Chapter 24 Ariel...
Chapter 24 Ariel...
Lilith’s POV
That night, I could barely get any sleep. I rolled from side to side, wondering what was going to happen if things went sideways. I never bargained for any of this and the fact that Jayden looked so relaxed about it all was frustrating.
Mr. Lark was a scary and intimidating man and there was this thought inside of me that no matter how hard we tried to act, he was going to notice something was off about his daughter. But with Jayden’s confidence, I had no option but to act cool.
By morning, I didn’t run off to the hospital like last time. Instead, I stayed in bed and rotted away until Jayden woke up. The way he sleeps so good with so many things going on around him was a case that needed to be studied. How does a man who claims to own three companies sleep this well?
Although Jayden had assured me Ariel was going to be fine for the said period of two days, I was still worried because she was still a kid and might get sad at my absence.
When I couldn’t wait for Jayden to wake up anymore, I had my morning routine, before heading downstairs for breakfast.
About thirty minutes later, I went back to the room to see Jayden awake already but we didn’t speak to each other. I walked to the window and stared outside, wondering if Ariel was truly going to be fine.
What if he just lied to get me to give him my full attention? For all I knew, Jayden was an asshole who liked to take advantage of others.
He left the room and by the time he came back, I was restless and pacing around the room.
“What's going on?” He asked as he entered the room, holding a folder.
“Ariel,” I said.
“And what about her?” He asked.
“What if she’s not okay?” I asked, letting out my worries. “I know you said you had it under control but how do I know she’s doing okay? What if you are lying and this is a punishment to teach me a lesson?”
I expected him to maybe lash out at me again for saying he was a liar but instead, Jayden said nothing. He walked to the dresser, picked up his phone and dialed a number, before putting it on speaker and walking to me.
When the person answered, I recognized the voice to be the doctor’s voice and my mood lightened up immediately.
“Hello, this is Kensington Hospital, how may I help you?” The voice answered.
“This is Mr. Smith,” Jayden replied.
We heard some shuffling and the doctor spoke up again, but this time his tone was more friendly. “Mr. Smith, it’s lovely to hear from you again.”
Jayden handed his phone to me and I took it eagerly.
“Hi, uhm, how is my sister doing?” I asked.
“She’s doing pretty good and she’s responding to treatments as well,” he replied, making me relax immediately.
“Did she ask after me? I know she might get scared if she doesn’t see me around her,” I said.
“She did ask after you but it was only once. She has been sleeping for the past few hours, which is helping her recover faster and even if you were by her side right now, she wouldn’t notice,” he informed me.
“That's good news,” I breathed, throwing a glance at Jayden’s way. He was looking at me a little too intently. “Alright, thanks for the information,” I said and then handed the phone back to Jayden.
“Take good care of her, we will come to get her soon,” Jayden said and the doctor responded positively. When the call ended, I was fully relaxed.
“Happy now?” Jayden asked as he returned his phone to the dresser.
“Yes,” I said, smiling at him. “Thank you so much.” Maybe he isn’t so bad like I thought.
“Save it. I’ve gotten the layout for the Larks' home, we need to study it as soon as possible,” he said, his tone cold.
My smile drained from my face immediately as I took back my warm thoughts. Anytime I attempted to show him a bit of my soft and feminine side, he always made me regret my action.
Asshole.
I collected the file from him and took a look at the contents. I didn’t know how he got his hands on such useful information but hell, it was detailed, with detailed labels to make the understanding process easier. It was a house, not a mansion, but it was one hell of a big house. It showed every part of the house, even highlighting the little garden at the back of the house. There was also a little pool beside the house that wasn't functioning.
While I was going through the building layout, Jayden handed me another document and when I checked, it was detailed information about the Lark family. Every single one of them was here, like a family tree.
Celine has three siblings and their mom was late. Two of her siblings were not in the country and the third one was in the country but she didn’t have a good relationship with Celine.
When I read further, I realized Celine was indeed a troublemaker. She was not at peace with any of her siblings and she rebelled at the slightest chance. It explained why the father was cold towards her as well.
The document was pretty detailed as well, containing their names, favorite things to do, favorite food and the likes.
“How did you get all these?” I asked when I couldn’t keep mute anymore. Even an FBI agent wouldn’t get this kind of information in just a couple of hours.
“Is that what you should be concerned about?” Jayden snapped. “Study the tool you have and refrain from asking me mindless questions.”
“Asshole,” I muttered as I continued reading.
“What did you say?” I heard him ask.
“Nothing, I was just reading out loud,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“Good.”
