Chapter 38
( Third person POV)
Two weeks had passed since Koryn and her sister Nyla had escaped from the castle in Viesryan. They received training in the royal palace in Wolfendon. They were preparing to head back to Viesryan in search of the old seer that Jane had told them about. But in order to go back, they needed to get stronger. Lucas was in charge of training all three of them, including Jane. Jane had made friends with almost everyone in the palace and had been given special treatment since she was human. Currently, all three of them were on hunting ground and were led there by Lucas.
" This is so cool", Koryn said, " I've never been to the hunting ground before", she added as she took a look around.
" Well that's because only the strongest of wolves, who are usually males get to come here", Lucas said.
" Geez, talk about misogyny", Nyla said.
" Calm down princess", Lucas said to Nyla while laughing, " it's got nothing to do with gender or sexism. It's all about merit and generally speaking the male wolves work towards meriting it more", he explained.
" So why did we come here anyways?", Nyla asked impatiently, " you know I still got things to do at the palace", she added.
" Yes I know", Lucas replied, " but remember that we will be going back to Viesryan again in about a week so we can find the old seer that Jane here( he said while pointing at Jane) told us about", he said.
" Well we already know that", Nyla said, " we can train at home and besides I train all the time when I'm alone", she explained.
" True as it may be, your strength and skill are still currently too low if we are to survive the trip ", Lucas said to them, " If we infiltrate Viesryan again, we may be bombarded by high-level vampires like the female one we killed just before we escaped the castle", he explained.
" Yeah, she truly wasn't like other vampires", Koryn said, " she had unbelievable abilities that I had never seen. She could literally walk through walls and in them too, she could also morph herself into shadows so she obviously had some shape shifting ability", she explained.
" Funny enough, she's not even that powerful compared to many of the vampires in that castle", Jane said," and if it took the strength of an Alpha and even some chemicals to kill her, I wonder if we can kill the higher-ups", she said.
" And that's exactly why we have got to train ourselves", Lucas said, " there are vampires in that kingdom that have powers way beyond what we can currently fathom", he said.
" Well, my research has led me to the conclusion that high level vampires, might have a propensity for witchcraft, an art that doesn't really sit well with werewolves", Koryn said
" but we could create some sort of anti-magic object that can save us from their powers", she explained.
" That's actually a brilliant idea. Once we get back to the palace, you and the other scientists can start experimenting the idea", Lucas said, " but for now, we train. We've got to get stronger in the shortest time possible", he added. So they trained for hours on end, building their endurance and strength. They actually would need all the training they could get, because the vampires wouldn't just attack them as Intruders, this time they'll have a vengeful motive too.
Meanwhile, Alpha Marco was still plotting how he would take full control of Wolfendon. He was more anxious now than before, because the doctors had predicted that Keldon would wake up in less than a week.
" We have got to make sure he dies", he said out loud breaking the silence in his palace.
" Are you still thinking about Keldon sir?", Luggard asked, " I say sir, you worry too much about him", he commented.
" Well, my worry has a very solid basis", Marco said, " and I've got to do something quick before this anxiety kills me", he said.
" What is it that forms the basis of your worry, my Lord", Luggard asked him.
" In our last Alpha meeting, the royal doctors brought the so-called good news that Keldon state is stable and that he might most likely wake up in less than a week", Marco replied.
" Okay, now that's bad news", Luggard commented, " I can see why you're worried now", he said to him.
" Now you see", Marco said, " I've gotta do something fast before he actually wakes up. If he becomes conscious, the whole kingdom will know that I was the one who put him in that state. I'll be executed", he said with his hands vibrating frantically.
" Perhaps we could send someone to finish the job and just kill him once and for all", Luggard suggested, " that way your secret remains buried forever", he said with a sinister smirk.
" That of course would have been the best option, but now I'm afraid even that might not even be possible anymore", Marco said to him, " we might have to do something even worse than just killing Keldon if at all that is even ever going to be possible", he said.
" But sir, killing Keldon is as simple as just suffocating him with a pillow right there on his bed", Luggard said, " why is it suddenly so hard in your eyes? even I can do it alone", he asked.
" You just don't get it, do you Luggard?", Marco said, " Now that the whole kingdom of Wolfendon is expecting him to be awake in no time, the security around his chamber has been exponentially increased with more than five hundred mercenaries surrounding his room and we've not even started to count the royal gaurd around his chamber. The place is simply impenetrable", he said.
" Geez, this is really bad", Luggard said, " how the hell are we going to escape this now? is this the end of the road for us?", he asked.
" No! never!", Marco replied, " we will surely find a way. Of that I am very sure. Just have faith ", he said.
" I will serve you till death, my Lord", Luggard said with his knee on the floor in obeisance.
" I know this, dear Luggard", Marco said, " you are the only one I can trust", he added.
A few days later, Koryn discovers something new at the lab with the rest of the other scientists and sends for Lucas. Lucas arrives in less than five minutes and asks, " What is it that you found, my princess?".
" It's incredible", Koryn exclaimed in excitement and then beckoned one of the scientists to get her a sample. He soon returns with a glass of some pink liquid and gives it to Koryn. " Take a look at this", she said to him, " isn't it beautiful?", she asked.
" Well it is I guess", he responded, " but I'm guessing that you didn't call me all the way here to show me some colorful liquid's beauty", he said to her.
" Of course not", she said chuckling, " this liquid here has the ability to stop magic", she said to him.
" Hmmmm", he thought as he looked at the liquid, " can I see a demonstration?", he asked her.
" Yeah sure, why not?", she replied and then called for a demonstration from the scientists. Then two scientists came forward and brought with them an old man.
" Who's the old guy?", Lucas asked.
" Well that's a sorcerer that Rorhy once treated", Koryn said, " and he is going to be our guinea pig", she said.
" Hmmm that's interesting", Lucas said.
" Great Wiz, can you cast a levitation spell on the spoon over there?", Koryn asked the old man.
" Why sure, young princess", he replied and then said some incantations and then touched the spoon with the tip of his index finger. Immediately, the spoon started floating in thin air, just suspended at a spot.
" It's kinda cool seeing Witchcraft up close", Lucas commented, " so what next?", he asked.
" Be patient", Koryn said to him, " we are going to put a drop of this liquid on the spoon while it's still suspended in the air and the result should be that, the magic wears off immediately", she explained to him and then took a drop of the liquid and touched the spoon with the drop and immediately, the spoon fell straight to the ground.
" Impressive right?", Koryn asked, " it was really cool the first time I saw it in action", she said.
" Yeah, I must admit that it's cool", Lucas said, " but can't the sorcerer just make it levitate again?In which case the whole potion might not he that efficient", he asked.
" I asked the same question immediately I observed it's effect but that too has been tested", she said to him, " observe what happens when the old man tries making the spoon levitate again", she said and then turned to the old man and said, " Great Wiz, try to make the spoon levitate again". Then the old man made a few incantations and then touched the spoon again with the tip of his index finger, but this time, the spoon didn't respond. It just vibrated a little bit.
" Voila!", Koryn exclaimed, " we now have what it takes to vanquish the higher-ups in Viesryan", she said to him.
" I guess you're right", he replied, " now all that remains is to get ready to fight", he said. And so they prepared for their next infiltration of Viesryan. Koryn was determined to put an end to the war and Lucas was determined to get revenge for Keldon and his men who were wounded in battle. As anyone could tell, it would obviously be a long while before this war would come to an end with both parties now finding new motivations to engage in the war more and more. What would unfold in the near future? Let's watch and see.
