17. Everybody has a beef with Garrett Ward

"For reasons like these, I never come to these places." He commented while people were still celebrating the big bonus they had won that night. They could drink as much as they wanted today, as they wouldn't pay the bill. Garrett was so crazy that he was letting this happen.

"Then why did you come?" I answered his speech, not being able to hold back; it was the first time I spoke directly to him since he arrived here at the club. I wanted my voice to come out tighter and more commanding, but it came out with just a weak thread, which frustrated me. Just when I thought Garrett definitely hadn't heard what I said, he responded.

"I needed to talk to you." I looked at him in disbelief. After all this time, how dare he? My friend got between me and Garrett.

"She doesn't need to talk to you; she's not your babysitter anymore. So make sure you leave her alone before I call the police." Sue threatened. Garrett looked at me, and for the first time, his face took on a surprised expression.

"Is it true that you resigned?" He asked me, completely ignoring my friend, and I couldn't answer anything. I just took a drink in my lap and poured it all down my throat, and on top of that, I asked for another drink.

"Hey, if you want to say something, say it to me, not her!" My friend is still protecting me.

"I have no interest in you; please get out of my way." He told Sue, who laughed sarcastically.

"Aren't you interested? You're kidding me, you cocky idiot!" Sue wanted to go after Garrett, all mad, but I held her and pulled her away from him.

"Calm down, friend. Don't get excited." Asked.

"Don't get me worked up? Did you hear what that clown was saying? Who does he think he is here, this arrogant son of a bitch?" She was already screaming, trying to get free to go on top of Garrett, but I wouldn't let her.

"Is there a problem here?" Rick also showed up, ready to beat up Garrett the first chance he got.

"Don't interfere, bartender." Garrett also wouldn't close his damn mouth. Rick frowned and was already approaching, but I didn't let him.

"Please, lets all calm down. Okay?" I ordered, although the three were already changed. "Rick, thanks for trying to help, but right now you really don't need to." I asked the bartender to ease up a bit with a slight nod, and I turned to my friend. "Sue, I'm going to go outside and talk to him."

"But friend..." she tried to stop me.

"It's okay, Que. I won't be long; it'll be quick." I nodded slightly to make sure I was okay. Sue sighed and then nodded too.

"Okay, be careful." She spoke, and I smiled a little at her. I looked at Garrett, and soon after, without saying anything, I went towards the outside of the club, knowing that he would be following me right behind me.

There was a rather dark and little-used alley at the back of the club. I didn't want to take Garrett to the entrance of the club because there were too many people there, and as soon as they recognized him, everyone would make a complete scene, harassing him just for who he was. So I took him to that little-used place, and I turned to face him now.

"These clothes are not appropriate for going to a club." I spoke, although not exactly what I wanted to say; his clothes were the last thing that really interested me.

"I wasn't planning to come to this club; I just got back from London, so I came right after you." Had he immediately gone after me as soon as he arrived in York? What did that mean? What did he want me to think with those words of his? I closed my eyes, feeling a little dizzy, maybe because the drink I just ingested was having an effect on my body.

"You can go away, Mr. Ward. I don't want to talk to you right now." I answered without looking at him.

"When will you want to talk to me?" He insisted quickly, and I laughed without much humor.

"I have no idea; I wanted to talk to you that morning when you left me… but now that I don't know, I may never talk to you again." I spoke without any taste in my words.

"Lily, love…" I felt his hand caressing my cheekbone, and I looked at him in surprise. He had called me love?

"What are you talking about? Why are you calling me love?" I almost yelled at him.

"I'm sorry, you look too cute; I'm trying to concentrate." He spoke so low; his voice was thick and heavy, and by God, that was complete madness. He approached me a little more; now that his body was inches from mine, it was as if an invisible and strong force of attraction was pulling me closer and closer to him.

"You can't just come back here and say those things." I almost cried; there were so many mixed feelings that I didn't know what to do. Why was this man doing these things to me? "You hurt me too much; that's not right. You have to stay away from me, as far away as possible." I said that, but I was the one who was moving my body closer and closer to his. Because of the high heels I was wearing, my head hit Garrett's chin, and I only had to lift my face to bring my lips to his that were parted. With his heavy gaze looking at me with such lechery, it was clear how much he wanted to grab me and kiss me.

"You are right. I'll do whatever you want; I just needed to come to you myself. I don't even know what I'm doing here; actually, I'm already on my way out." He took his eyes off my mouth and was about to leave, but I stopped him. I grabbed his shoulders and brought my lips to his in a kiss. Unexpected. I didn't want to think about what I was doing; my whole mind could only be completely flooded by him and the sensation of that kiss. I clumsily invaded his mouth with my tongue, wanting so much, that he corresponded and kissed me ardently. My small arms hugged his shoulders, pulling him closer to me as I got drunk on him, and although Garrett took a few seconds to respond, he returned my kiss in the best possible way.
