Chapter 38 Charlie´s confession
Chapter 38 Charlie´s confession
’d seen a lot of sweet-tempered women turn into stark raving lunatics, but what happened when you took a woman whose sanity was already
questionable and pushed her boundaries more? This psycho bitch.
Her claws pierced my shoulders as my knees hit the ground. The hysterics gave a woman a stupid amount of strength. “I suggest you start getting it up.”
Fuck, was I hard, but that didn’t mean I’d let her dominate me. I wanted to string my game out until her mark healed more, but I would clearly need stronger shackles.
She tried to put me in a headlock, and I clamped my teeth into her arm. She orgasmed instantly, and that gave me the chance to throw her over my shoulder to regain control. Her head landed between my knees and her back hit the ground with a thud. I shoved one of my cocks in her mouth and prayed to Ocio that Maleene didn’t decide that today was her day to start biting. She opened her throat to let me get deeper. My beautiful slut.
I thrust in and out of her mouth, and the scent of her desire filled the room. I slammed into the back of her throat, making her gag. “Are you going to behave now?”
Her eyes narrowed on me, and she grabbed my ass, pulling me deeper into her mouth. The saliva dripping from the seal she put on her lips was tantalizing. Her cheeks turned red, but she refused to back down. If she
passed out on me because of her stubbornness, it would be easier to get her back in bed.
Wait.
Speckles of bright red covered her. A thick strip of skin was missing where she’d ripped that IV out in the process of attacking me, and blood was everywhere. “You dumb—” I pulled out of her mouth and clamped my hand over where blood gushed from her arm.
Sometimes I wished she was a beast so I could snarl until she complied with me, but despite her ability to shift, she was an anthropoid, unaffected by the beast chain of command.
She stared at it dumbly, realizing what had happened. “Ow.”
“No shit, ow,” I mocked her and picked her up, placing her on the bathroom counter. Her focus was elsewhere, grabbing a syringe from a container full of them. She stabbed herself in my mark and sighed when she hit the plunger. I grumbled and growled as I put her arm under the running water. She sang to Ocio for power and our goddess healed her. I grabbed her neck. “I told you not to rip that IV out.”
But when I looked into her deep-sea colored eyes, the defeat in them made me lose my gumption. “Don’t take care of me.” Mal wasn’t one to be vulnerable. I only knew she was vulnerable based on her aggression level. She never looked at me with unshed tears in her eyes. It wasn’t right. She wasn’t supposed to be afraid I’d rip her heart out. She wasn’t supposed to be afraid of me at all. She was supposed to be my wild, untameable Mal, who knew I’d always take care of her. No matter what she did.
“I was in prison,” I answered, hoping to lift the sadness lining her face. So my brilliant man-killing mermaid would come back. “I killed a referee and got caught.”
“And you wouldn’t let Balthazar tell me.” Her whisper stabbed deep.
“I didn’t want you to get killed trying to set me free or end up in there with me.”
“We’re supposed to be together. I’ve been a good mate to you.” She jabbed her claw into my chest, but it didn’t cut anymore. Whether she wanted it to or not, the bond was repairing. My marking her reissued my claim.
Most might not see it, but Maleene was the best mate a beast like me could hope for. She matched me perfectly. I would steamroll over anyone else. She met me blow for blow. “You’ve been perfect.”
“I need some time.” She closed her eyes, but it didn’t stop the dark blue tears from streaming down her face. Her tears were priceless on the black market. Mermaids were stronger than steel and harder than any beast. Witches would slaughter a mermaid's child to get this magical ingredient, because it was believed to be the only way to get one.
I couldn’t push my dominance on her right now. She was too hurt and broken, and the first glimpse of how deep I cut her showed through. I also couldn’t walk away. That wasn’t an option for me. I was intertwined with her soul. She was a part of me. The best part of me. I took a deep breath. “I never promised to always be by your side. I promised to protect you, no matter what.” Which I’d clearly done a subpar job at.
She curled in on herself, pulling her knees up to her chest. My words didn’t soothe the ache I left inside her.
“I’m sleeping in my house. In my bed. And you are too.” But I left it at that. I didn’t demand anything else. I didn’t care if she slept on the far edge just to get away from me, but I needed her nearby.
“Thank you.” She recognized the surrender for what it was.
I went to wipe her tears, but she jerked away from me like I would hurt her. As far as being a protector goes, that was a harder hit to my nuts than her kick last night was.
