Marietta's POV
I was in my room preparing to go to the building where Alyssa was held captive. This was the night I intended to reveal my identity to Alyssa. I felt fulfilled. I couldn't wait to see the shock on her face when she finally realizes that I am behind her kidnap.
It gives me serious joy to see people I hate suffer. Especially if the suffering is inflicted by me. The night was cold. I put on my pants and shirt. I wore an long black boot and covered myself with a cloak. Just as I was about to go out, the door sprang open and in came Mata.
Mata is my friend and confidant. She is around my age and we have known each other since we were little. Her mother came to our pack to seek refuge two decades ago after their pack was destroyed by the tsunami.
They are from the southern region close to our region. I can vividly recall that day. Her mother held her in her arms. Protecting her from the harsh weather of winter. She was badly injured and died a few hours after their arrival.
I could remember how her lifeless body slowly transformed into a brown wolf. My father was away at that time so my uncle ordered for her body to be buried.
Mata and I became close and because of our closeness, my father gave her a room in our household making her a member of the Al's family. As we grew up, I began to realize the similarities in our characters. Our hobbies, our desires, and strong zeal. This understanding strengthened our bond. She became the sister I never had.
She is almost as tall as me with brown long and slender hair, white skin, and golden eyes. "What is it, Mata?" I asked, I could sense all was not well.
"We have to go to Thomas immediately, something has happened" her voice was panicky. My heart was already pounding in my chest.
"But… But why? I panicked.
"We have to hurry as she dragged me along. It was obvious something had gone wrong. We followed the backyard to avoid getting seen.
As we ran through the bush I looked back and saw people in the village gathering around. It was dark but I could tell something was amidst.
We ran through the woods avoiding the clean track to avoid being seen. The paths we followed were alien to me but I trusted Mata enough to know that she wasn't leading me astray so I followed her without question.
After running through the woods for several minutes, we finally stopped. I sat on the floor breathing heavily.
Mata whistled and someone whistled back."Let's go" she beckoned to me and I followed her. We walked to a big tree just ahead of us. Under the tree were Thomas and his men. Two of them were holding a torch.
Thomas was lying on a ragged mat moaning painfully. I was in a state of confusion. The whole scene felt like a dream. I bent over to take a closer look at him. His face and body had several bruises and cuts. On his neck were teeth holes. I touched it and he let out a painful moan. "Sorry," I said feeling sorry for him. I have never seen him in this state.
"What happened," I asked, turning to Mata. Mata pointed at one of the men.
"This evening, we were in the big building chatting about today's fight. We were all excited that Thomas made it to the final round. It was time to take the captive's food to her. Bran took the food. I was the first to notice that he had stayed longer than necessary so I went to check on him.
On getting to the room Bran was on the floor blood gushing out of his hind head. The captives were gone. I alerted the others at once and together we set out to look for them. We spread out across the four directions.
While searching for them, Lighter found Thomas unconscious in a pool of blood. He brought him back to the building to tend to his wound and wait for others.
When we returned, I realized since the captives had escaped it was just a matter of time before we were found out so I asked us to evacuate the building at once.
We can't take him into the village so we brought him here and sent word for you to be brought here." He explained.
"Where is Lighter? " I asked.
"Dead" Bran responded sharply and my body ran cold. "By the time we returned from our search, his body had already transformed. We brought him here and buried him close to that lake." he pointed towards a lake miles away.
"Will he be fine?" I asked, pointing towards Thomas.
"I like to think he will be," Bran replied.
"Let us be optimistic, he will be fine," Mata said, trying to make me feel better. She just knows how to make me feel okay which is why I can never do anything without her.
Bran suggested that I go back to the village to avoid suspicion. Also, I need to stay in the village to know if Alyssa had made it to the village and what the next line of action will be.
Thomas was still unstable and incapable of uttering a word. Lighter is dead. The men are not sure about what exactly happened but the fact that Thomas was injured gives me the feeling that they had help. Alyssa cannot possibly injure Thomas and Tommy was already too weak, besides he was no match for Thomas.
I asked the men to take care of Thomas and together with Mata we went back to the village. Discreetly we went back to our rooms.
I couldn't sleep. I wandered around the room racking my head for answers. Who could have helped them? The attack on Marcus was unsuccessful and now Alyssa? I felt angry.
Perhaps I have given Thomas more credit than he deserves. This is the second time he has failed me. I went from being nervous to being angry.
The following day, an urgent meeting was called. The final phase of the wrestling fight was supposed to take place in the morning but the time was shifted to later in the day.
The meeting was to be held at the village clearing. Mata came in to inform me. I felt a cold sweat run down my chin. She assured me that everything will be fine. She has done her research and no one suspects me.
But that was not the only news she brought. She also came to inform me that the person who helped them escape was no other than Marcus.
I couldn't believe my ears. Mata explained that yesternight Marcus came back to the village with Alyssa and Tommy.
Marcus claimed they were attacked by unknown bandits but that is a big lie for sure.
"What did Alyssa and Tommy say? " I was curious to know how much trouble I was in but Mata explained that George the alpha of the Blood Brother pack had requested my father to leave Alyssa and Tommy in his custody.
Things were getting more complicated but I knew I must be strong. I am alpha Princess Marietta. I won't go down easily.
