Chapter 149 Crazy Hint
Andrew seemed a bit puzzled and frowned, "What's unusual about it? The Johnson Group stole confidential information from their partnership company, which affected Daniel's interests. Isn't it normal for him to do these things?"
"Well..."
David couldn't refute this for a moment, but quickly said, "If it's just about getting back what's owed, then of course there's nothing wrong with that. But he could've just gone directly after the Johnson Group, right? Legally speaking, the Johnson Group is the one who stole the benefits. Even for compensation and stuff, he could've just demanded it from the Johnson Group... Why bother targeting the Brown family?
But this time, when Daniel made his move, he went straight for the Brown family's throat. Why is that? It's obviously because of Sophia!
And Sophia... as far as I know, has no grudges with the Wilson Group. Even if he wanted to vent about the theft, sending her away for a few days and getting compensation should've been enough.
Not to mention, she's already completely disgraced. There's no need to be this ruthless!"
Andrew hadn't thought about this before.
Now that David brought it up, it did make some sense.
His brow furrowed slightly as he fell into thought.
David pressed on, reminding him, "During Christmas, everyone's busy reuniting with family. At such a joyful and festive time, Sophia was released without charges, and the Johnson Group's compensation still hasn't come through. I'm guessing... Dr. Garcia isn't feeling too happy about it!"
Andrew fell silent.
During last night's video call, the deep gloom in Olivia's eyes was still vivid in his mind.
David wasn't done yet and continued muttering, "Dr. Garcia really has it rough. If it were me, I probably couldn't even eat! Michael is really something - bullying her throughout the marriage wasn't enough, and even after the divorce, he doesn't care whether Dr. Garcia lives or dies!
He'll save that thief at the drop of a hat, but he never seems to think about Bianca's future. Is his first love really more important than his own daughter?
Dr. Garcia and her daughter are just so pitiful!"
Andrew's frown deepened.
In front of him sat a cup of coffee, wisps of steam slowly rising from it, filling the air with its aroma.
It should have been a calming moment, but somehow he felt inexplicably irritated.
David's mind was working fast, and his mouth kept going, "Daniel standing up for Ms. Garcia is pretty obvious. I heard they've known each other for many years. When Daniel was in high school, he lived at his grandmother's house for a year, which happened to be in Ms. Garcia's hometown. Her parents even tutored Daniel back then. Near the end of college, they even started a business together. You can see how close they are."
Andrew had been listening for a while. His deep eyes fell lightly on David, his tone revealing no emotion as he said, "You seem to know quite a lot about her?"
David replied earnestly, "I didn't really dig into it specifically."
He just... sent someone to investigate, that's all!
After all, Olivia was the first person Andrew had treated specially.
Regardless of whether they'd make any progress in the future, as the most capable and "thoughtful" subordinate, he naturally needed to know everything about her.
And Daniel was definitely worth paying attention to.
He could be a hidden rival!
The guy was talented and good-looking, had ruthless tactics, came from a powerful background - definitely worth taking seriously.
As they were talking, Benjamin came in!
As soon as he entered, he said, "What are you guys talking about? Let me hear too?"
Both of them looked up at the sound, their expressions equally surprised.
"What are you doing here?"
"Mr. White, how come you're back in Harmony City?"
Benjamin plopped down in the chair across from Andrew and said, "Isn't that obvious? I came back to Harmony City for Christmas!"
David looked suspicious, "How many years has it been since you came back for Christmas? Why the change of heart this year? And what's with that outfit... what's going on?"
A formal suit with a pink shirt?
What kind of flashy getup was that???
David's expression was hard to describe.
Andrew's disdain was written all over his face, "What? Done being a teacher and thinking of becoming an escort instead?"
Benjamin dropped his usual gentle demeanor and clicked his tongue, "It's all my grandpa's fault! Last night at eight, he tricked me saying he fell down the stairs. I got so scared I immediately bought a plane ticket and flew back overnight. Guess what happened?
When I got home, he had several bodyguards with him, and they caught me! Not only did they lock me up all night, but this morning they forced me to go on a blind date. I barely managed to escape from there. Tell me if that's not ridiculous."
"Pfft..."
David laughed without any sympathy, "No wonder you reek of perfume!"
Andrew poured him a cup of coffee as consolation, but his eyes seemed to see through everything as he said, "He wants you to come back to Harmony City?"
Benjamin had just tilted his head back to take a sip. Hearing this, his movement suddenly froze. A few seconds later, he slowly swallowed and said, the casualness on his face fading somewhat, "How did you guess?"
Andrew's expression remained calm, "Nick White's fiancée is pregnant."
Benjamin looked surprised, then suddenly understood why his grandfather was in such a hurry.
He wanted him to produce an heir too.
He seemed uninterested, "But I'm not interested in business. I just want to be a psychology teacher!"
Andrew looked at him for a few seconds, his eyes so deep they seemed to see through everything, "In the White family's generation, you have the most business talent. No one can match you. Your grandfather obviously knows this."
Hearing this, Benjamin smiled, "That's rare, getting praise from you. But I... really don't want to join the White Group. The whole family getting along peacefully is nice! I don't want to upset my dad either!"
Andrew said nothing.
David also fell silent.
Although Benjamin was the eldest grandson of the White family, his position in the family was awkward. The reason was simple - his parents' marriage was something his mother had fought for.
Supposedly, before they got married, Benjamin's father already had a woman he loved. It was his mother who, relying on her good family background, forcibly took him.
Not long after Benjamin was born, his mother, out of jealousy, tried to kill that woman but accidentally fell into a river herself and drowned.
Later, his father got his wish and married the woman he loved.
Everyone outside congratulated the marriage, saying his mother deserved to die, that she got what she deserved.
Benjamin heard such words often and came to believe his mother was a bad woman... Carrying guilt toward his father in his heart, he hid his talents from a young age and yielded in everything.
Over the years, he only came back to Harmony City to see his grandfather, rarely returning otherwise.
Even David could see that Benjamin was intentionally distancing himself from the White family, wanting to atone for his mother's sins.
Andrew had wanted to say something.
But thinking about the circumstances of Benjamin's mother's death and the unclear grudges within the White family, he ultimately didn't speak up.
Never mind!
Let him have a peaceful Christmas first.
Once the evidence is confirmed, it won't be too late to talk.
Hopefully... the truth isn't what he thinks it is!
Perhaps because the topic was a bit heavy, Benjamin didn't want to continue and immediately changed the subject, "Enough about me. What were you guys talking about just now? I think I heard something about investigating..."
David's eyes lit up, and he didn't hide anything, "We were talking about Dr. Garcia, and that Mr. Wilson."
"Hmm?"
Benjamin raised an eyebrow, "I saw the news about Dr. Garcia too, but Mr. Wilson..."
If he remembered correctly, that was Dr. Garcia's business partner, right?
What was there to talk about?
David hinted like crazy, "Yeah, that business partner. I was just saying he seems to have special feelings for Dr. Garcia!"
