Chapter 90 — WAITING.
Nathan’s body looked deformed from the last battle he had with Ethan, the same time Ethan had thought he was dead. But he wasn’t the only one, all the supernatural beings in Silverwood appeared behind him one by one, there were as much as Ethan could see.
“Happy to see me again?” Nathan asked.
“Oh yes, looks like the gem of Destruction could only do more damage to your original body than heal it,” Ethan replied smiling.
Amara immediately panicked, “how did he hear we were here?”
Ethan replied, “It is the rogue immortal, are you surprised?”
Nathan laughed, “you hid, allowing the innocent people die, what do you call yourself Amara. If you had turned yourself in, then none of this would have happened.”
“She is worth more, and I won’t see her in your hands ever,” Ethan said and moved a step forward.
Seeing this, Nathan only laughed, “Look at you, no moon spirit, nor do you have any life source left. Why not get out of the way if you don’t want a painful death.”
“Over my dead body,” Ethan answered, he frowned that Alrond had made him an ally, telling him about his weakness.
“Over your dead body it is,” Nathan smirked and then on his hand was the gem of Destruction, but when he was about to send a blast. The gem disobeyed his commands causing a serious backlash and made him cough out blood.
“What is happening?” Nathan asked as he clutched his chest and head. The power of the gem now eating away his soul.
“Have you forgotten that I am Arcata?” Amara’s voice came from behind Ethan and she walked out revealing herself. All the veins on her hand and face were now visible, “you won’t use my creation unless I permit you. And never use it to hurt the one I love.”
“No Amara, what are you doing?” Ethan’s eyes widened with terror. He knew exactly what was happening. Amara was awakening the power of Arcata and this meant her death. Ethan was terrified by this. He grabbed Amara’s hands but it was too late.
She used the gem of destruction against the witches and wolves there, drying out their blood and organs and they fell into the ground one by one dropping dead. But the pain Amara received was unbearable, she was too strong to be contained in her body, and it was as if she was burning up.
Seeing this Ethan desperately held onto her. She fell to the ground with Ethan. Ethan clutched her hands tightly.
“Why?” he asked.
Weakly Amara said, “that blast would have killed you, so I am returning the favor.”
“No, please, no,” Ethan pleaded, but pain was too much for Amara to bear. She immediately brought out a knife and placed it on Ethan’s hands.
“Do it, don’t let me suffer again,” she said.
Ethan shook his head again and again, but he couldn’t bare to see Amara in pain. He immediately took the knife closed his eyes and pierced her heart.
Amara then kissed him one last time, a smile on her face, “for this brief ritual, you have to be the one to kill me. I give you all my knowledge and powers,” her voice was no longer Amara’s. It was with ancient accent, that of thousands of years ago. It was Arcata’s.
“I will be back for you,” she said before taking the last breath. Immediately she was gone, Ethan let out a bloodcurdling scream. New powers surged through his veins. His life source, moon spirit and strength was restored. He had also been given thousands of years of knowledge and powers. They surged through his veins fueling him with anger and revenge.
Ethan's world had descended into a maelstrom of despair and vengeance. With Amara's lifeless body cradled in his arms, he embarked on a relentless rampage, a one-man reckoning against all those who had wronged him. His brother, Alrond, who had betrayed him not once, but twice, was shown no mercy. Pearl, whose obsession had sowed the seeds of this tragedy, met her end at Ethan's hands as well.
In a frenzy fueled by grief and newfound powers coursing through his veins, Ethan unleashed a wave of destruction upon the supernatural world of Silverwood. The streets that had once been a playground for the mystical now ran red with the blood of those who had once wielded power. The very essence of Silverwood was irrevocably altered, forever scarred by the cataclysmic event.
Once his brutal vengeance was exacted, Ethan turned his attention to the one person who had always been at the center of his universe—Amara. With the tenderest of care, he laid her to rest, ensuring that her final resting place was one of peace and solitude.
Then, with unwavering determination, he focused on Amara's family, ensuring their safety. They were relocated to the tranquil countryside, far from the turmoil that had engulfed Silverwood. It meant leaving behind their home, their possessions, and everything they had known, but it was a small sacrifice compared to the horrors they had endured.
Ethan remained in Silverwood, a town forever changed by the whirlwind of chaos and destruction. With resilience and purpose, he took on the mantle of leadership once more, becoming the alpha of Zathkanan Palace. It was a role he had embraced and forsaken, but now he wielded his authority with a newfound sense of duty and purpose.
Yet, despite the passage of time and the transformation of Silverwood, Ethan's heart remained unchanged. He bore the weight of his loss and the memory of Amara's words, etching them into his very soul. Her promise to return, no matter how long it took, was the beacon that kept him tethered to hope.
"I would wait even for a thousand years if it meant meeting you again," he whispered to the empty streets of Silverwood, the echoes of his words a testament to a love that transcended time and circumstance. And so, as the years rolled on, Ethan stood as a guardian of Silverwood, waiting, hoping, and never wavering in his belief that someday, their love would be reunited.
THE END.
