Chapter 65: Marcus
Enora slowly blinked her eyes open, the warmth of the morning sun filtering through the curtains and casting a soft glow over the room. As consciousness returned to her, she became aware of the weight of the bodies beside her, the steady rise and fall of their chests as they slept peacefully beside her. She turned her head slightly, her gaze falling on the sleeping forms of Lucas and Adam, their features softened by the light of dawn. A small smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she watched them sleep.
With a heavy sigh, Enora gently extricated herself from the tangle of limbs, careful not to disturb the sleeping forms of her lovers as she slipped out of bed. She padded quietly across the room, the cool wood of the floor soothing against her bare feet as she made her way to the kitchen. In the kitchen, the first thing that Enora did was to get her coffee fix. While she waited for the coffee to brew, she glanced around the room, taking in the familiar sights and sounds of the mansion, the sense of home settling over her like a comforting blanket.
Her gaze lingered on the figure sleeping on the couch in the living room, a pang of sadness tugging at her heart as she watched Sebastian slumbering peacefully. Despite everything that had happened between them, despite the hurt and anger that still simmered beneath the surface, Enora couldn’t help but feel a twinge of compassion for him. A feeling that her anger was getting less. She knew that he had made mistakes, but so had she. She knew that both of them were hurting.
With a heavy heart, Enora turned away from the sight of Sebastian sleeping on the couch, her thoughts turning instead to the task at hand. She needed to focus on moving forward, on finding a way to heal the wounds that had been inflicted on their relationship. Enora shook her head and pushed her thoughts aside. Enora set about preparing herself a quick breakfast, the rhythmic motions of cooking soothing her frayed nerves as she lost herself in the familiar routine. She ate in silence.
After she had finished eating, Enora made her way to Grace’s cabin, though she felt slightly anxious about what she would find when she opened the door. She knocked softly, her pulse quickening as she waited for a response. Moments later, the door swung open, revealing Grace standing on the other side, a warm smile lighting up her face. “Enora, darling, come in.”, Grace said, her voice filled with warmth as she ushered Enora inside. “It’s so good to see you.”
Enora returned Grace’s smile, a sense of relief flooding through her as she stepped into the familiar surroundings of the cabin. “It’s good to see you too, Grace.”, she said, her voice soft with gratitude. “How are you feeling?”
Grace chuckled softly, her eyes twinkling with amusement as she settled into a chair beside Enora. “Oh, I’m feeling much better now that I’m back in my own cabin.”, she said, her tone light with humor. “There’s nothing like being surrounded by familiar surroundings to lift one’s spirits.”
Enora nodded in agreement, her gaze drifting around the cabin as she took in the cozy interior. “I’m glad to hear that.”, she said, her voice sincere. “You’ve been through a lot, Grace. I’m just glad you are safe.”
Grace reached out and squeezed Enora’s hand, her touch warm and reassuring. “Thank you, dear. It means a lot to me.”, she said, her voice soft with emotion. “But enough about me. How are you holding up? I heard about what you did for the pack.”
Enora’s expression softened as she thought about the events of the past days. “I’m doing...okay, I guess.”, she said, her voice tinged with uncertainty. “It’s been a lot to process, but I’m trying to take things one day at a time.”
Grace nodded sympathetically, her eyes filled with understanding. “It’s perfectly normal to feel overwhelmed after everything that’s happened.”, she said, her tone gentle. “But you’ve shown incredible strength and resilience. The pack is lucky to have you as their Luna, dear.”, Grace said kindly.
As they talked and laughed, Enora couldn’t shake the feeling of optimism that bubbled up inside her. But then, as Grace began to talk about her son, Marcus, Enora’s thoughts came screeching to a halt. “Wait, you have a son?”, she blurted out, surprise evident in her voice.
Grace chuckled softly at Enora’s reaction, her eyes twinkling with amusement. “Yes, dear, I do. His name is Marcus.”, she said, her tone affectionate. “He’s been away for quite some time, but he is finally coming back to Moonlit.”
