Chapter 81 Gave Sophia Three Slaps
Half an hour later, Andrew showed up, right on time.
Steven Hernandez, the police chief, was so rattled that he came out to meet Andrew himself.
Leading them into his office, Steven asked, "Is there something urgent going on?"
Andrew, calm and in control, crossed his long legs and settled on the couch. "Ms. Anderson won't confess, so I had to come down here myself."
Steven, catching the seriousness of the situation, quickly asked, "So, Mr. Hamilton, what do you suggest we do?"
Andrew was direct, "I need to see the suspect. Make it happen."
Steven didn't hesitate, "Of course, I'll set it up right away."
Steven moved fast, and soon Harper was brought into the interrogation room.
Standing up, Andrew told Olivia, "You and Bianca wait out here."
Olivia nodded, watching Andrew's tall figure as he walked into the room.
No one outside could hear what was being said, but they could see everything through the one-way glass.
Andrew stayed cool, leaning back in his chair, exuding confidence. But Harper went from defiant to nervous, then frantic, and finally broke down, sobbing on the table.
Anyone watching could see Harper's psychological defenses had completely shattered.
Andrew emerged from the room, composed as ever, and instructed Steven, "Send someone in to take her statement. She'll confess everything now."
Steven nodded and sent officers in to take Harper's statement.
This time, Olivia could hear the whole interrogation.
Harper spilled everything, "Sophia was the one who strongly recommended me to Michael to treat his daughter. During several conversations, she hinted that I shouldn't treat the child well and should actually make her condition worse. I followed her instructions and mentally pressured the child on purpose..."
Olivia trembled with anger.
She had suspected something was off about Harper's treatment, and now her suspicions were confirmed.
Harper had been malicious from the start, using the guise of treatment to harm Bianca.
She was so furious that she wanted to storm in and hit Harper.
Andrew seemed to sense this and gently raised his hand to stop her, speaking softly, "The law will take care of her. No need to get your hands dirty."
His words calmed Olivia down, and she nodded, "Alright."
As she spoke, she couldn't help but admire Andrew.
In less than half an hour, he had managed to break Harper's psychological defenses.
His methods were incredibly effective.
Without him, it would have been much harder to seek justice for Bianca.
After a while, the interrogation wrapped up.
Steven approached Olivia with the statement in hand, "We'll summon Sophia and investigate this. If everything Harper said is true, we'll make sure your daughter gets justice."
Andrew firmly instructed, "Take this seriously!"
Steven wouldn't dare disagree.
With Andrew personally involved, this matter couldn't be swept under the rug.
He immediately ordered the police to summon Sophia.
It was a long afternoon, and by the time they were done, night had fallen.
Olivia, exhausted, sat in a chair and apologized to Andrew, "I'm sorry, Mr. Hamilton. Dinner will have to wait. I'm sorry you had to spend the afternoon at the police station dealing with this."
Andrew didn't seem to mind, "Bianca is my student and patient. It's my duty to help her. No need to apologize."
Olivia felt both grateful and moved.
She didn't know how she would ever repay his kindness for all the times he had helped them.
Later, Andrew had to leave for other matters, leaving Olivia to wait with Bianca.
When Sophia got home from the police station, she felt a sense of relief.
She was confident Harper wouldn't spill anything.
But her relief was short-lived, as she soon received another summons from the police.
Panic set in as she wondered if Harper had confessed.
Sophia quickly replayed her interactions with Harper in her mind.
She had been meticulous, always meeting face-to-face and never leaving any evidence behind.
Harper shouldn't have any recordings. If anything came up, she could just deny it and pin it all on Harper.
With that thought, Sophia calmed herself and headed to the police station.
When Olivia saw her arrive, her suppressed anger flared up again.
She knew Harper was just a pawn; the real mastermind was Sophia.
Sophia's motive was obvious—she wanted Michael.
If she had just been upfront about it, Olivia wouldn't have cared.
But instead, she used vile means to harm an innocent child.
Olivia was seething, ready to confront Sophia.
A female officer nearby noticed her agitation and quickly held her back. "Ms. Smith, calm down. Don't scare the child!"
Olivia gritted her teeth and forced herself to calm down.
Sophia soon faced a tough interrogation.
She denied all of Harper's accusations, "Sir, I barely know Ms. Anderson. I recommended her to the Johnson family because I heard she was excellent. Her accusations against me are baseless, and she has no evidence. I hope you won't take her word for it. Besides, I have a good relationship with Mr. Johnson and would never harm his daughter. You can investigate; the Brown and Johnson families have always been close."
The police didn't take her word for it and continued to question her thoroughly.
Sophia's responses were flawless.
After about an hour, the interrogation ended.
Steven personally informed Olivia, "Harper couldn't provide enough evidence to prove Sophia's involvement, so we can't charge her."
Olivia's face fell. She had waited all afternoon for good news that never came.
But she knew it wasn't the police's fault.
Sophia was cunning and had clearly prepared for this.
Harper likely had no incriminating evidence against her.
In the end, Olivia could only leave the police station with a heavy heart.
As she put Bianca in the car, she saw Sophia coming out.
Sophia's smugness was barely concealed. "Olivia, are you disappointed you couldn't get me locked up?"
Olivia's anger flared again at her smug face.
Sophia had acted pitifully inside the station but showed her true colors outside.
She was doing this on purpose!
Olivia's gaze was sharp as she closed the car door and approached Sophia, slapping her hard across the face.
The sound echoed in the night.
She had used all her strength.
Sophia hadn't expected Olivia to hit her and was knocked to the ground.
"Olivia, how dare you hit me?" She clutched her stinging cheek, furious.
Olivia stood over her, pulling her hair, "Sophia, I thought your methods to steal a man were despicable enough, but hurting my daughter? Who gave you the nerve? Do you think I won't do anything without evidence?"
She slapped Sophia again, "Hurt Bianca, and I'll make you pay!"
Sophia was stunned.
She wasn't one to back down, but before she could retaliate, a car approached.
Sophia recognized it and quickly changed her demeanor, becoming pitiful, "Olivia, you've misunderstood. Harper is lying to save herself. She wants me to save her in exchange for her silence."
Olivia was taken aback by Sophia's sudden change.
Before she could react, she heard Michael's cold voice, "What's going on here?"
Olivia turned to see Michael standing behind her, his expression stern.
Sophia, with tears in her eyes, clung to Michael's pants, "Michael, Harper is lying to save herself. Olivia misunderstood and hit me. I didn't do anything to hurt Bianca. Harper has no evidence. I'm being framed!"
Olivia realized Sophia was putting on a show for Michael.
But she didn't care anymore.
Whether Michael believed her or not didn't matter.
She released Sophia, her voice cold, "Sophia, you know the truth. Stop pretending. It's disgusting."
"But I didn't do it! Harper is framing me to save herself. She wants me to save her!"
Michael looked down at Sophia, his face expressionless, "Is that so?"
Sophia was taken aback.
In the past, Michael would have been sympathetic.
But tonight, he showed no reaction.
