Chapter 25: "Desperate Measures

Chapter 25: "Desperate Measures

Ronan pov

I never thought I would feel it again, that dose of evil that sucks into your system and convinces you that all your actions are right,

It was foolish of me to have opened up what witches and sages used years to close up, but I was desperate. I hadn’t seen her, I hadn’t heard from her,

It felt like it was my only shot. I knew there were going to be some consequences to my actions, but I didn’t know they would be this dire.

I struggled over the ropes that held me tied to a tree. The ropes were laced with wolfsbane, and even my dark powers were weakened by it.

I gritted my teeth as I pushed at it again, I needed to leave,

“You’re just going to end up making the poison spread into your system, and when that happens. Well, it’s the end of the road for you,”

His disgusting voice brought out vile emotions that I didn’t know I was capable of,

Kyros sat on one of the wooden branches sharpening a wooden stick with a knife,

He still looked the same way he had years ago, I suppose being held in confinement slowed his age,

He grinned at me, while I gave him my signature glare.

“What do you care, it’s not like my death wouldn’t give you satisfaction,”

“It would. But it’s too short a satisfaction. And thanks to good luck I have the perfect one.” He blew on his wooden stick, twisting it in his hands.

“Do you know what wood this is?”

“Oak ash. It’s from the only tree that grows on the bank of nature and magic, an harmless mixture sure, but it’s still a taint of nature, and one strike of this to her heart. She’s poof,”

Her. He meant sera, at that I pushed even harder, breathing hard. If I can just get released from this.

I’ll snap his head, and end this.

He released a dark chuckle,

“Seeing you act this way will never get old, This should be fun.”

I wouldn’t let him hurt her, no, I wouldn’t sit still and watch him take away the one person that meant the world to me.

It’s a destruction that I wasn’t even ready for.

Maybe if I reasoned with him.

“Why are you doing this?”

“Oh it’s simple actually, you don’t get to live happily ever after. Not after you ruined my life.”

“You fed me a dark elixir that made me murder my people! And yet I ruined your life?” I snarled.

The smile was gone from his face.

“We were meant to be perfect. A team. All I did was help you out to fit into what you were meant to be. And you led me to those witches and sages. They bound me in eternal hell.”

Talking more would only upset him, and right now I was trying to take Sera off his murder list.

“She did nothing wrong. Your fight is with me.”

“True. But what’s the fun in that? Besides for me to ensure no one can ever lock me up, Sera has to die.”

Sera was also a taint of nature. And somehow that connects them, just as it connects us, only that I had no plan in murdering her.

“Rest easy. We have a long way to go.”

He went on about his sharpening, By nightfall, we travelled on foot through the woods.

I knew it was cause he was trying to avoid being seen, I didn’t bother asking where he was taking me, I didn’t want to know.

Instead, I focused on how to escape, except so far all I got was nothing. He had my hands tied and he tugged on the ropes all day long.

It wasn’t until we reached a popular waterfall that I was about to place where our destination was.

The academy.

That only filled me with confusion, we’d practically left here only to return?

But not just that, the dead bodies lying on the academy floors. It was enough to send a chill down my spine.

It was just like that night.

He closed his eyes for a while, and when he opened them again, he had a large grin on his face.

What was he up to?

“Now we wait.”

We hadn’t waited for long exactly, cause someone was walking out of the academy.

Except it wasn’t just anyone. It was her.
My heart went out of my throat immediately.

She was unharmed. And walking towards us. When she saw me. Her eyes widened. But she was quick to avert her gaze, and I could hear her heart beating fast. Her shoulders were tense.

She was afraid.

“Hello, Seraphina. I have indeed missed you, I apologize for the trouble I had to get into to get you here, though it was the only way.”

She fixed him with a glare. “You murdered innocent people.”

“Anyone who participated in my ruin is hardly innocent, just like your precious Ronan here.”

She looked at me and swallowed deeply.

“What do you want?”

“Simple. Your death. It’s my path to become truly unstoppable.”

Her hands were fisted by her sides. “And what if I refuse?”

“It’s cute that you think you have a say in this, almost makes me want to keep you alive.”

She snarled and raised her hands, and fire evaporated out.

“I’ll kill you before that happens.”

His smirk increased. And when she threw the fire at him. It did hit him, only that she fell to the floor from the effect. Instead of him.

Which had to be the most bizarre thing ever. Sera had her eyes widened in shock.

“You see we’re supposed to be connected so if you get hurt, I’ll get hurt, but with the help of dark magic. I faltered a bit. When I get hurt, you’ll feel the pain instead, and when you get hurt I’ll feel the pain too.”

“So if I did this.” He placed a knife over his skin and sank it deep, but instead of it affecting him, Sera’s hands tore open and blood oozed out.

She winced in pain.

I pushed again. I had to stop her pain. Seeing her in so much pain drove me crazy.

“And this… well it would just kill you.”

He placed the wooden knife on his chest and plunged it in.

No. I didn’t think about my next step. I jumped since my legs were tied, and thankfully I landed on him enough to cause the wooden knife to stop.

The actions caused me to come crashing hard on the floor,

“Now!” Sera shouted. And from nowhere an arrow of net was shot at Kyros, causing him to fall flat,

He growled and struggled.

The arrow had been shot by Ciaran who came out from hiding behind the trees.

“It’s not going to hold him for long,” Ciaran noted.

Sera looked between him, and then between me.

“I know what to do.”

I didn’t like the look in her eyes when she said that.

She raised her hands and fire evaporated from them, and then she pushed it into herself.

But instead of it not having any effect on her, it caused her to scream hard.

My entire world froze. She was going to die.

“Stop her!” I shouted to Ciaran.

“It’s working.” He pointed at Kyros who was shouting.

“Stop her or she’ll die!” I growled and moved against the ropes, but instead, I felt weaker.

But before Ciaran could even listen, she had dropped her hands, and her body fell to the floor unconscious.

Kyros had also gone unconscious.

“Help me out!” I seethed at Ciaran. Who did just that, then I rushed to her,

Her body was cold. Too cold. She can’t die. No. I will not allow it.

I shook at her, and when I heard her faint heartbeat. Small relief flooded through me.

“She doesn’t have enough time, we have to get help for her.”

“If she wakes up, Kyros does too.”

“I don’t give a fuck about kyros. She has to live.”

“Your not giving a fuck is what got us in this mess.”

I breathed through my nose, every minute spent arguing is a minute wasted on saving her.

“Just help me save her. I can’t lose her.”

Ciaran heaved a sigh. “She needs a healer. The ones here are dead. We’ll take her to the one in the dead lands.”

Dead Lands is the vampire kingdom.

“That’s a long ride.”

“Only to wolves.”

He bent down and picked up in his arms.

“Ensure you get there on time.”

And before I could argue further, he was already traveling full vampire speed.

I was too weak to use my wolf, but I knew I could trust Ciaran. He did love her. So he wouldn’t hurt her. Right?

I turned to look at Kyros. If he woke up and was here alone, he’ll get himself freed.

So I picked him up and carried him to one of the academy dungeons, guarded with magic.

It would hold him off for long.

After which I entered a car to drive at full speed straight to Ciaran and Seraphina.
