Chapter 29 Humiliated

Chapter 29 Humiliated

Joseph never thought Olivia would throw that question at him.

After the initial shock, he straightened up, looking dead serious.

He locked eyes with Olivia for a few seconds, trying to read her mind.

The identities of those in the military were not something to be inquired about lightly.

Olivia was genuinely startled by his intense reaction.

Did she accidentally hit a nerve?

Just as she was second-guessing herself, Joseph asked, "Why do you wanna know?"

Olivia didn't see any point in hiding the truth and explained, "I'm looking for him to help my daughter. She's three and has autism. She's adorable, but despite seeing tons of psychologists, nothing's changed.

Her life's just starting, and it breaks my heart to see her struggle, so I..."

"I get it." Joseph's expression softened a bit as he took it in.

He remembered how he'd searched high and low for someone to fix his legs and found no one until he met her. She healed him, but couldn't help her own daughter.

Joseph's tone became gentler, "You've had a rough go... But I'm surprised you even found out about this guy!"

Olivia admitted, "It took forever to dig this up on a military forum. But info online is scarce; all I know is that he exists, nothing more."

Joseph nodded, not surprised, and said, "To be honest, there is such a person, but his identity is so top-secret that even with my rank, I can't access his details."

Olivia was floored.

She knew the guy was a big deal, but this was next level!

Did this mean no hope for Bianca?

Olivia felt a wave of disappointment.

Joseph noticed her downcast look and felt a twinge of guilt.

But as a soldier, some things were off-limits.

Especially about someone as legendary as this guy.

The most famous thing about this person wasn't curing rich folks or presidents but cracking the psychological defenses of a world-renowned spy to extract crucial secrets!

His identity was so classified that regular folks couldn't even dream of reaching him.

The country and the military held him in the highest regard.

However, Joseph didn't want to leave his benefactor hanging.

So he quickly added, "Dr. Garcia, don't lose hope. You've done me a huge favor, and I'm not ungrateful. I'll do my best to dig up more about this guy for you."

Olivia perked up and thanked him, "That would mean a lot, Mr. Miller!"

Since Joseph was still recovering, Olivia didn't stick around after her question and soon left the ward.

Daniel, noticing her mood, handed her a check, "See if this works for you."

Olivia took it absentmindedly, but when she saw the amount, she was floored. "Twenty million dollars? Why so much?"

Daniel smiled, "Mr. Miller runs a state-owned military enterprise. Twenty million is pocket change to him. Plus, since your surgery went well, he threw in another ten million just now.

You earned it, no need to split it!"

Olivia had been a bit down, but now she brightened, "Thanks a lot! Let's celebrate with dinner tonight!"

Daniel, seeing her happy, couldn't help but smile.

Olivia's mood had finally lifted!

However, he declined the dinner, "Another time. You've just finished surgery and must be wiped out. Go home and rest! You don't need to come in tomorrow. Take a day off, just swing by the Wilson Group to sign the cooperation agreement."

Olivia had no objections.

A few hours of surgery had taken its toll.

She hadn't felt it earlier, but now the exhaustion was catching up.

So she quickly said goodbye and left the hospital.

The next day, at the Wilson Group.

Early in the morning, Sophia had breakfast and came over to discuss cooperation with Daniel.

Last time at the café, she was turned away for not having an appointment.

This time, she had Nolan set one up in advance, so she went straight to the front desk to check in.

The receptionist did as instructed and soon returned with feedback, "Mr. Wilson is in a meeting. Please wait in the lobby..."

Sophia was a bit miffed.

She was a distinguished guest, yet they didn't even let her wait in a guest room?

But this was the Wilson Group, so she didn't dare lose her temper and nodded, waiting obediently.

Unexpectedly, she ended up waiting for over an hour.

Growing impatient, Sophia inquired again.

The receptionist smiled politely, "Sorry, Mr. Wilson's meeting isn't over yet. Please wait a bit longer."

Sophia suppressed her anger and continued to wait.

Another hour passed...

When Olivia arrived, she saw Sophia asking the receptionist for the third time, "I've been waiting for almost three hours. Is Mr. Wilson still in a meeting?"

The receptionist's smile remained impeccable, "Yes, miss. Please wait a bit longer..."

Sophia was about to blow up.

Just then, Olivia approached the receptionist, "Hi, I have an appointment with Mr. Wilson. My name is Olivia ."

The receptionist immediately responded, "Of course."

Sophia, seeing Olivia, was visibly surprised. "Olivia, what are you doing here?"

Olivia, not fond of Sophia, didn't want to respond and kept a cold expression.

Sophia narrowed her eyes, looking Olivia up and down.

Olivia was wearing a sharp business suit, high heels, and had her hair half-up, looking elegant and professional, holding a document.

Sophia sneered, "Are you here for a job interview at the Wilson Group?"

Olivia frowned, finding her annoying.

Sophia, thinking she had guessed correctly, began to mock, "Well, considering you were just removed from your management position at the Johnson Group, you need to find a new path. But do you think the Wilson Group will hire you?

Their standards are high. Don't think you can get special treatment like at the Johnson Group because of Michael."

Olivia was growing impatient, "First, I got into the Johnson Group on my own merit and passed numerous tests to secure my position. It had nothing to do with Michael.

Second, whether the Wilson Group hires me is none of your business. Stop meddling and buzzing around like a fly. It's annoying!"

Sophia's face darkened at the blunt words.

She held back, maintaining a superior attitude, "I know you're upset because Michael supports me and gave me your position!

But I'm kind-hearted. I'm quite familiar with Mr. Wilson. If you really want a job, I can introduce you."

Olivia found her arrogance nauseating.

She laughed, "You? Introduce me?"

Sophia puffed up her chest, looking proud, "Yes! You know Michael's attitude towards me. In this city, any connection I want, he'll work hard to provide!"

Olivia remained expressionless.

She didn't doubt Sophia's words.

Michael had abandoned his wife and child for her. What couldn't he do?

But the more Sophia bragged, the less Olivia reacted.

As they spoke, the elevator doors opened nearby.

Daniel walked over with long strides.

He stopped and asked gently, "Have you been waiting long?"

Sophia, thinking he was talking to her, smiled and stepped forward.

But Olivia replied, "Not long, I just got here."

Daniel nodded, "Good. Come on, I've got coffee and pastries ready for you."

"Okay." Olivia agreed, ready to go up with Daniel.

Before leaving, she paused and asked playfully, "By the way, this is Ms. Brown. She says she knows you well and offered to introduce me for a job here. Do you really know her?"

Daniel didn't even glance at Sophia, "I have high standards. The people I associate with must be of good character. I don't deal with trash. Don't believe rumors."

Olivia chuckled, "I thought so! Let's go!"

Daniel nodded and escorted Olivia to the private elevator.

He didn't spare a glance at Sophia the entire time.

Sophia stood there, feeling embarrassed.

She never expected Olivia to know Daniel!

Thinking back on her showy behavior earlier, she felt utterly humiliated.
