Chapter 388 For You, I Find Bitterness Sweet
Andrew's expression was cold as he looked up at Finnegan, speaking slowly but forcefully, word by word, "Because I like her. Everything about her meets my standards. There's no one else in the world who could suit me so perfectly in every way like she does."
Finnegan was furious. He spoke through gritted teeth, "Why can't you raise your standards a bit?"
Andrew replied coolly, "I'm already looking for the highest standard. Grandpa, Olivia is great. Her abilities are no less than those wealthy young ladies you've found. Plus, coming from the Medica Vitae Sect, her background is excellent too. And her looks—in my eyes, no one can compare to her."
Finnegan's face darkened as he suppressed his anger, saying, "I think you've just been bewitched by her! That's why you insist on having her!"
He took a deep breath and tried to reason with him earnestly. "Andrew, you've always been a rational child. Why are you being so stubborn about this?"
Andrew's expression didn't change at all. "I'm not being stubborn. I have my own judgment. Hasn't Grandpa always known that?"
Finnegan argued back, "But that Olivia isn't a good match for you! Don't think I don't know about the recent rumors going around? She's been suspended from the research institute, and she made mistakes without any remorse. Before, she at least had some redeeming qualities. But now, even those are gone, and you still insist?"
Finnegan took a deep breath before he continued, "Do you know what people outside are saying about you? They say you could pick someone better, but you're choosing someone else's secondhand goods!"
Those last few words were practically squeezed out through Finnegan's teeth.
Just thinking about it made him upset.
Andrew had always been someone to be proud of since childhood. Wherever he went, everyone praised him.
When had he ever been mocked like this?
Andrew was unfazed. "I don't know, and I don't want to know. What others say has nothing to do with me. But there's one thing I need to correct. You're a wise person so why would you believe these rumors? You've taught me since childhood to make my own judgments about things. I can see more clearly than anyone what kind of person Olivia is. The research institute matter isn't her fault either. Besides, the incident is still under investigation. Before the results come out, no one has the right to make conclusions. And another thing..."
Andrew placed the chess piece in his hand at a key position on the board.
The situation on the board was instantly reversed, but he seemed oblivious as he asked Finnegan, "Grandpa, don't you trust my judgment of people?"
Finnegan frowned deeply.
Andrew certainly wouldn't be wrong about people, but Olivia just couldn't be with him!
"Can't you just listen to me on this marriage matter?"
Finnegan was getting anxious, his tone becoming urgent.
Andrew nodded and calmly tried to persuade him, "Grandpa, things forced together won't turn out well. I hope you can understand this!"
After saying this, Andrew knew he couldn't continue talking with Finnegan tonight, so he stood up and said, "You lost."
"What?" Finnegan was stunned for a moment, then looked down to discover that the game he was about to win had somehow been completely destroyed.
Immediately, the fire in his heart burned even stronger. "Come back! Let's play another round!"
"I'm not playing anymore. You should rest early, don't stay up too late, your health matters."
He picked up his suit jacket and continued, "Also, I don't expect you to accept Olivia right away. But I hope, Grandpa, you can take another look. She's really wonderful, she's the person I want to protect for the rest of my life! I'm leaving now!"
After Andrew finished speaking, he left The Hamilton Mansion.
Finnegan looked toward the doorway, his face full of shock mixed with disbelief.
He even said things like protecting her for life.
It seemed he was serious about that Olivia!
Finnegan's expression was complicated. Honestly, he really couldn't accept this outcome.
Why wouldn't he listen?
The butler beside him had witnessed the entire dispute between grandfather and grandson. Seeing Finnegan standing there motionless, he felt somewhat sympathetic.
"Mr. Hamilton, Andrew has grown up and has his own ideas. You don't need to worry too much about his affairs."
Finnegan turned around and picked up the chess pieces on the board by himself, sighing as he said, "How can I not worry? His mother is gone, and the Robinson family is what it is. If I don't look after him, what if he makes the wrong choice?"
Now, because of Olivia, his reputation had already been damaged. If he remained stubborn, who knew if he might end up completely disgraced in the future?
Finnegan couldn't bear to see that happen.
The butler hesitated for two seconds before finally speaking up, "Andrew is someone with great vision. Those so-called rumors aren't worth paying attention to. For him, caring about outside gossip is just a waste of time. Besides, he's the one who has to live his future days with Olivia if he goes through with it. Only he knows whether it's good or not, right?"
However, Finnegan was currently stuck in his own way of thinking and couldn't hear what the butler was saying.
