Chapter 505 A More Malicious Scheme of the White Family
Chapter 505 A More Malicious Scheme of the White Family
After friends and family completed the farewell ceremony, Benjamin prepared to take Lilly's ashes to the cemetery.
To his surprise, more people arrived at that moment.
Benjamin knew exactly who was on the guest list for the funeral, and the service was basically over by now.
Who could be coming at this time?
He worried it might be people from the White family coming to cause trouble. His heart sank when he saw an elderly couple supporting each other, walking in shakily.
Beside them were a middle-aged couple and a young man and woman following them.
Benjamin's expression showed surprise as he froze in place.
He knew who these people were.
They were from the Moore family.
His maternal grandparents, his aunt, uncle, and his cousins.
After Lilly died, the Moore family had hated the White family so much that they cut off all contact between the two families.
Benjamin had thought about reaching out to them, but didn't due to the bad blood. They had said to his face that they didn't recognize him, calling him an illegitimate child.
Young Benjamin had been timid, and because of what they said, he had cut ties and hadn't contacted them all these years.
Seeing them now, his mind was somewhat dazed.
He pulled himself together and went forward to greet them.
Benjamin's grandparents, Randal Moore and Savannah Moore, were already crying uncontrollably. They saw Lilly's photo displayed before them.
Her young, beautiful smile made it look like she was still there with them, just being her cute self. They thought of this and broke down in tears again.
"My Lilly, we were so ignorant. How could we have married you off to such a scumbag?"
"Lilly, have you been unhappy with us this entire time? You haven't even visited my dreams. How could you be so heartless?"
Seeing Lilly's photo again, Randal and Savannah cried so hard they could barely catch their breath.
Their daughter Electra Moore came forward to support them, holding back her own grief as she tried to comfort them. "Dad, Mom, if Lilly saw you like this, she'll be sad too."
As if she didn't just say this, Electra herself was also crying. Her husband was more reserved by nature. Though he was also saddened by Lilly's situation, he could still comfort the three of them.
Benjamin's two cousins also looked upset.
Perhaps because so much time had passed, their feelings weren't as deep as the elders', so they didn't cry.
Benjamin looked at them, dumbfounded.
After his lips trembled for a moment, he finally found his voice and thanked them.
"Thank you for coming to pay your last respect to my mother."
His voice drew Randal and Savannah's attention.
They slowly stopped crying, and when they looked at Benjamin, their eyes welled up with tears again.
Supported by Electra, Savannah walked up to Benjamin.
A pair of trembling aged hand touched his face as she said with a choked voice, "Benjamin, you've grown so big. That's wonderful. You look so much like your mom. If Lilly knew, she would be so happy."
Electra also wiped her tears and said, "Benjamin, you're a good child, seeking justice for your mother. I can now understand why you didn't leave with us back then. All these years, to avenge your mother, you must have suffered so much, right?"
Randal also looked at Benjamin with sympathy and said, "You've been wronged!"
Benjamin was stunned by these words. "What do you mean? Leave with you? Did you once want to take me away?"
Electra nodded with teary eyes. "Yes, when your mother passed away, you were still young. She had asked us to take good care of you. So after we got the news, we immediately went to the White Manor to get you. But you were still so young, and maybe those people deceived you, because you didn't want to see us. My husband and I waited outside the White Manor all day, only to have the White family's servants come out and tell us that you discriminated against us because of our financial state and didn't want to come with us."
Benjamin's expression showed shock and disbelief.
Andrew picked up on some clues from what they were saying.
What the Moore family was saying was completely opposite to what Benjamin had told him before.
Seeing everyone standing there, Andrew stepped forward, patted Benjamin on the shoulder, and said, "There might be some misunderstanding here. Why don't you go to the lounge next door to talk in detail? Benjamin, take your relatives to the lounge for some water. I'll help you handle things here."
"Okay!"
Benjamin was now eager to know what really happened.
Why was what he heard completely different from what the Moore family was saying?
He immediately took the Moore family to the side room.
The Moore family wasn't what it used to be.
But they had worked hard to raise two daughters they were proud of.
One was Lilly, the other was Electra.
After Lilly died, Randal and Savannah had been depressed for a while.
Later they took Electra and left Harmony City, moving back to their hometown.
For so many years, both sides hadn't been able to sit down and talk properly.
"You just said you came to get me back then. What exactly happened?" Benjamin asked urgently after they sat down.
Electra didn't hide anything and told him everything that happened from beginning to end.
