Chapter 21: That Promised Kiss (part II)

****James

“I didn't say I would kiss your mouth.” warned. I slapped my free hand against a strand of hair and placed it behind her shoulder, exposing a part of her neck that I eagerly aimed at.

Despite the layer of sweater, I felt her tiny breasts adhere to my chest, fitting together as perfectly as two pieces of the same puzzle. Brooke's height, much smaller than mine, didn't allow our hearts to beat against each other, yet they managed to meet in a single beat, equalizing in a single palpitation.

I moistened my lips and placed them above her collarbone, victoriously enjoying the scent of her skin that danced harmoniously along with the sigh I drew from her, and that sang a surrender that Brooke still couldn't accept.

And maybe not even to understand. Her proven inexperience when it came to men was manifested by the tremor that shook her from the tip of her toes to the strand of hair that I had placed behind her shoulder. And she burst into a moan that at first I mistook for emotion, but I soon realized it was surprise.

If, on the one hand, there were no words written in any dictionary in the world to prepare her for everything I wanted to do to her. On the other hand, I knew that my actions carried the responsibility of teaching her to accept the signals that her body was receiving.

Although she tried to suppress them, the evidence that they would sooner or later escape her control could be seen in the way she suddenly forgot to oppose me.

I took advantage of her momentary surrender to get my body used to her scent. Even though I had been in close contact with her for two whole days, the beast inside me growled hungrily, anticipating the moment when it would attack that small body that represented the salvation of the entire pack.

I remembered the faces of each of my companions, the puppies who were about to finish training and those who were still too young to leave the supervision of their mothers, my father and finally Dimitri.

Each face carried a wealth of memories and experiences that enriched mine and upon which the future destiny of my people rested.

The beast calmed down. I groaned, dissatisfied, and let my human side override any instinct. The urge to throw her on the floor and make her mine disappeared. Not much, but enough to avoid the worst.

“I think that's enough.” I moved my lips against her collarbone. “Do not you think?”

My voice had the power to awaken all opposition in her. She nodded frantically and tried to take a step back, inadvertently turning her face toward mine and causing our lips to barely touch in what could have been the precursor to a kiss.

“You're not smiling anymore.” I pointed out, without any irony.

“You, Mr. Farrow, would kill even a clown's smile.” here comes the stubborn little girl who turned against me again.

“I would like to remind you that my mouth is still very close to yours.” I threatened, although I had no intention of kissing her, at least not yet.

It was certainly unthinkable that she would fall at my feet like any other woman, eager to get even more than I wanted to give. But I wanted to postpone the moment when I would have to steal that kiss she denied me. A small but not insignificant part of my pride wanted our first kiss to be wanted by both of us.

I released her and as I expected, she jumped back, almost tripping over a branch in her rush to get away.

“You are rude. I can't wait to go home and see how I'm going to tell my dad everything. Oh, you'll see!”

She backed away again, and I had to force myself not to intervene to support her with each step… since with each step she was in danger of falling to the ground. However, despite the clumsiness resulting from the anger of the moment, she remained proud and proud. A kitten who thought she was a wolf.

“You will see!” she reiterated, turning around.

As soon as she turned her back to me, I finally managed to relax, clenching in a desperate attempt not to burst out laughing. I didn't want to humiliate her in any way, on the contrary, her bad mood was a characteristic that I greatly appreciated. What made me laugh was the threat itself, much to my advantage, as I was more than willing to meet her parents to inform them that I would be taking their daughter with me.

Her threat would only have opened the way for me, announcing the moment in which she would introduce me to her father as her future son-in-law.

The fact that I gave her a few days to get used to me didn't mean that I was going to postpone the moment when I introduced her to the pack as my future companion.

It was time to speed things up and her anger, mixed with impulsiveness, was only making things easier for me.
