  Alpha Alexander’s POV
I knelt beside Vanessa, the weight of the situation fully sinking in. The reality of having a baby at forty-two hit me like a tidal wave. I already had twenty-three-year-old children, and now I was about to start all over again. And with my children's best friend, no less. It felt surreal, almost unbelievable.
I stood up slowly, moved back to my chair, and sat down heavily. My mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. Joy, fear, confusion, and a hint of guilt battled for dominance. I glanced at Vanessa, her eyes still glistening with tears, and felt a surge of protective instinct. Yet, the implications of this new chapter were overwhelming.
"Are you okay?" Vanessa’s voice was tentative, pulling me from my spiraling thoughts.
I took a deep breath, trying to articulate the tumultuous emotions inside me. "I... I don't know how to feel," I admitted, my voice unsteady. "Having a baby at forty-two, when I already have twenty-three-year-old children... it's a lot to take in."
Vanessa nodded, understanding flickering in her eyes. "I know. It's not what either of us expected."
"And to have this baby with my children's best friend," I continued, shaking my head in disbelief. "I can't believe this is happening."
She bit her lip, her gaze dropping to the table. "I'm sorry, Alexander. I didn't mean for things to get so complicated."
I reached across the table, taking her hand in mine. "It's not your fault, little fox. Life has a way of throwing us curveballs. I just... I need some time to process all of this."
She squeezed my hand gently, a small, supportive gesture that helped anchor me. "We'll figure it out together," she said softly. "I know it's not going to be easy, but we have each other."
I nodded, grateful for her understanding. "Yes, we do. And I promise, I will be here for you and for our baby."
Despite my reassurances, the magnitude of the situation loomed large in my mind. I was about to become a father again, with all the responsibilities and challenges that entailed. And the fact that it was with Vanessa, someone so deeply intertwined with my children's lives, added an extra layer of complexity.
But as I looked at her, the strength of my feelings for her and the bond we shared began to steady my nerves. No matter how daunting the road ahead seemed, I knew that we would face it together. And that thought brought a measure of peace to my chaotic thoughts.
For now, that would have to be enough. One step at a time, we would navigate this new reality, and I would do everything in my power to ensure that our child was welcomed into a world filled with love and support.
As I sat in silence, trying to process the overwhelming reality of the situation, I felt a familiar presence stirring within me. Hunter, my wolf, was restless. I closed my eyes, allowing our connection to deepen, and felt his thoughts and emotions surge forward.
"Alexander," Hunter’s voice echoed in my mind, tinged with frustration and urgency. "You cannot let this paralyze you."
I sighed, acknowledging his presence. "I'm trying, Hunter. It's just a lot to take in. I'm forty-two, already have grown children, and now this... it's complicated."
Hunter’s growl resonated through me, a mix of exasperation and determination. "Complicated or not, Vanessa is carrying your child. Our child. You can't stop her from having more kids just because you already have yours."
His words hit hard, a brutal reminder of the responsibilities and realities I couldn't ignore. "I know that but never thought of it," I replied, feeling the weight of his expectations. "It's just... everything is happening so fast."
"Don't you dare use that as an excuse," Hunter snapped, his voice fierce. "If you mess this up with your useless attitude, I will leave you. Do you understand? I need my mate. We need our mate."
The intensity of his words shocked me. Hunter had always been my steadfast companion, but his desperation now was palpable. "Hunter..." I began, but he cut me off.
"No, Alexander. This is not just about you anymore. Vanessa and our child need us. You need to step up. You need to be the king I know you are."
I felt a deep sense of shame and resolve settle over me. Hunter was right. I couldn't afford to wallow in uncertainty. Vanessa and our unborn child needed me to be strong, to be present.
"You're right," I finally admitted, my voice steadier. "I can't let fear dictate my actions. Vanessa deserves better. Our child deserves better."
"Good," Hunter growled, his tone softening slightly. "Now, go to her. Show her that you are committed, that you are ready to face whatever comes. We are stronger together."
I opened my eyes, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. Hunter’s fierce loyalty and unwavering determination filled me with newfound clarity. I stood up, the weight of my doubts lifting slightly.
"Thank you, Hunter," I whispered, feeling his approving presence within me.
As I walked back towards Vanessa, I knew that I had to put my fears aside and embrace the future, uncertain as it might be. Hunter was right—Vanessa and our child needed me to be strong, to be the king they deserved. And I would not let them down.
