Chapter 154 The Person You Care About Should Shine and Radiate
Because Joseph notified her so suddenly, after ending the call, Olivia could only assign work to her team members as quickly as possible before heading back to pack.
As it turned out, before she'd even finished packing, Joseph's driver had already arrived.
Olivia hurried downstairs to meet him and was sent straight to the airport.
It was only on the way there that she found a chance to inform Daniel about this.
After all, dropping company matters to handle something else, she should give him a heads-up.
Her tone was apologetic, "It's a matter of life and death, plus we just finished negotiating the cooperation with Harmony City, so it wouldn't look good to just ignore it."
After hearing everything, Daniel said with amusement, "You don't need to explain so thoroughly to me. The Harmony City project got approved so quickly, I figure it also has something to do with your connections with the military."
Joseph's push certainly helped, but the military's regard for Olivia's medical skills and research technology was the key to securing those projects.
He'd already picked up hints of this from the two bureau chiefs back in Harmony City.
Therefore, Daniel naturally wouldn't stand in her way too much.
For Olivia now, she needed to build up her own network.
Only this way would she become stronger and stronger.
The person he cared about should shine in her own field and hold an exceptional position.
Not be worn down and dimmed by a terrible marriage.
With this thought, Daniel added, "Go ahead without worry. I'll keep an eye on things at the company, and if anything comes up, I'll notify you right away."
Seeing he had no intention of blaming her, Olivia breathed a slight sigh of relief and replied, "Okay."
The two didn't chat much longer before hanging up.
The car sped along the entire way, arriving at the airport forty minutes later.
As soon as she got out, someone guided her through the fastest route to board a private jet.
When the plane took off, night had just fallen outside. By the time it landed again, it was already 10 PM.
After such a long flight, emerging in an unfamiliar city, even Olivia felt somewhat disoriented.
But the person in charge of receiving her gave her no time to collect herself, instead putting her straight onto a helicopter.
The helicopter flew over the city before heading straight for the mountains.
An hour later, the brilliant lights of the city gradually disappeared, leaving only the thick, impenetrable night and fog outside the window.
Olivia was exhausted and dizzy.
If she hadn't confirmed multiple times that this trip was at Joseph's invitation, she would've suspected she'd been tricked into going to some remote mountain area.
Just as she was drowsy and half-asleep, the helicopter finally landed.
"Dr. Garcia, we're here."
The staff member receiving her gave a thoughtful reminder.
Then the cabin door opened.
Olivia quickly got up from her seat and got off the helicopter.
Only then did she see clearly what was outside.
A military camp with buildings stood in the nighttime jungle, heavily guarded, with special forces members carrying weapons on patrol visible from time to time.
After a quick look around, Olivia was somewhat surprised.
She'd thought this would be another treatment at a Military Base Housing, but looking at this place, it was clearly a stationed base...
No wonder it took so long to get here!
It was almost midnight now!
As she pondered this, several people approached quickly from a distance.
Leading them was a man who looked to be in his early thirties, with a buzz cut, sharp and rugged features, rough skin, and an upright physique full of strength, with the fierce and powerful presence a special forces soldier should have.
They all wore black special forces uniforms!
Upon seeing her, he greeted her, "Hello, you must be Dr. Garcia?"
Olivia forced herself to perk up, nodded, and responded, "Yes."
The man nodded, his gaze briefly sizing her up, though without any offense, just with a hint of curiosity.
However, it was only for a moment before he suppressed it and got straight to the point, "My name is Henry Phillips. I'm the captain of the special forces team. Having you come here so abruptly was somewhat presumptuous.
However, the situation here is truly urgent and can't be delayed, so we had no choice but to have you rush here like this. Please don't take offense."
Olivia didn't mind.
Although the journey was indeed tiring, she wasn't that delicate.
She decided not to waste words and said directly, "Mr. Phillips, since it's so urgent, let's not delay. Shall we start right away? Please tell me about the special forces members' condition!
After I received the notice, I've been traveling the whole time, so I don't know the specific situation. Is it an injury? Or something else?"
Henry didn't delay either, leading her inside.
As they walked, he said, "Well... I can't really say. Perhaps you'll know after you see them, because even the military doctors can't figure it out."
Olivia couldn't help but be puzzled.
Can't figure it out?
Then it probably wasn't an injury.
Could it be poison?
But that didn't seem right either...
Even with an unknown poison, they should be able to detect something.
Filled with confusion, she quickly followed Henry to the medical area.
The medical facilities at this base were quite complete.
Upon entering, she could see military doctors and nurses bustling about, as well as special forces members lying in beds.
They looked listless, with pale faces and lips.
Some could move normally, some had persistent high fevers, and others sat on their beds waving their arms, appearing somewhat deranged, which was quite perplexing.
Olivia was somewhat shocked and looked at Henry, "This..."
What's going on?
Why is everyone in a different state???
Henry seemed to sense her surprise and said with a serious expression, "This is exactly why I wanted Dr. Garcia to see for herself. Previously, our squad infiltrated a dangerous area to carry out a mission. After we came out, the entire team showed different states of 'madness.'
At first we thought they'd been stimulated by something, after all... that mission was extremely dangerous, and people died.
Later, after withdrawing, we immediately brought in a psychologist for treatment.
But the psychologist determined it wasn't a psychological issue, and treatment by military doctors had no effect either.
We heard that a similar situation occurred at the Emerald City military district before, and it was Dr. Garcia who personally treated them, so that's why we specifically asked you to come!"
Hearing this, Olivia finally understood the general situation.
But her brows still furrowed slightly, feeling this trip wouldn't be optimistic.
The special forces members in Emerald City had similar problems, but their bodies hadn't shown this kind of weakened state.
Not to mention fevers and such...
Olivia didn't dare delay and quickly went to change clothes before beginning to examine the special forces members.
The process confirmed her suspicion.
The special forces members here had completely different symptoms from those in Emerald City!
Moreover, during her examination, she discovered that several of them were even in life-threatening condition.