"After Lilly died, we saw the letter she left. Your grandparents were so grief-stricken they passed out crying several times. By the time they felt a bit better, your mom's funeral had already been handled. But we weren't comfortable leaving you with the shameless White family, so we wanted to take you away. But we went to the White Manor looking for you all day and never saw you. The White family wouldn't let us in either. Later, they came and told us that you looked down on the Moore family for being poor and unable to give you a comfortable life. We thought about it then, and what they said wasn't wrong. The Moore family really couldn't compare to the White family, so we didn't insist and left on our own."
After hearing Electra's words, Benjamin clenched his fists in anger.
Anger and sadness piled up in his chest.
He explained anxiously, "I never said anything like that! I had no idea you came to get me. I later wanted to visit the Moore family to see you. But they all said that the Moore family hated the White family for causing my mom's death, so you also hated me, an illegitimate child, and didn't want to see me anymore. They told me not to look for you again."
"How is that possible!"
Electra looked incredulous. "We would never think that way."
Savannah's tears fell again as she said with a choked voice, "You're Lilly's only child. We would cherish you. How could we say such cruel things?"
After comparing notes about what happened back then, both sides realized they had been deceived.
The only ones who could have done this were the White family.
"This is outrageous!"
Randal slammed the table in anger. "So we were both played by the White family! They really are cunning!"
Benjamin also figured everything out and said coldly, "They had to keep me in the White family to raise me, or rather, to personally watch me and prevent me from escaping their control."
He remained relatively calm, his emotions gradually settling from the initial state.
Then he looked at the Moore family and asked, "You must have come looking for me after seeing the news about the White family, right?"
Electra also composed herself. She nodded and said, "We saw that Lyndon and Claire were arrested for murder, and that you were the one who reported them, so we couldn't sit still. Your grandparents wanted to come here in person to ask what exactly happened. Actually, we've been in Harmony City for several days, but we couldn't reach you. It wasn't until your grandfather pulled some strings and heard that you were holding a funeral for your mother here today."
"I see."
Benjamin understood, feeling somewhat moved.
Savannah affectionately held Benjamin's hand and asked with concern, "Benjamin, tell me, how have you been living in the White family all these years? And how did you find out the truth about your mother's death? Can you tell me? We never blamed you or resented you for what happened to Lilly. The White family's evil deeds have nothing to do with you as a child. You have Lilly's blood in you. You're our family's child."
Knowing that they hadn't been able to bring Benjamin back because the White family had sabotaged them, Savannah felt even more sympathy for Benjamin.
The Moore family's attitude toward Benjamin was completely different from the White family's.
At least Benjamin could feel that their concern and sympathy for him were genuine.
His heart, though lonely for so many years, was touched.
Benjamin didn't hide anything. He told them about his treatment in the White family after Lilly died, including the rumors that had always circulated in Harmony City's high society, and how he had lived under contempt for over a decade.
"At first I didn't suspect them, but later, all the suspicious points forced me to investigate the truth. The fact is, my mom wasn't what they said she was. She was the victim. After learning all this, I couldn't suppress my hatred. I only wanted to avenge her, so I came back, returned to the White family, joined the White Group, and waited for the right moment to clear my mother's name and avenge her."
Benjamin spoke of these things in a calm tone, but Randal and Savannah, listening, felt such heartache they could barely breathe.
"The White family is truly shameless, treating even their own child so cruelly."
"If only we had forcibly taken you away back then, you wouldn't have suffered so much in the White family. All these years, you've had it so hard."
Savannah hugged Benjamin and cried uncontrollably.
Benjamin had thought that after Lilly died, he had no family left.
Unexpectedly, things had turned around, and today he had cleared up the misunderstanding with the Moore family.
Even someone as resilient as him couldn't help but have red-rimmed eyes facing his relatives' tears of sympathy.
Watching this scene, everyone else also shed tears.
Outside, Evelyn poked her head in and secretly watched for a while.
After confirming that the Moore family wasn't like the White family and wasn't bullying Benjamin, she turned to talk to the Hamilton family members.
"I thought Lilly's family didn't have many people left. I didn't expect there were so many relatives."
Patrick and Jessica had both heard the conversation inside, and they were deeply moved.
"I didn't expect there was such a big misunderstanding between them."
Finnegan snorted coldly. "The White family's scheming really runs deep. They killed Lilly and drove a wedge between Benjamin and the Moore family. They're truly shameless!"
