Chapter 81 THE ESCAPE PLAN
THE ESCAPE PLAN
AMBER’S POV
The suspense was killing me. I needed to be with my family immediately, and the more I stayed here, the more worried I became because I didn’t know how they were faring. The letter had not only been an attack on my mother, but it was a warning of more things to come, things I knew I would end up regretting if I didn’t act on it.
“What do I do?” I murmured, all ideas leaving me.
I had no friends here, and even if I did, I knew that I couldn’t just divulge everything to them because, as far as I was concerned, no one was my friend here, no one.
I was becoming increasingly depressed about everything that was happening. My pack was in great unrest, but at that moment, it just felt like I was helpless to do anything, and the fact that if Derek ever got to know about this, he wouldn’t mind destroying the whole pack due to his deep hatred for them.
I looked up suddenly to see Fauna walking towards me. She was the only one in the entire pack I could still trust on certain things, and if there was anyone who would have a solution for me, then it had to be her.
“Are you okay?” she asked, coming to sit beside.
“I’m not okay, you can see that, right?” I said, desperation evident in my voice.
She sighed, taking my hands in hers. I was surprised about this because I didn’t think she would go as far as doing this, but apparently, it looked like she had my best interest at heart.
“Talk to me, what’s the matter?” she said.
I didn’t even know where to begin, but if I needed to get out of this and to find a lasting solution, then I think it was high time I confided in someone, more specifically her. Ever since I got to this pack, she had never once treated me like a disease; instead, treating me better than how everyone else did, and for that, I was grateful.
“It’s kind of complicated.” I began.
“But at least not as complicated as you are not telling, right?”
I heaved, expelling all the pent-up emotions I had felt since all of this began. I opened up at that moment, telling her everything that my pack had faced in the hands of Derek. Surprise was written all over her face, even though I had no idea why this was so. He was their Alpha after all, and everything he did shouldn’t be a surprise to them, but apparently it was.
“And telling him is definitely not an option. I need to keep them away from him as much as possible because if he decides to face them, his wrath is something that can never be contained.”
“I don’t believe this,” she said.
“You have to believe this. That is the internal battle I’ve been fighting since, and Derek and even Damien are cross with me because they think that I am hiding things from them.”
“Well, technically, you are Amber. Your refusal to tell them what’s going on with you is even worse than whatever it is Derek would do.”
“I know, but that’s not the point,” I said.
“Then what is the point? Let me know so I can know how to help you.”
I stared at her, trying to find any hint of her joking, but the expression on her face was dead serious. She wasn’t messing with me, and I realized if she could do this for me, I would forever be indebted to her.
“I have to get home to my family,” I said.
“And to do that, you need to get away from Derek and by extension this pack, right?”
“Yes, I need to get home to them. I might not be able to offer much help, but there is nothing like my presence being there, supporting them as we try to pass through all of this that was happening all at the same time.” I said.
She looked around then, trying to see if anyone was eavesdropping, but there was no one. The nearest person was beside a tree, and that was several meters away from us.
“So here’s what’s going to happen. I will help you escape, and we are going to do it my way,” she said, lowering her voice.
“Really? You really want to help me?” I asked, disbelief written all over my face.
“Yes, based on what you’ve told me, even if you did tell Derek about it, I don’t think he would even help you to begin with.”
I knew she was right. Ever since I had come into this pack, Derek had displayed nothing but how much he hated my pack and, by extension, hated me here. He was the last person I would ever tell my plans to because I knew that would even be worse. He would put my family to death faster than I could say my name, and that was the last thing I would ever allow to happen to them.
“But you need to be careful. It’s no news that Derek doesn’t want you here, but at this point, there is nothing any of us can do. We can only take the bull by the horns and hope that none of this gets back to haunt us,” she said.
“He hates me so much and my pack, I don’t know how I’m going to bring peace, but I know I need to try even if it means going to the pack,” I said.
“Then you need to leave at night. Usually, the guards are rotated every hour at night. I know the one on duty today, and I can help you escape through him. He likes me, and would do anything for me, so you don’t have to be worried about this coming back to you.”
I couldn’t believe she was doing this for me when she had no obligation towards me, but here she was, helping me regain even if it was just a temporary freedom. I was going to grab every opportunity that came, and t
his, this was just the beginning.
