Chapter 37
( Third person POV)
As Koryn, Nyla and the rest kept running, Lucas wondered what could have happened to Salome who he had just fought. They escaped the castle and blended in with the crowd as they made their way back to the forest. As dusk drew near, they decided to lodge at one hotel.
" Geez, finally some rest", Nyla said, " we finally left that shitty castle", she added.
" I don't even know what to do", Jane said, " it's my first time outside the palace in over ten years", she explained.
" Damn, you really have been there for a really long time", Koryn said, " how did you wind up there anyway?", she asked out of curiosity.
" It's a really long story", Jane replied, " I don't even know where to begin", she said.
" Just try to explain it anyhow you can", Lucas said, " it could mean a lot if we are to put an end to the tyranny of the Viesryan people", he explained.
" Alright, let me try", Jane said.
" Atta girl", Nyla praised, " alright let's hear it", she urged.
" I remember that I once used to stay in a human village", she said, " we weren't really aware of any vampires or werewolves then. All we cared about was to survive and conquer our environment. We really thrived in our little isolated tribe until around ten years ago. An old seer from our village had been in the habit of warning us that the children of Satan were going to come after us and feast on us, but no one took her seriously, except me of course", she explained.
" I can see why you survived", Koryn commented, " anyway, what happened next?", she asked.
" Well I started visiting the old seer's house to ask her what our fate would be and how the children of Satan looked", Jane explained, " the old seer told me then that they looked human simply because their ancestor was human and made an eternal pact with the devil. But she also told me about their eternal life, weaknesses and even what they smelt like. Having been armed with such knowledge, I set out to see if I could replicate the smell they had. I would go into the woods to find flowers and crush different kinds and bring it to the old seer, who would then let me know if the smell was similar to or vastly different from what she smelt in her visions and gradually, I perfected that vampire smell, which saved my life during the great massacre", she explained.
" Whoa, now that's a deep story", Lucas said, " but how did you get into the castle?", he asked.
" During the attack on my village, the vampires wouldn't attack me as the smell of my perfume made them think that I was a vampire", Jane replied, " so once they had destroyed my village, they took me with them to the castle and trained me to work there as a maid", she explained.
" How did you eat?", Nyla asked, " didn't they give you blood to drink all the time?", she asked.
" Yes unfortunately", she replied, " I had to learn to not only drink, but tolerate the smell of blood just so they wouldn't see through my disguise. I eventually got used to it after a few years but would try not to take it unless when necessary", she said.
" Do you know if that seer was killed during the attack on your village?", Koryn asked, " I think she might know something", she suggested.
" I'm sure she fled into the woods and cloaked herself with the vampire scent", Jane said, " perhaps we could go find her", she said.
" That would be for another day", Lucas said, " for now, we need to get you guys to Wolfendon so you can get some medication and get some quality rest and training too", he explained.
" Why training though?", Jane asked.
" Because, we are definitely going to have to come back here", he replied. So they rested for the night and early at dawn, they headed into the forest and Lucas called for an evacuation team and in about ten minutes, a helicopter came to take them away.
Meanwhile, back at the castle, Alexavian is furious with everyone.
" How could you let them escape?", he yelled at his men, " they entered into our coven and got away like it was nothing", he said.
" The infiltrators were very power werewolves sir, most likely mercenaries", one of them said, " they were way stronger and faster than the regular werewolves", he explained with his knees on the ground.
" What are you supposed to do when you see intruders in my palace? huh?", Alexavian asked angrily, his eyes already turning red and his fangs growing even larger than normal.
" We apprehend them and bring them to you, my Lord", the vampire said.
" And if they are hostile?", Alexavian asked, " what do you do then?", he added.
" We kill them sire", he replied.
" Now did you kill any of the intruders of which you speak?", Alexavian asked.
" Unfortunately, no my Lord", he replied.
" Then you are useless to me", Alexavian said as he picked him off the ground with a choke hold and ripped his heart of out his chest and flung the body away on the floor.
" You have got to calm down, Alex", Alaric said to him, " at this rate, you'll do more damage to our men than the wolves", he added.
" Yes brother, it's too much", Andreus said, " you've already killed more than thirty of our men in just ten minutes", he added.
" In case you both have forgotten, their incompetence cost my sister her life", he said angrily, " And I'll be damned if a thousand lives don't go for her sake. We will take vengeance on the people of Wolfendon", he said. " I treated their princesses with hospitality and they pay me back by killing my sister. They are so gonna pay", he said as he walked out of the hall.
" Alright the rest of you, go back to your stations and also, get rid of the corpses and place Salome in the sarcophagus in the upper chamber", Andreus ordered.
" Yes sir!", they all responded in unison and went to carry on his bidding.
" You need to watch over your brother", Alaric said to Andreus, " he is a very emotional kid though he doesn't show it. I'm pretty sure that the loss of your sister hurts him more than anyone else in our family. Just give him emotional support and make sure he doesn't make wrong decisions in anger", he advised.
" I will do as you have said my Lord", Andreus replied and both of them went their separate ways to their respective Chambers.
On the other hand, Lucas and his team just arrived in Wolfendon with the princesses and the queen was just waiting to welcome them in her palace. On their arrival to the palace, the queen saw them and ran to meet them and gave them a huge hug.
" Oh my daughters", she said as she wept, " I thought I had lost you.......(sobbing)....I thought I wouldn't get to see you both again before I die", she sobbed.
" Geez mom, we missed you too", Nyla said, " you don't have to be so dramatic", she added.
" Nyla, what's your problem?", Koryn asked her, " can't you for once at least read the moment and act accordingly?", she asked rhetorically.
" Well I simply ain't a fan of hugs", Nyla responded.
" At least pretend, even if it's only for mom, you heartless bitch", Koryn said.
" Girls calm down", the queen said with a beaming smile on her face, " Koryn, I love my Nyla just the way she is, and I love you just the way you are. You don't have to ever pretend or fake anything in my presence. I accept you just as you are", she said to them as she rubbed both of their cheeks with her palms.
" How have you been mom?", Koryn asked.
" Well, I must say, I was really down once but Rorhy kept on pestering me till I got well. That rascal", she said laughing.
" Sheesh I can already see him pestering us in no time", Nyla said, " though I kinda miss him a bit", she added.
" Did someone say she missed me?", Rorhy said as he walked in, " I guess Nyla couldn't hold back her feelings anymore", he mocked.
" Speak of the devil", the queen said, " what brings you here today Rorhy? I thought you had an appointment", the queen said.
" Yeah, I did but it was a patient who just died before I got there", he said, " so I offered my heartfelt condolences and off I went and now here I am hearing confessions here and there", he said.
" I doubt Nyla was confessing, dear Rorhy", the queen said, " though it is weird that she admits missing you. Perhaps my daughter is in love", the queen teased while staring at Nyla.
" And why wouldn't she be? I'm the most charming doctor there ever was", he bragged with his head held high, " Also, I came to warm you my queen to be careful", he added with an expressionless face.
" Of what dear Rorhy?", the queen asked.
" Of letting me be your son in-law", he said as he burst into laughter, " because then I'll get to pester you all the time", he added.
" Would you two stop daydreaming?", Nyla asked, " I'm right here for Pete's sake", she said.
" Of course you're right here", Rorhy said, " right here beside me just like it'll be on the aisle", he joked at which point both he and the queen burst into uncontrollable laughter.
" Well I'm out of here ", Nyla said, " I'm going to my room", she said. Her mom and Rorhy couldn't even answer her since they were still lost in their laughter. I guess this was home. She was already so used to the teasing that she didn't even feel a thing even when she was being teased.