Enora felt a pang of embarrassment wash over her at her own ignorance. “I had no idea you had a son, Grace. I’m sorry.”, she said, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. “I guess there’s still a lot I don’t know about the pack.”
Grace reached out and squeezed Enora’s hand. “There is no need to apologize, dear. Marcus has been away for quite some time, and I haven’t had much opportunity to talk about him.”, she said, her voice gentle. “But now that he’s coming back, I’m sure you’ll get to know him soon enough.”
Enora nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of curiosity bubbling up inside her. “I’d like that. I’d like to meet him.”, she said, her voice eager. “What’s he like?”
Grace smiled warmly at Enora’s questions, her eyes shining with affection. “Marcus is a wonderful young man. He’s kind, caring, and incredibly talented.”, she said, her voice filled with pride. “He’s always had a passion for medicine, which is why he decided to become a doctor.”
Enora’s interest was piqued at Grace’s words, her curiosity growing with each passing moment. “A doctor? That’s impressive.”, she said, her voice filled with admiration. “I had no idea.”
Grace nodded, a proud smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “Yes, dear. Marcus has always had a gift for healing, both physically and emotionally.”, she said, her tone fond. “I have no doubt that he’ll be a valuable asset to the pack.”
Entering the office where Sebastian was working, Enora found him poring over some documents, his brow furrowed in concentration. She hesitated for a moment, steeling herself for the conversation that was about to unfold, before clearing her throat to get his attention. Sebastian looked up from his work, surprise flickering in his eyes as he caught sight of Enora standing in the doorway. “Enora, hey.”, he said, his voice warm but guarded. “What brings you here?”
Enora took a deep breath, summoning the courage to speak her mind. “I need to talk to you, Sebastian.”, she said, her voice steady despite the nervous flutter in her chest. “It’s about Marcus.”
Sebastian’s expression softened at the mention of Marcus’ name. “What about him?”, he asked, his voice tinged with curiosity.
Enora hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to broach the subject. But then, summoning her resolve, she plunged ahead. “I heard from Grace that Marcus is moving back to Moonlit to become the pack’s doctor.”, she said, her voice tinged with accusation. “Is that true?”
Sebastian’s expression darkened at Enora’s words, his jaw clenching with tension. “Yes, it’s true.”, he said, his tone defensive. “I thought it would be a good pick for the doctor’s position. And as you mentioned many times, we needed to get a doctor. Especially after everything that’s happened.”
Enora felt a surge of anger rising within her at Sebastian’s response, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. “And you didn’t think to discuss this with me first? Or at least mention it?”, she said, her voice laced with frustration. “How do you think that makes me feel? I put hours into the search for a doctor when none of you cared! And here you go, making one call and making it seem that I was stupid for not finding one.”
Sebastian’s eyes narrowed at Enora’s accusation, his own frustration mounting. “I was just trying to help, Enora. I thought it was the right thing to do.”, he said, his voice tinged with irritation, but trying to stay calm. “And besides, Marcus is an old friend of mine. I thought he would be a good fit for the pack.”
Enora’s anger flared at Sebastian’s words, hurt and resentment bubbling to the surface. “So what? You just used your friendship with Marcus to get him to move back?”, she said, her voice trembling with anger. “You didn’t think about how this would affect me? How it would make me feel?”
“I spent hours, days! Calling so many people to find a doctor, asking for favors from other Alphas, and I didn’t succeed. And you make one call, and you strike gold? Did you ever think that I could manage? Do you take me seriously?”, Enora yelled, feeling hurt and angry.
“Stop picking a fight with me, Enora. I didn’t do it to make you look stupid, I was actually trying to help you!”, Sebastian said as calmly as he could manage.
Enora felt her frustration boiling over, her emotions swirling in a tumultuous storm. “Help me? By undermining me and making me feel incompetent?”, she shot back, her voice trembling with emotion. “I don’t need your pity, Sebastian. I need your respect.”
