point in that discussion. We both knew that.
What could I say that wouldn’t end in a fight? Or with her turning her frustration around on me? Fuck it. She deserved to hear it. Consequences be damned.
“You did an amazing job.”
“Fuck you, Kam.” But her voice was tired and held no fire. She didn’t pull away or fight me.
At least I did one thing right.
A
nother day, another dose. I moved through the weeks, ignoring Kam’s existence. I walked down the pathway, still humming over Kaylen’s
new daughter, Mara. The melody of the sea belted out of my lips, but I kept the words locked up so I wouldn’t accidentally lure anyone to me.
“Your voice is so beautiful.” Phio smiled, where he sat shirtless on a bench covered in mud, but that handsome smile still managed to shine through. His blonde hair was pulled back in a low bun that somehow hadn’t escaped whatever mess he’d gotten into. “How is the grandbaby?”
“She’s perfect,” I sang, making his pupils blow. I cleared my throat. “I’m sorry.”
His chuckle was deep and sultry, making me clench, reminding me how painfully empty I was. “It doesn’t matter. You already had my cock hard, anyway.”
“It shouldn’t be. Kam’s scent is all over me.” I glared at the mark with resentment. It was healing, despite everything.
“I could take care of that for you.” He adjusted his legs so I could see the thick, hard cock pressing against his sweatpants. Teasing me with the silhouette of what I wanted. I had a hunch that it would be a challenge to conquer. “Just ask, Mal.”
“Sorry, my guppy wants to know his daddy.” They’d been spending time together every day, and I couldn’t be anything but happy about that.
“You’re an amazing mother,” he told me. The kindness in his eyes shredded me.
I held the tears back. He knew what I’d done. That I attacked Kaylen. “I could have been better.” If it wasn’t for Phio protecting him that day, I didn’t know if my guppy would be okay.
“You are an amazing mother.” A gentle growl rumbled in his chest, trying to settle the chaos he could sense inside me. “That wasn’t your fault. That wasn’t you.”
He stood up and stalked over to me. His hulking height cast his shadow over me. With slow intention, he caressed my cheek. I prepared for the subsequent burning his touch would bring, but it never came.
I tilted my chin down just to verify that was his rough skin on mine.
When I looked up at him, he was equally bemused.
“What is that? It should be worse now, not better,” I whispered, unsure of what that was. His pretty brown eyes went deep in thought as he considered the possibilities of how that could happen. His lips smashed over mine, and desire poured over me like silk water. The growl rumbling in his chest made me want to rip my clothes off. He lifted my chin and let me breathe as his nose traveled the column of my throat.
“You smell like the ocean and fury,” he groaned. His nose traveled down my shoulder and focused on Kam’s mark. “Something is off.”
“It is strange.”
“I’ll talk to some of the other ancients and see if anyone has experienced this.” His finger tapped Kam’s mark. “I suspect this has something to do with it. You don’t see shattered bonds every day.”
“Before the magic wears off,” I sang, intentionally luring him in, and motioned with one finger for him to come closer. He growled and grinned at the same time. “One last time. So I can remember how you taste.”
He hummed and dominated my mouth for one more moment. “But it won’t be the last time.”
“Kam will come for you.”
“I doubt that.” He backed away with a smile still stamped on his face. “When the hysterics take over, come find me. I want to try an experiment.”
If it included that monstrosity of a dick I saw threatening me in his sweats, I would be a fool to resist. “Tempting.”
“Says the siren.”
