Chapter 65 65

Chapter 65 65
Chapter 65: Lucien’s POV

I hated being away from Rhea and the pack but unfortunately, we had no choice. Noah had claimed he found a lead on the vampire she sighted but it turned out to beo be a dead end. Now that piece of information would have been appreciated hours before I had to leave her alone in bed.

I recalled what she looked like early that morning. Covered in bite marks from her neck down to her toes whimpering at the slightest touch. We had gone a bit overboard but she was such a good little mate to us.

The morning sun spilled over Umbra just as we passed the clearing. To humans, the town was nothing short of peaceful, but I felt the tension just waiting to break free.

Noah led the way through the crowded streets. He’d done this yesterday and reported nothing unusual but I couldn’t ignore the feeling that someone was watching.

We reached the inn he had booked. It was the perfect hiding spot with one room and a measly couch that had seen better days. I let my gaze sweep the area noting, every small detail.

"My apologies Alphas, this was the best I could do on such short notice." Noah said bowing.

Damian waved him off and plopped down on the bed.

"No worries Noah, we've been through worse remember. Besides, if Lucien finds it below his standards he can find somewhere else to stay. You and I can crash here peacefully." He said with a wink.

I rolled my eyes and ignored him whilst setting down my carry-on.

"What's the latest update?" I asked Noah.

"Well, I canvassed the area last night. Turns out the Vampires run an illegal underground club where they feast on humans and drug them up so much they can barely remember their own name."

"That explains their endless supply of blood these days," Damian said.

"What else?" I asked.

"I got us three passes into the club," Noah answered holding up three black cards

"As smart as you think that sounds Noah, we're were wolves, Lucien and I are Alphas, it'd be impossible to hide our scent long enough to slip past unnoticed." Damian cut in.

"I found an answer to that too. Stopped by a witch's stall too. Got us potions that would do the trick. It wears out after two hours though so we've got to be quick about it." Noah said smugly.

“You’re going to make me regret this,” I muttered, brushing a hand through my hair.

“Relax,” Damian drawled. “It’s not like we’re going in blind. Noah’s got the passes, and if your ego can handle it, our beta's brilliant little idea for the disguises should work perfectly.”

Noah slid the three black cards across the small table toward me.
“These will get us in,” he said, a smug grin still on his face.

“VIP passes, so no one even glances twice.”

I lifted an eyebrow. “VIP passes into a vampire club that feeds on humans."

“And the potions?” I asked, testing the vial in my palm. The liquid shimmered under the morning light.

"Masks our scent and masks any trace of wolf energy. I can handle the entry. You two just… follow my lead and don’t blow your cover.”

That last part was mainly directed to Damian but he didn't say it out loud. He didn't need to.

I pinched the bridge of my nose. This was starting to seem like more trouble than anticipated. While we were mortal enemies, the wolves and vampires had an unspoken understanding. One Damian and I were about to break because of Rhea. But damn she was worth it.

Damian noticed my silence. “Thinking about our little mate again?” he asked.

I didn’t answer, just tightened my jaw. Damian had an annoying habit of being able to read me.

I grabbed my phone to check if there were any messages from her.

There were none. Rhea unfortunately for us wasn't as addicted to her phone like the kids were these days.

I typed a quick message asking how she was and sent it. It showed delivered but not read. Last I heard she was being drilled in preparation for the annual Lunar hunt. My heart swelled with pride at the thought of her even participating.

By the time we stepped back into the streets, the sun was just beginning to set. We followed the directions Noah had memorized, slipping into narrow alleys and quiet side streets that led to the club. The place was tucked away behind a nondescript wooden door with no sign. Perfectly disguised to the human eye.

The scent of decaying flesh and blood filled my nostrils before we arrived at the door. I did my best to not let the disgust show on my face.

Noah produced the three black cards, flashing them with a smooth ease that suggested he’d done this before and the door swung open silently.

The club was dimly lit by low red and violet lamps that threw everything into shadow. People both human and supernatural danced wildly clearly intoxicated. In the darker corners, out of reach for the normal eye, I saw vampires feasting on unassuming humans and tossing their limp bodies to the side once they were done.

One of them noticed me watching.

She peeled herself away from the shadows her pale skin gleaming under the red light. Her dress was barely there black silk clinging to her curves. The neckline plunging so deep it stopped just above her belly button. Her long dark hair cascaded over one shoulder, lips stained a deep crimson that I doubted was entirely cosmetic.

She smiled.

I didn’t return it.

She moved through the crowd with practiced grace and stopped directly in front of me, close enough that I could smell the copper on her breath beneath the perfume.

“Well...” she purred, dragging her gaze slowly down my chest. “You don’t look like you belong here.”

“I get that a lot.” I replied flatly.

Her fingers brushed my lapel, lingering there. “I like a man who stands out.”

I gently removed her hand.

“I'd appreciate it if you refrained from touching me. I'm not interested.”

She blinked, clearly not accustomed to rejection. Vampires thrived on allure. Humans fell over themselves for a fraction of this attention.

She leaned closer instead.

“I don’t bite without permission.” she whispered near my ear.

I turned away hiding my disgust.

“Perhaps." she tried again, stepping closer, “you’d prefer somewhere more private?”

Before I could respond, Damian appeared at my side like he’d been waiting for the exact second to intervene.

He slid an arm casually around my shoulders.

“Oh, sweetheart,” he said smoothly, flashing her one of his devastating smiles. “My brother here doesn’t swing that way.”

I turned my head slowly toward him.

He winked.

Her eyes flicked between us, confusion first then followed quickly by mortification.

“Oh.” Her face flushed an impressive shade of red. “I...I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize.”

Damian nodded sympathetically. “Happens all the time.”

I stared at him.

She stepped back quickly, smoothing her dress. “My mistake. Enjoy your evening.”

And then she was gone, disappearing into the crowd.

A quiet choking sound came from behind us.

Noah.

He had one hand over his mouth, shoulders shaking.

“Not a word." I warned.

He lost the battle and laughed anyway, quickly ducking his head to hide it.

Damian removed his arm from my shoulders and grinned. “What? It worked.”

“You’re insufferable.”
