Leaving Again

Life with Adrian had been peaceful. I woke up to him in bed with me. His eyes stuck on me as if I were a painting.
The first time it happened, I was a bit weirded out.
“Did you sleep?”
That was the first question I had asked the first morning I woke up in his arms. He had held onto me tightly as his body shielded my eyes away from the morning sun.
“I did.”
“Then how long have you been awake?”
“Long enough to look at you till my hearts content”
“That’s creepy you know”
“Am I creepy to you baby?”
Funny enough, he wasn’t. I actually found it endearing. I climbed out of bed and he followed suit which meant he was just waiting for me to wake up first.
And it became our norm. He wouldn’t leave the bed until I opened my eyes. Even when he had a busy day ahead. Once I had woken up in the afternoon. I was shocked that he was still in bed with me.
And I was pretty sure I could recall he had a meeting that morning. I asked him about it and he said he cancelled the meeting.
Since then, I tried to wake up earlier so I could stop him from pausing his everyday activities just to accompany him in bed.
Of course he found about it two days later. And of course it didn’t end well.
“Do you think a few hours of you asleep are going to ruin my company? If my people can’t keep that company running without my presence, then there’s no need of me to keep them with me.
This was the protocol until two weeks officially passed and I was to set out to Korea to start filming for my movie.
Adrian’s clinginess became even more apparent with each day to my departure grew closer.
“Must you go? Am I not doing enough to keep you here with me? I can tell the directors to switch the location.”
“You just want me to stay with you. That’s all”
“Is that so wrong? I want you with me. I can’t sleep if you are not there. I swear”
His whining made me laugh as I walked to the bathroom to pick up the remaining essentials I needed.
And just like that, I was good to go. Except for the German shepherd in form of a human standing on the bathroom door. Attempting to block my way from leaving.
“How about a deal? If I win, you get to stay with me everyday and my private jet takes you to Korea every single day in the morning and returns in the evening. But if you win you can do anything you want. Agreed?”
“Come on Adrian. This is childish, even for you”
I laughed as I lightly hit his shoulder and walked past him. Leaving him sucking behind me.
I didn’t know how to define this new stage in our relationship. We weren’t dating. But we aren’t just sex partners bound by a contract anymore.
I decided not to stress myself by overthinking so I shoved the thoughts away and picked up my purse.
“I’m going to miss you”
His voice came out low and I turned to see him looking lost. That made me realize that he wasn’t playing or trying to palacate me. He genuinely didn’t want me to leave.
And I wasn’t going to lie. I already miss him even when he was still standing in front of me. I was going to miss his face being the first I see each morning.
I walked to him and sat beside him as I held onto his arm.
“You know I need to do this.”
“I know. But I can’t help but understand why. I can give you anything you want. Money, power, influence. Name it and it’s yours”
His eyes held a solemn vow. But I had my own reasons.
“But there’s the joy of getting it all on my own. The thrill and enjoyment that came with it. That’s what I aim for.”
There’s was one more reason I didn’t include. To prove his family wrong. To stand beside him with my head held up high. By my self. Not because someone else helped me.
“I understand. But I want you to promise me something.”
“What’s that?”
“You will be careful every single time. Be around people you know and trust. If you are going to an unfamiliar place or location, drag Nicholas with you. That’s what he’s there for. Tell me everything you need. Is that clear baby?”
“Nicholas would have other things to do than to babysit me.”
“Bullshit! Why did I make him the male lead then!”
Wait a damn minute…
“YOU made him the male lead?”
His expression froze as he gazed at me. As if I had caught him in a grand scheme of things that I wasn’t allowed to know of.
“Why did you do?” My voice came out sternly as he drew back and poured which made me almost laugh if not for the situation at hand.
“I didn’t do much”
“Start talking”
I stood up and walked to his front and looked down at his figure. Our height difference was that much that I didn’t even have to bend my neck that much to look at his face.
“I just pulled him away from three reality shows, seven brand endorsements and two movies”
“What the fuck?!!”
“Calm down baby. I paid for the breach of contract not him”
“That doesn’t help it” I facepalmed myself as I thought of what Nicholas must have gone through dumping all those movies and coming to shoot a movie simply because his uncle needed a babysitter.
I wanted to shout and yell and scream. But looking at the face before me made it hard to do. I understood him as well.
“Don’t try this shit again, okay? He has a life you know”
“Either Nicholas or you have at least five bodyguards trailing behind you at every turn and curve”
“Nicholas it is”
I knew he was serious with the bodyguards as I had noticed the men who stealthily followed me around Shanghai. But I would never breathe a word about it.
“Promise me baby. You will be safe in Korea.”
“I promise”
“Good girl”
He drew me close as his lips captured mine in a sweet kiss.
Our kisses were beginning to feel different. And it was the good type of different.
“Ich Liebe Dich”
He whispered in my ears as he placed a kiss on my forehead.
How was I going to survive alone without him?
