Chapter 162 Untouchable In The Club
Chapter 162 Untouchable In The Club
~Teyana’s POV~
The bass coming from the club speakers pounded straight into my chest like it was trying to knock me out. The smell of alcohol and smoke were next. I coughed once. The blinking lights weren’t my favorite thing about here either. But I was here for a purpose anyway- to have fun.
Carol squealed the moment we step inside.
“This is it!” she shouted over the speakers, gripping my wrist. “Tonight is going to be insane, T!”
I smiled, letting her pull me forward, letting the noise swallow my thoughts before they could organize themselves into something I didn’t want to go back to again- or at least tonight.
I was wearing a very short denim skirt. The type that barely covered anything. The matching denim bralette too was thin, fitted, and intentional. I bought this outfit weeks back with a very specific night in mind—One where Jeremy would look at me and lose all self-control. One where the air between us would snap, where he wouldn’t be able to resist me, where we’d disappear into somewhere dark and let him ruin me.
There hadn’t been time to plan that, not when it comes to Jeremy and me.
And now I was wearing it anyway.
“Look at you,” Carol said, eyes sweeping over me with approval. “You didn’t come to play.”
“Yeah, you said that before we left your place,” I say lightly, rolling my eyes at her.
She grinned, already dancing in front of me. She looked like a sinful temptress straight out of a Rihanna’s music video in that transparent red-very short dress she had on. She was very hot.
We hadn’t even been standing there for five minutes when someone stepped into my space.
He’s tall. Tattoos climbing his neck. Confident in the way men get when they’ve decided they want to try something.
“Damn,” he said, leaning close to the spot where I was standing. “You’re hot.”
I blinked, caught off guard, then smiled out of reflex.
“Thanks.”
“You wanna dance?” he asked, nodding toward the floor.
I glanced at Carol. She was watching us, eyebrows raised, lips twitching like this was entertainment. She nudged me with her elbow.
“Go,” she mouthed.
But I turned back to him and shook my head gently.
“I’m not in,” I said, still smiling.
His face fell just a little. “That’s sad.”
“I know,” I said, because politeness felt easier than explanation.
He shrugged and slipped back into the crowd.
Carol bursted out laughing and grabbed my arm, dragging me toward a quieter corner.
“What is wrong with you?” she yelled like she couldn’t believe I just rejected him. “That guy was fine.”
“Yeah,” I replied. “He was.”
“So why did you say no?”
I hesitated. “I just—”
“Just what?” she pressed.
The words tangled in my throat. I glanced down at myself, suddenly hyper-aware of how much skin I was showing, of how my cleavage sat proudly and unapologetically, of how exposed I felt under the lights and the hungry eyes of men in this club. Of course there were women who had worse on, but...
“I don’t know,” I admitted. “I just feel… weird.”
Carol rolled her eyes affectionately. “That’s the point. You said you wanted to be reckless tonight. You suggested it girl. And reckless didn’t mean- just waiting around the club and laughing.” She complained. “Get weird. Get wild. Forget everything for one night just like you wanted.”
I laughed softly because truly- those words did it for me.. “You make it sound easy.”
“It is,” she said. “Just…get in the act. Be a baddie for one night. I’ve got your back, bestie. School resumes tomorrow.” She laughed.
I exhaled, then nodded. “Okay. But I’ll need to get high first.”
She studied my face. “You sure? You will have an hangover by tomorrow morning.”
“Definitely. I will ditch the first day of school then. Carol smirked, impressed.
We ended up at the bar, cups multiplying between us. We drank. We laughed. We played stupid games that didn’t require thinking. Somewhere along the way, the edge dulled. My limbs loosened. My thoughts started slipping sideways instead of downward.
By the time I looked at Carol and said, “I wanna dance,” my voice sounded lighter than it had in weeks.
“Yes! That’s what I’m talking!” she shouted, already pulling me along.
The dance floor was hyper alive when we joined. I started moving slowly at first, then better. Freer. I whined, rolled my hips like I would do when no one was watching. I let the music take over.
