Rebeca
The twins' birthday was coming up and the children couldn't agree on the theme. Valentina wanted to be the princess, of course, and Arton wanted to be an astronaut. How could I be the leader of a huge pack like mine and not be able to peacefully agree on the birthday party decorations? I was going to ask my mother-in-law for help as soon as he arrived. If Loren managed to raise four boys, a couple should be a piece of cake for her.
I heard the horn sound and the children ran past me. Noah came to get me, worried about me going down the stairs in my state. It's not like I didn't go down those stairs twenty times a day.
"Did you manage to convince him to be a knight or a dragon?" I asked my partner. “He mentioned the same difficulties Valentina said about being a space princess… I give up, can we make two decorations and let the guests walk from one end to the other? I can’t stand arguing with them anymore, I give in.” Noah was exhausted, but learning to share, to give in and to make peaceful agreements was part of an alpha’s routine and alp children should learn from an early age.
“No way, Noah, I’ll let your mother try a little, there must be a way.”
There they were, the old alpha couple, who didn’t look more than 50 years old, despite being 80. Tod came to hug me first, while Loren kissed Noah, being held by Arton and Valentina, one in each hand.
When Loren came to me, I hugged her almost in tears. “Oh, mother Loren, I’ve been wanting your help so much, I’ll need to talk to you for at least half an hour, as soon as you’re settled in and rested from the trip.”
Loren looked at me and sniffed me. “If it’s about what I’m sensing, let’s talk about it now, dear, my grandchildren first.”, she laughed.
Noah and Tod went inside with the bags and the children. Some castle staff helped them. I asked them to serve refreshments for all of us on the inner balcony.
The children started discussing the birthday and Tod sat down to talk to them about alpha agreements, maybe he would get something.
Loren took my arm and we went for a walk in the garden.
“Tell me, dear, what do you need to tell me, if I have a good sense of smell, your scent has changed. Is that what I think?”, she winked.
“Yes, mother Loren, we’re going to have another puppy and now I’m going to go crazy because I can barely sort out the birthday party for the two of them, they’ve been fighting for days about the decorations and I can’t, not even Noah, get them to come to an agreement!”
“Well, maybe everything they need is already coming. Arton and Valentina are the first children, the first grandchildren and nephews. They had to share everything from an early age, your attention, their father’s, the parties, the room… Now they will have a second brother, with a different age and different tastes, so maybe they will learn to grow up without competing and start to cooperate with each other to get what they want, nothing more than your attention.”
“How did you manage to manage your four children?”, I asked anxiously. “It was different, each one came in a different year, and they had their own birthday date, at least that.”
“Wow, I had never thought of it that way. What if we had a party over two days? And each year we could switch who has their birthday first?” Loren smiled, “We can suggest it to them and let them make the decision. Maybe they will try it and not like it or even suggest something new, but it is their day, they should be able to choose at least on that day.”
“Yes, and I’m thinking about giving each of them a room. Maybe that will help them find their own personalities. One day they would have to have a separate room.” “Well, do you have any more ideas about how to solve it? Is there anything else I can do for you?” Loren asked. “Could you talk to them and let me sleep a little? Pregnancy makes me sleepy a lot.” We both laughed. Loren The children came running to see what was happening. “Noah, take Rebeca to get some rest. Tod and I are going to talk about the birthday decorations. Either we decide today or we won’t have time, kids, to organize everything for the party.” “Yes, it’s going to be a rocket in space!” Arton said. “No! It’s going to be the castle of the princess who was kidnapped by the dragon.” Valentina complained. Luna Loren, like a good grandmother, patted them both on the head and sat down. “Children, can we negotiate? What do you think about having two parties instead of just one day of celebration?” We can have the Princess Party on Saturday and the Astronaut Party on Sunday. What do you think?”
“But we always celebrate together!” said Valentina. “I like to blow out the candles with my sister,” said Arton.
“And you can do it together two days in a row, just change the decorations, one day for one, the other for the other,” said Tod.
“It’s cool to be twins if we can have two different parties,” said the clever Arton. “Yes, and our friends will like it too, we’ll have double the cake and sweets!” concluded Valentina.
