William's POV:
I mind-linked Rose. "I need you to stay by Rebecca's side for now while I take care of a problem down at the prison. Tell me once Rebecca wakes up, alright?"
She replied, "Okay, brother."
"Make sure you do not leave her side and wander off to your mate."
She laughed. “Yes, Brother."
When I opened the door, I looked at Rebecca one more time, and I headed down to see what happened using my wolf speed.
"What happened?" I shouted at the prison guard.
"The rogue that we just brought in is dead. He suddenly collapsed after he ate," the guard said.
I rushed over to the cell he was in and found him on the floor. Ryan was beside me, trying to figure out the reason behind his sudden death. He grabbed the bowl of soup and asked, "It seems like someone has put poison in his food."
I felt my anger rising, and I shouted at the guard, "Who cooked this?"
"I think it was our newest cook. She arrived not long ago," he said.
"Bring her to me immediately!" I said.
Ryan motioned to one of the guards, and he quickly fetched the cook. I was sitting on the chair, waiting for the cook, when I heard weeping echoing near the prison entrance.
"I didn't do anything wrong. Why are you taking me?" the cook said.
The guard brought her in front of me, and she kneeled.
"Did you serve food to the prisoner?" I asked.
She looked at the floor and said, "Yes…"
"The food that you cooked killed him. Because of you, we have lost a lead that may have been important," I said.
She cried, not believing what I said, and shook her head. "It couldn't be. I always try the food before I give it to the prison guard to serve them."
"Then explain how this happened or else I will kill you!"
"I don't know…"
"You better tell me something, or I swear to fucking god I'm going to kill you."
"Wait, Alpha William! I remember something. The guard that I passed the food to was acting weird. He kept on asking me to hurry up and seemed to be sneaking around the kitchen in the afternoon. Like he was looking for something," she told me.
"Do you remember him?"
"I couldn't really see his face because he was wearing a mask and a hat. When I asked him why he needed the mask, he said that he was sick and did not want to pass the germs to the people around him," she said.
"Okay, thank you for your cooperation. You can head back to the kitchen."
With that, she bowed her head in respect and left my sight.
I turned to Ryan. "Look through the surveillance camera and see whether you can get anything."
Ryan nodded his head in response. "Okay, I will go now and check."
I went back to the scene and checked if there was anything that Ryan missed. I checked the rogue's clothing and found nothing, but it seemed like he was holding something as he was clenching his fists.
I walked to his hand and unclenched his fists. There was a piece of paper there.
I took the note, and it stated the following:
"I'm watching you very closely. I will get her very soon."
I mind-linked everyone. "I want everyone to be on high alert. There seems to be someone watching our movements. All guards are to be on duty at all times, and if anyone notices any suspicious person, please tell me immediately. Everyone is to stay inside of the house, and if there is any emergency that you requires you to head out, please report to my Beta."
All of them respond to me, "Yes, Alpha William."
I didn't sleep for the whole day as I came up with plans to protect my sweet little angel from the bad ones who wanted her.
But for now, I would focus entirely on Rebecca's safety and find out who was the rat in the pack.
Rose's POV:
I watched as Rebecca's condition got better as she no longer had cold sweats, which was good.
I mind-linked my mate, Drake. "Come over to Rebecca's room. I have something to tell you."
He mind-linked me. "Okay."
Within seconds, he appeared in front of me. "What happened to Belle?"
I grabbed him and rested my head on my chest. "It's all because of me that she is like that."
I felt tears rolling down my cheeks, and Drake wiped away my tears. "How is this your fault? All this happened to both of you. She suffered a lot, but the good thing is that it brought the two of you closer than sisters."
"But if I had not run away from William, this would not have happened to her."
Drake ran his hand through my hair. "It is not entirely your fault. Blake is responsible for the reason why she left her pack, so don't blame yourself. What you can do now for her is to stay by her side and help her with her condition."
I nodded and hugedg him, grateful that he gave me advice. I was so thankful to Moon Goddess for having Drake as my mate because he was the second-best thing that had happened in my life after Rebecca.
Unknown POV:
I said to him on the phone, "You did a really good job. I will not do any harm to your sister as long as you listen to me. One mistake, and I will kill your sister mercilessly. Do you understand?"
He said, "Yes, sir."
I hung up the phone and said to my righthand man, "Have you found anything to surprise her?"
"Yes, Master."
I smiled evilly. “Explain it to me."