When Andrew left The Hamilton Mansion, he headed straight for Liliana Retreat.
On the way back, he asked David about something.
"Are the rumors outside still spreading badly?"
A few days ago, he had already told David to handle it.
He originally thought they would quiet down a bit.
Thinking of Finnegan's words just now, Andrew's expression turned cold.
David glanced at the rearview mirror and immediately replied, "Those who don't dare offend you have long stopped spreading rumors, at least not openly. The rest are all people who don't know any better. Of course, the biggest troublemaker fanning the flames is still Charlotte."
A cold look appeared in Andrew's eyes. "No matter, let her be arrogant for a couple more days."
David didn't miss that flash of hostility.
He was already mourning for the Ross family in his heart.
Provoking Andrew again and again.
Charlotte probably didn't know she was about to face disaster, did she?
When the car stopped outside Liliana Retreat, it was already past ten at night.
Andrew pushed open the door and saw a dim yellow light on in the living room.
Under the light, Olivia was leaning on the sofa, her head nodding as she dozed off.
Was she waiting for him?
The moment this thought arose, all the coldness around Andrew melted away, and even his expression softened.
He walked quietly to the sofa, picked Olivia up around the waist, and prepared to carry her back to her room.
Olivia sensed his approach. When he picked her up, she naturally wrapped her arms around his neck, her voice sleepy and confused as she said, "You're back?"
Andrew looked at her drowsy appearance, his voice low and extremely gentle, "I'm back late, you must be tired? Let me take you to rest."
Olivia didn't struggle. Like a docile little cat, she nestled in his arms, letting him carry her back to the room and place her on the bed.
When she lay down, she actually became more alert.
Especially when Andrew bent down and didn't straighten up immediately, but instead leaned over her slightly, staring at her.
Andrew's gaze was deep, like a vast galaxy.
His long, narrow eyes with slightly upturned corners had an indescribable beauty and allure.
Being stared at so intently, Olivia felt like he was captivating her soul.
She blinked gently and asked him, "What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"
Andrew's voice lowered a bit as he said, "Nothing, I just wanted to ask if you feel it's very hard?"
Olivia quickly understood what he was referring to.
She immediately shook her head and replied, "No, although I have to go back and forth every day, I know that you and Mr. McCoy are building connections for me. If it were other things, I might not be able to do them. But treating people—this is my strength, my area of expertise. I quite enjoy it."
That's what she said, but only she knew it wasn't as easy as she made it sound.
Especially every time she provided treatment, it consumed a lot of energy.
It was tiring, truly, but every time she cured someone, she still felt a deep sense of satisfaction and achievement.
Of course, Olivia still couldn't figure out why Rodolfo and Andrew wanted to build such a strong network for her.
While treating people from the special abilities team, Olivia had overheard them mention it.
Because of his special abilities, Damon had made outstanding achievements and had helped many people.
In Harmony City, he was extremely well-connected, not just in the military, but even wealthy families had to show him respect!
Andrew didn't elaborate, but his eyes seemed to show some heartache and emotions that were hard to understand.
Olivia found it strange. She asked suspiciously, "Are you unhappy tonight?"
"No."
Andrew concealed the emotions in his eyes and said, "I was just thinking that being with me means you have to face more things than before. I thought that having me protect you would be enough. But reality isn't making that easy."
Finnegan's words tonight had affected him somewhat.
Those people outside—were they really scolding him?
Every word was clearly scolding Olivia, belittling Olivia.
Andrew realized from this that he had wronged her somewhat.
From the beginning, he had promised not to let her suffer.
Yet all these storms were brought to her by him.
Hearing him say this, Olivia hooked her arms around his neck, smiled gently, and said, "What's wrong with that? I'm willing, and I like it this way. Besides, at least I have someone pushing me forward. You and Mr. McCoy have been protecting me all along. Others would want this opportunity but don't have it. And my boyfriend is so excellent, so wonderful. If I don't work hard, how can I stand better beside you?"
Olivia lifted her head, hooked her arms around his neck, and kissed his lips. "Although I don't know what happened to you tonight, Andrew, from the beginning of being with you, I was prepared. I knew there would be storms ahead. But because it's you, I have the courage to move forward. No matter what I have to face, I'll work hard to overcome it. What I want is to stand shoulder to shoulder with you and not be the weak person you always have to protect. Everyone knows that my Andrew deserves the best! Because of this goal, everything I do is done willingly and gladly!"
