299 - Epilogue

299 - Epilogue
Ruby LeBlanc

There is an ancient prophecy that says a she-wolf would be born under the sign of the ancestors. Her eyes will reflect the moonlight as if it were liquid silver, and her destiny will be intertwined with the fragile balance between nature and the world of men. This she-wolf will be the one to unite the scattered clans and restore the lost harmony between humans and all the mystical creatures that have hidden from the persecution of the Sanctus Justitia.

I listen to this story passed down from my grandmother, Jade, to my mother, Agatha, whom everyone once believed to be our reborn Goddess. But the pain of losing my uncle Axel ended up leading my mother away from the path she was meant to follow.

"Sweetheart, why are you still out here?" I heard her gentle and soft voice coming from behind me.

I looked back and saw the woman I love most in this life approaching. I was standing before the lake where our Goddess reveals herself, and something inside me knew that something was coming.

"I'm coming, Mom..." I said as I looked at the copper-haired woman who came closer and sat beside me.

"Kesha believes you're nervous. Is something going on?" she asked while studying me carefully.

"Your wolf sees too much..."

"Don’t try to fool her. Kesha knows when you’re lying."

I heard Artemis speaking inside me.

"Just because I let pain consume me doesn’t mean I lost my connection with our Goddess," I said.

"I'm not nervous. I'm just... concerned." I deflected.

Bringing this up is dangerous for my mother, and I know that if I say anything about what I plan to do, my parents will send me to my grandparents’ house in Oslo. And right now, I can’t be sent to Norway. If I end up in the pack where my grandfather Aslan is the Alpha, I’m certain I’ll have a ball and chain locked around my ankle.

"Concerned about what?" she asked.

I turned and looked straight into her eyes.

I could see my mother’s eyes probing me, just as I could see Kesha’s, who clearly knew I was up to something. But it’s time to seek vengeance against the Bishops who killed my uncle. Who broke my grandparents’ hearts.

"I just turned seventeen. I’m thinking about what I should study!" I said with a smile.

"Forgive me for lying, Mom. But tomorrow, I board the Chinese ship headed for America, and I will bring vengeance to our family."

I was trained by every protector in our clan, what could possibly happen to me out there?

Even though I’ve chosen a false name, Lessie, and made up a silly story about being taken from my city, I’m sure I’ll be able to blend in among humans without any trouble.

And with that, I eased my mother’s mind and her wolf’s, even though my own was telling me that Kesha hadn’t fully bought the story.

"We’ll kill everyone on the list!"

Artemis said as I looked back at the reflection of our Goddess in the lake. I smiled and rested my head on my mother’s shoulder, saying goodbye to her silently, even if she didn’t know about my plans.

But as I gazed at the horizon, something pulled at me, like the scent of tobacco and alcohol mixed in an enclosed space. I took a deep breath and felt my wolf lie down with her paws tucked beneath her, as if waiting for something she longed for.

I don’t know what awaits me out there, but I pray to the Goddess Selene to protect me and help me kill as many as I can.

… To be continued.

To everyone who has read this story, which has been eagerly awaited by my most loyal readers. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

For the epilogue, you posted...

Too many questions, aren't there?

I recommend you read Penance at the Altar. It's not Ruby's story yet, but you'll get an idea of what her story is like. This will give me time to write the trilogy, in which I'll tell you all about the LeBlanc's.

I hope you enjoy and comment a lot as you get to know Bishop Benjamin and his little devil, Camila.