“Go, T! Since when can you dance like this?” Carol yelled, hyping me up.
I laughed carefreely, spinning, my perfectly curled hair- flying and whipping them around. “Maybe I’ve always been able to.”
That was when someone tapped Carol’s shoulder.
“Hey,” he said. “Can I talk to your friend for a second?”
Carol glanced at me. “You good?”
I nod. “Yeah.”
She shrugged. “Go ahead.”
I turned—and it’s him. The same guy from earlier.
“Change your mind?” he asked.
I tilted my head, feeling bold. Thanks to the alcohol. “Maybe.”
“Can I dance with you?”
“It’d be my pleasure.”
He smiled, took my hand and kissed the back of it lightly.
“I’m Finn,” he introduced.
“Tey,” I replied, the name slipping out of my lips easily.
He chuckled. “That’s cool. Never heard it before.”
“It’s a nickname though,” I said, laughing. “A favorite person used to call me that- sorry, exxx-favorite person.”
I slurred slightly, laughing again- louder than necessary.
Finn nodded knowingly. “Yeah. I can tell you’re here to forget him, but still thinking about him.”
“Am I that obvious?”
“You’re drunk and talking about him,” he said, amused.
I laughed. “He’s not even worth it.”
“Really?”
I shrugged. “I just don’t get how one person can take up so much space in someone’s life. But it doesn’t matter now.” I gestured between us dramatically. “All I see is you…Finnnn.”
He grinned. “I like the drunk version of you. You were hostile earlier.”
We danced closer, and slower. His hands settled on my hips. I didn’t stop him.
I glanced around, suddenly realizing Carol wasn’t nearby. Then I spotted her near the DJ, leaning in and whispering into his ears.
It wasn’t long afterwards that the music switched.
A voice boomed through the speakers right after.
“The girl in denim and the guy with her- come to the stage.”
I blinked. “Wait—is that…me?”
Then my name echoed through the club- as if to provide an answer to my confusion.
“Teyana,” The stranger hypeman called my name like he had always known it. “Come to the center!”
My heart stuttered.
Carol rushed back, grabbed my arm, and leaned in. “Don’t fuck it up,” she whispered. “I paid a lot for this to be your moment.”
She winked and disappeared.
The crowd parted- for me and Finn. I heard Carol, but her voice sounded far away. Finn and the crowd in the club appeared in twos to me. Excitement slowly pushed itself in. I was getting tipsier by the second. The alcohol I had must have been the type that kicked in deeper with time.
Finn pulled me toward him. “Guess we’re doing this.”
“I guess we are,” I laughed breathlessly.
On stage, the lights felt hotter, the music heavier as ‘Bust down Senõrita by Blue face X Justin Timberlake’ started playing. Finn spun me, guided me, and I let go. I danced like I never had in public—twirling, flipping my hair, twerking, moving without restraint. I’d always been a great dancer. But had always shied away from dancing in public. Tonight was different. I was no longer the same person.
“Rock for me, gorgeous,” he murmured in my ear.
I giggled and did exactly that.
At some point when the music hitted deeper, I did the split thing on the floor- a move I had mastered in the corner of my room in my early teenage years while watching dancers on YouTube/ TV. The crowd cheered-roared. I heard Carol squeal- “That’s my girl!” Yeah, long gone was the nerdy me. I staggered as I came back up but Finn helped me, eyes spinning.
He jerked me to him and kissed my cheek, “You are so hot, Tey.” He said, and for a moment, I saw Jeremy in him as he leaned forward for gods know what. Finn- or was it Jeremy? Was going to kiss me. I didn’t move away. Our lips were inches apart. People were cheering.
But suddenly— a hit came from nowhere and Finn’s head jerked sideways. The crowd gasped. I did too as I watched blood spill from Finn’s nose.
“What the fuck?” someone shouted.
Before I could react- not able to comprehend the short exchange of words that just happened between them—Between who? I was getting tipsier by the minute. A hand clamped around my wrist and yanked me back, hard.
My heart dropped straight into my stomach.
I didn’t need to look.
I knew exactly who was dragging me away.
