Chapter 66 — NOTHING BUT TRAGEDY AND PAIN.

Meeting Mara in the remote local area, was just enough to tell him how much Amara had changed him. After leaving the mountains, he couldn’t stop himself from thinking about Amara, if she was safe or not. Though he had placed her in Alrond’s care, still he could not help but feel at unease.

He had gone straight to Alrond that raining night, and while Alrond filled Ethan up with all that had happened so far and also with the plan of giving Amara a truth revealing potion, a distressing call came from Sarah, telling them that Amara had been taken away by Nathan.

Ethan primordial instincts kicked in as he immediately found out Nathan’s hiding spot. But all ended in tragedy as Amara saved his life, but almost took her own. He had to act fast and give her more than half of his life source.

When he was done, he felt dizzy, and a wild headache that troubled him, but with a smile in his face knowing that Amara was safe.

When she woke up, she saw Ethan smiling at her, his smile warm, charming and contagious. So much that it made her mirror the same smile.

But the smile left as soon as it came, because Ethan fell down completely knock out shortly afterwards.

This terrified Amara, she yelled for help. Alrond who was still standing by the door rushed in and took his brother in his arms.

“What is wrong with him?” Amara asked, concern in her voice.

“Go away!” was the only words that came out of Alrond’s mouth. He looked at Amara with absolute disgust almost like she wasn’t worthy of touching Ethan ever again, but Amara didn’t let his look discourage her. She kept following him around the rain still pouring down, but not as heavy as minutes ago.

As they came out of the old, rusty house, Alrond gestured at a car which had just arrived. It was her siblings who had been looking for her all night under the heavy rain and in such a grave condition. Unable to let them see Ethan at such a state, he rushed to place him gently at the back seat of his own car.

“Alrond, please tell me what is wrong with him? What can I do to help?” Amara asked, her voice held so much pain at how sudden Alrond was treating her. She wondered if Ethan had done something huge to make her well at the cost of his own life. This troubled her and with the way Alrond started treating her it only made her guilt worse.

Alrond entered the car and drove off without another word. Leaving Amara standing there with distraught questions in her head. Sarah and Frank ran towards her and threw their arms around her, ignoring the pain that surged from their own injuries.

Meanwhile as Alrond drove back to Zathkanan Palace. His eyes watered and his heart shattered, not for himself, but for his brother. Ethan just wanted to find out what exactly had caused Lady Jane and her disciples death. He had never expected to meet Amara, and that meeting had caused endless troubles. Yes it was all the rogue immortal’s design, using Ethan’s lost memories caused by the evil gem of Fate and Destiny to his own advantage, but he was there. He saw how much the gem of Fate and Destiny affected both Ethan and Amara. Ethan even more because Amara was something related to Arcata. He had already guessed by now that Amara was Arcata’s reincarnation. He didn’t know why Ethan had hidden it from him, it made him a little bit angry because they had always told each other everything. Ethan didn’t only start to get attracted to Amara, but it had softened his stoned heart which was a concern alone. Alrond played along with all these, thinking that Amara would bring them a good fortune from her connection with Arcata. He had even given his own approval of their relationship hoping it would merge their powers and make Zathkanan Palace stronger, ignoring the fact that the gem of Fate and Destiny was a treacherous gem with treacherous consequences to its victims.

He was a fool to have watched Ethan fall deeper and deeper in love with Amara. Even though he couldn’t control his brother’s curiosity right from the beginning, he still could have done something entirely. Something that would have taken Ethan’s mind off Amara. Rather he would have even killed Amara himself.

Anger swelled up within him as he let out a frustrated scream. His brother had just made himself weak and vulnerable. If the other packs, witches or Immortals should hear that Ethan had given out more than half of his life source, they would storm Zathkanan Palace and fight for the throne. Ethan will not only be in danger, but in terrible danger. No one else could hear about such a disaster. Ethan was now weak and didn’t even think twice before doing such a thing. Alrond wondered just what Ethan had experienced with his time away from Amara that made him so deeply in love. This troubled Alrond.

Because of that stupid mortal, now his brother had to go through such tragedy. He wished that he had stopped Ethan, but there was nothing he could do. Ethan was now vulnerable. Such a weak body could not hold the amount of moon spirit Ethan possessed. With such a state, a single battle would leave him weak and useless. Such moon spirit would be useless in such a body. Alrond hit the horn angrily. There was no way Ethan would be able to protect the Zathkanan Palace’s pack in such a state. No one had to know about this too. So he also had to keep what happened confidential.

A newfound hatred found its way into Alrond’s heart for Amara. It was all her fault that Ethan was left in such a miserable state. Giving his life source to Amara was what made him angry, but what good could anger do.

He drove Ethan safely to Zathkanan Palace and as sneaky as a ninja, he slowly took Ethan to his chambers without alerting anyone or letting anyone notice their presence.

Quickly, he laid Ethan down and felt his pulse. His moon spirit ran in a disorganized manner in his blood, just as Alrond had expected. This made him worry so much that he was at the brink of giving his own life source, but if he was to do so, he would die completely and his life source would still not be enough for Ethan. For the past hundred years, his brother Ethan had enhanced his abilities so much that his moon spirit was extremely high, higher than anyone could ever imagine. So it would be useless if Alrond had tried giving his life source to Ethan. He thought of bringing some esteemed and skilled wolves to give theirs to Ethan, but this was extremely risky. Keeping this secret was extremely crucial.

Defeated, he just fed Ethan medicine while watching his brother with sadness evident on his face. Silently hoping that Ethan would find his peace.

But one thing remained on Alrond’s mind and that was to make sure Amara stayed away from Ethan to avoid causing anymore harm.
