Chapter 385 So Obedient
Andrew was a bit surprised too. "An old flame?"
Olivia nodded and told him about Marigold.
After hearing it, Andrew chuckled lightly and said, "I didn't expect Marigold to have such a past."
Hearing his tone, Olivia couldn't help but ask, "You know her too?"
Andrew nodded, saying, "In Harmony City, there's no one who doesn't know Marigold."
The Walsh family held a remarkable position in literary circles.
Starting from over ten generations back, their family had produced many famous writers.
Even now, quite a few family members still held important positions in the national think tank.
As the only daughter of the previous family head, Marigold was brilliantly talented and both beautiful and intelligent.
Many people in Harmony City wanted to build connections with her."
"I had no idea..." Olivia was shocked.
She had thought people wanted to become Marigold's students purely because of her talent.
She never expected there was this additional reason.
However, remembering this was Harmony City, Olivia didn't seem so surprised after all.
Andrew watched her changing expressions with amusement, then raised his hand to lightly scratch under her chin, like he was teasing a cat.
Then he continued, "Mr. McCoy really cares about you. Everything he's doing is paving the way for you.
Whether it's Tomas or Marigold, he's clearly building a network of connections for you."
Olivia caught on quickly.
Actually, just moments ago, she had already realized something.
Was it because of that incident at the research institute?
She lowered her eyes and stayed silent for a long time.
Only now did she realize that Rodolfo wasn't as calm as he appeared on the surface.
He was probably worried too that if the research institute couldn't find anything, according to her agreement with them, she would be dismissed.
That's why he was building these connections for her now.
He hoped that even if she left the research institute, she would have more paths to take in the future, more choices available to her, right?
Thinking about this, Olivia felt her nose tingle.
She shouldn't have teased Rodolfo earlier.
Andrew's eyes darkened as he lifted Olivia's chin and brushed against her delicate nose, saying, "Looks like Mr. McCoy and I are thinking along the same lines.
I originally had similar plans.
He just beat me to it."
Hearing Andrew's words, the sadness that had just risen in Olivia was replaced by confusion.
She looked at Andrew and asked, "You were also planning to have me treat people?"
Andrew nodded. "Yes."
"Why?" Olivia didn't understand.
But Andrew didn't intend to tell her more. Instead, he kept her in suspense, saying, "Well, when the time comes, you'll know.
For the next few days, besides treating Marigold, give me all your remaining time. I'll take you to the military district, okay?"
Though her curiosity was piqued, Olivia didn't doubt Andrew's words at all.
Because this man, like Rodolfo, was thinking about her future.
So Olivia obediently nodded and agreed, "Okay, I understand."
Andrew was very satisfied with her trusting attitude toward him.
He happily lowered his head and kissed her lips, saying, "Good girl."
Her willingness to cooperate was one thing, but Andrew didn't forget to brief her on his upcoming arrangements.
So he gave her a heads-up: "When we go to the military district, the treatment process will be very hard and tiring.
During these days, stay at Liliana Retreat.
It's closer, so when you finish at night, it won't be too rushed to get back.
Later, let your parents know. Don't bring Bianca—leave her at home to keep them company."
"Okay." Olivia had no objections to his arrangements.
That evening, when she went home to have dinner with her parents, she told them about it. "For the next few days, I need to go to the military district base. There are treatment assignments there, and I'll be very busy, so I'll stay there directly. I'll need you to help look after Bianca."
"Sure!" Vaughn never questioned his daughter's decisions.
Victoria also nodded, saying, "Don't worry about your work. We'll take good care of Bianca."
They both knew their daughter was capable.
And these past days, Rodolfo had often taken her to treat many important people in Harmony City.
So they had gotten used to Olivia going on medical visits.
However, they looked at Olivia with concern and carefully reminded her, "Rest when you're tired from work. Don't push yourself too hard. Your health is more important."
"Okay!" A warm feeling flowed through Olivia's heart.
To her, whatever the outcome at the research institute, it wasn't a terrible thing.
Life was about more than just career—there were also family members who cared about her.
Early the next morning, Andrew drove over to pick her up.
Olivia had already packed her things.
Before leaving, Bianca reluctantly hugged Olivia's leg to say goodbye. "Mommy, you have to eat on time and take good care of yourself. I'll miss you at home!"
