Alyssa's POV
My head is aching and I am in total darkness. It took some minutes before my eyes could adjust to the darkness of the room. I was in a dark and dingy room, with no windows and only a flickering candle for light.
I looked around the room trying to figure out where I was. I then tried to stand up but I couldn't, my hands and feet were bound and I could barely move.
"What is this?" I asked in a state of confusion wondering how I got here.
I was terrified of the darkness that surrounded me. I had always been afraid of the dark, ever since I was a child, and now I was trapped in this dimly lit room with no way out.
"You are in a small room in the middle of nowhere," A male voice said.
Startled, I turn around quickly to see where the voice was coming from. The light from the candle was too dim for the darkness of the room so I could hardly see anything.
"Look ahead, I am sitting directly opposite you," he said. I looked and there he was seated on the bare floor. I could barely see him, but I could tell he was putting on a milk-colored colored shirt
"Who are you? I asked still in a state of confusion. What is this place?
You still don't know, do you?" he asked in a calm voice. Know what? I was even more confused.
He laughed faintly. "You have been kidnapped can't you see that? he said, this time his voice louder but trembling
"Kidnapped?" My voice trailed
"We are going to die here," he said and started sobbing. I couldn't believe what I just heard. Kidnapped? I lost a lot. How did this happen?
My head was blank and I couldn't figure it out at first but then my memory kicked in and it all came back to me in a flash.
I remember I was traveling through the forest with Ethan and members of his pack, on our way to the annual inter-pack wrestling competition which was hosted by the Red Hill pack.
At some point, I felt the need to use the comfort station so I excused myself. Ethan offered to escort me. I went behind a big tree a few steps away from where he stood waiting for me.
Suddenly I heard footsteps behind me. Before I could turn around to see who it was, I felt a sharp blow to the back of my head and everything went black.
I felt a sense of dread wash over me as I realized I had been kidnapped. I wondered if Ethan was also kidnapped. I hope not cos then I would have no one out there looking for me.
I was tied to a chair with my hands bound together to the back so I couldn't browse the room properly. So I have been kidnapped for real? What for? I am just an outcast who is treated with little to no regard. Why will somebody kidnap me?
Or are they women traffickers? That could be it. My heart skipped at the thought of that. I have heard stories of women traffickers. They kidnap women and take faraway far away places to trade them in exchange for money. These women are more often than not never found again.
I felt a lump stuck in my dry throat. I felt like crying. Now I understand better why the lady has been crying. Maybe she has already been told. This can't be, the seer said I was destined for great things. This cannot be my destiny.
Maybe this whole thing is a mistake. Maybe they have the wrong person. Maybe by tomorrow they will come in to announce that I was mistaken for someone else, and take me back to where they picked me from. I tried to be optimistic but I couldn't. I was panicking, finding it hard to believe my current situation. I didn't know when I burst into tears.
The first day under my captors was a blur of fear and confusion. I didn't know what they wanted from me, or why they had taken me in the first place. All I knew was that I was alone and scared and that I needed to find a way to escape. I cried until I fell asleep.
The ray of light coming through the holes from the roof flash through my eyes waking me up. I felt my neck snap as I tried to turn around. It hurt so bad that I let out a painful cry. daybreakay break. Now I could see the room.
The room was small, with stone walls and a dirt floor. There was a rickety wooden chair in one corner and a pile of straw in another. There was an old wooden table located at the other end of the room with different kinds of dirty-looking metallic objects on it.
The air was stale and musty due to the absence of a window and I could hear the sound of rats recurring around in the walls. The man sitting opposite me was awake too. He is a young man probably in his late twenties. He was wearing a torn white shirt which is now gray from dirt and blood. Even the black trouser he was wearing has been torn in several places. The skin on his leg looks dry and malnourished.
"Good morning," he said , his smile weak and pitiful" How was your first night in this hell hole?"
"Do you know these people? I asked.
No" he replied simply. I don't even know why I'm here. The only thing I know is that I will not leave here alive." He explained. He looked like he had been here for a very long time. He seems to have given up hope.
"And why are you so sure of that?" I asked
"Because I have been told several times. The person who ordered my kidnap wants me dead.
"I have been here for at least five months. Every day comes with its style of torture. Whoever it is that wants me dead wants it slow and painful."
He lay helpless on the floor. He looked so thin from malnutrition, his ribs visible through his torn shirt.
I sat there thinking of how to escape when the front door opened abruptly making a loud noise that startled me. It was one of the men. He looked huge and dark. He was holding a plate and a cup of water. He looked dangerous. He walked towards me and dropped the plate and cup of water.
"Eat while you still can and with that, he walked out of the room."
"Yes, that's correct, eat while you still can."
"What do you mean? " I asked
That was what they said to me when I was first brought to this place. I wasn't sure what they meant until they stopped bringing me food. " I could see that he was having a hard time talking.
"First they cut down the number of times they feed me in a day to two times, then down to one time in a day, down to three cups of water a day. Now all I get is a cup of water."
On hearing this I became paranoid. These people are after our lives but I wasn't going to die in a place like this. I knew I needed to find a way out
