Chapter 169 Chasing Someone, Why So Secretive?
He opened the door and got out of the car, then went inside the house.
As soon as Sophia saw him, she immediately came forward to greet him with a gentle smile, "You're back? Must be tired, right?"
Michael nodded slightly, took off his suit jacket, and sat down on the sofa, casually massaging his leg.
Sophia didn't notice his discomfort. Her eyes just wandered around him.
Then, a hint of disappointment appeared.
Today was Valentine's Day. She had reminded and urged him repeatedly, thinking he would bring her flowers and gifts when he came home.
But he came back empty-handed!
No matter what, this was their first Valentine's Day together. How could he be so careless?
Sophia felt a bit hurt inside, but held it in and said, "Are you hungry? Want something to eat? I made steak and prepared some special red wine. After all those bad things that happened, it's rare to have a holiday. Let's take this chance to relax!"
Her words carried a hint of suggestion.
It would have been better if she hadn't said anything. Once she did, Michael's frown deepened even more.
Couldn't she see his leg was bothering him?
And besides, was steak and red wine really appropriate for someone who just came back from a business dinner?
At this moment, Michael couldn't help but think of Olivia again, the woman who annoyed him.
If it were that woman, she would never be like this.
She would always notice his discomfort right away. After every business dinner, she would basically prepare hangover soup, and have warm porridge and light food ready in advance, making him feel comfortable.
Michael was extremely irritated, and his tone wasn't good either, "I'm not hungry, you eat by yourself. By the way... last time you said you'd help me contact that famous doctor in the south to look at my leg. What happened with that?"
This time Sophia reacted quickly and hurried to say, "I did contact him, but that doctor keeps a low profile and has a strange temper. He doesn't see patients easily. I sent people to find him before, but they were turned away several times and he didn't agree.
But I'll keep trying, Michael. Is your leg bothering you?"
"You just noticed?"
Michael's tone was full of dissatisfaction.
Sophia jumped, no longer thinking about Valentine's Day gifts, and quickly tried to make up for it, "I'm sorry, I was careless. So many things have happened lately, I've been a mess myself, which made me overlook your condition.
It's my fault, Michael, don't be angry. I'll go make your medicine right now!"
To show she really cared and was considerate, she watched the whole process, and even pretended to get burned.
In the past, Michael would have felt sorry for her.
But tonight his old injury was acting up, and he simply didn't have the energy to care about her clumsy act. So Sophia put on a one-woman show.
That night, after taking his medicine, Michael went straight back to his room to rest without looking back.
Sophia was left standing there, feeling inexplicably desolate.
Just then, someone called her.
Sophia didn't really want to answer, but the caller was extremely persistent, calling several times in a row.
She frowned and looked at the screen.
It was an unknown number.
"Who is this?"
She answered impatiently.
The person on the other end seemed to pause for a moment, then said with interest, "Oh? I thought you'd be having a great time on Valentine's Day. Looks like that's not the case.
Has the CEO of Johnson Group discovered your true colors yet? My 'dear' ex-wife!"
When Sophia heard that voice, she felt like she'd been struck by lightning.
Beyond shock was endless panic.
Why would this man know her contact information?
The call seemed to be from a domestic number.
Had he come to Emerald City???
Sophia's face changed dramatically, and she was so scared she dropped her phone.
......
After leaving the restaurant, Olivia was driven back to her apartment complex by Andrew.
When getting out of the car, she said goodbye to the man beside her, "I had a great time today. Thank you, Mr. Hamilton, for spending the afternoon with Bianca."
Bianca followed in a sweet childlike voice, "Thank you, Uncle Andrew~"
Andrew rubbed her little head and replied, "You're welcome, as long as you're happy... You're starting school tomorrow, right? We'll schedule the second treatment for another time!"
"Okay."
Olivia agreed, "Then we'll head in now? Drive safely!"
Bianca waved her little hand and got out of the car with Olivia.
Just before leaving, Andrew suddenly said, "Wait a moment."
"Hmm?"
Olivia turned back puzzled and asked, "Is there something else?"
Andrew didn't answer. He just calmly picked up a bag from the passenger seat, handed it over, and said, "I asked David to buy this earlier. Bianca gave me two gifts today, so this is a return gift... and also a celebration gift for her starting school."
Olivia didn't know whether to laugh or cry, "Why are you spending money again? You told me not to be polite before, but now you're the one being polite."
"It's nothing expensive, just candy. Take it."
Andrew's voice was gentle but with an undeniable firmness.
Olivia had no choice but to accept it.
Inside the bag was indeed candy.
But it was arranged like a bouquet, decorated with pink fox plushies and ambient lights, looking full of childlike charm.
But... for some reason, there were two bouquets!
Did he accidentally buy too many?
Perhaps because of past experience, this time Olivia didn't dare to overthink it.
She just smiled and said, "We haven't finished what you gave us before, and now we're stocking up on so much more. I don't know when we'll finish eating all this."
Andrew glanced at her and chuckled, "If Bianca can't finish it, you can help. With low blood sugar, eating a few pieces a day isn't too much!"
After saying this, he didn't wait for her reaction and changed the subject, "Go on back, get some rest early!"
Olivia's mind couldn't catch up, so she could only nod obediently.
Soon, she took Bianca and headed back into the complex...
In the driver's seat, David stared at the mother and daughter's backs, still a bit puzzled.
Why didn't Olivia show any sign of joy?
Two candy bouquets - clearly one was meant for her!
Could it be... the gift was too subtle and she didn't get the hint?
Thinking of this possibility, David couldn't help but say to Andrew in the back seat, "We should have bought one rose bouquet and one candy bouquet, right?"
When pursuing someone, who does it so secretly?
Who could understand that?
Andrew looked at him with a half-smile and said, "How would you know? Just drive your car!"
David was speechless.
His suggestion was clearly good, so why wouldn't Andrew listen?
At this rate, when would Andrew ever get a girlfriend?
David was worried sick, but didn't dare say more. He could only awkwardly look away.
But just then, out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly caught sight of something outside...
Olivia, who should have entered the complex, now had a figure in front of her.
The man seemed to be waiting specifically for her.
Wearing an expensive custom-tailored suit that made him look tall and elegant with a roguish charm, holding an armful of roses that seriously clashed with his style...
No matter how you looked at it, it seemed like he was about to confess!
"Mr. Hamilton, that's Daniel!"
David's gaze snapped back, and he excitedly reminded Andrew in the back seat.