"Okay, I'll definitely miss you too." She picked up Bianca and kissed her soft cheek, reminding her, "You have to listen to Grandpa and Grandma at home, okay?"
"Yes!" Bianca nodded her little head obediently.
Then she actively climbed down from Olivia and waved her little hand. "Mommy, goodbye!"
"Baby, goodbye!"
Under the watchful eyes of Bianca and her parents, Olivia left with her luggage.
After meeting up with Andrew, the car headed straight to the military district.
It was then that Olivia began asking Andrew, "Can you tell me about the patient I'll be treating this time?"
That way she could be mentally prepared.
Andrew stopped keeping her in suspense and told her, "You'll be helping a special unit."
"Hmm?" Olivia asked curiously, "Like the Emerald City special forces?"
Andrew shook his head, giving a negative answer. "Even more special than the special forces!"
Olivia hadn't quite grasped the degree of this "special."
Not until they arrived at the military district, went through multiple security checks, and were finally brought to a restricted area did she finally understand what this "special" meant!
She never expected that the ones she would be helping were actually a team with special abilities!
This team was a very mysterious unit within the country.
So mysterious that those who hadn't seen it only considered it a legend.
The team actually didn't have many members.
But each person had special innate abilities.
Normally, all team members weren't gathered together but were dispersed to carry out secret missions.
They rarely appeared in public.
Olivia was quite amazed. "I've heard before that there are special talented people in the military, but I thought it was just a rumor. I didn't expect it to actually be true!"
Her mood was excited and exhilarated.
Just then, a middle-aged man who looked like a commanding officer walked in.
The first thing one noticed was that he wore hearing aids in both ears.
He walked in with a steady presence and greeted Andrew, "You're here?"
From his tone, the two seemed quite familiar.
Andrew nodded slightly and introduced him to Olivia. "This is the leader of the special abilities unit—Damon Whitley."
This identity didn't surprise Olivia much.
She immediately greeted him politely, "Mr. Whitley, hello. I'm Olivia."
Damon nodded slightly, but his gaze at Olivia carried a sharp scrutiny.
His eyes seemed to want to see right through her.
This was the first time Olivia had been examined like this, making her feel somewhat constrained.
But she didn't dodge. Instead, she stood quietly in place, letting him scrutinize her.
After a while, Damon finally withdrew his gaze, his expression softening a bit, and he didn't hold back his praise: "Not bad courage. Where did you find this girl? First time I've seen her!"
This last part was directed at Andrew.
Andrew calmly introduced her identity. "She's my girlfriend."
Hearing this answer, Damon looked surprised.
Then he couldn't help but look at Olivia again, afraid he'd missed something.
This time, Olivia felt a bit embarrassed.
She felt he was examining her out of curiosity because she was dating Andrew.
Andrew noticed this and spoke up to protect her. "Damon, she's timid. Don't scare her."
Hearing this, Damon looked even more like he'd discovered a new world, staring at Andrew.
As if trying to see whether this was really him.
A few seconds later, he couldn't help but laugh, his laughter hearty. "So you've finally met your match! That's truly rare!
But are you sure this young lady's medical skills are up to par?
Don't tell me you're showing favoritism just because she's your girlfriend."
Andrew looked up at him and said flatly, "In your eyes, am I that kind of person?"
Olivia sighed inwardly.
When would these big shots stop judging a person's medical skills by their age?
Damon instinctively glanced at Olivia, then stroked his chin and said, "Age really can't determine a person's medical skills.
But you're so young—normal people would rather trust an older doctor."
Olivia's eyes widened slightly, but she didn't speak, thinking, 'How does he know what I'm thinking? Did I accidentally say it out loud?'
Andrew reminded her from the side, "Don't secretly complain about him in your mind. He can read minds. If you have opinions, wait until we leave here to say them."
Olivia looked completely stunned! "So, Mr. Whitley, you also have special abilities?"
Damon laughed and said, "If I didn't, how could I lead a team with special abilities?"
Olivia couldn't argue with that.
Damon had had enough fun and his expression became serious. "Alright, I'm done teasing you. Since Andrew brought you here, it means your abilities should be good.
If that's the case, let's get started."
After saying this, he led Olivia and Andrew inside.
