Chapter 97 A Miracle of Life
Liam gently turned Grace onto her back, carefully lifting her shirt to expose her abdomen. His small hands moved with purpose across her body.
Positioning himself precisely, he inserted needles with lightning speed into four specific points on her body.
Then Liam inserted three more needles, but this time his movements were deliberate and slow. His fingertips gently rotated the needle shafts as he inserted them just beneath the surface of her skin.
Gradually, the bleeding from Grace's ears and nose stopped.
Max stared in absolute astonishment.
He could see that Liam was performing acupuncture—he actually knew how to do acupuncture!
What was even more unbelievable was how skilled his technique appeared to be.
Alexander was equally surprised. He had never heard that Liam knew acupuncture. Where could he have possibly learned this?
Emily nervously tugged at Alexander's arm, asking with feigned concern, "Are you really going to let him continue this reckless behavior? What if..." She put on a show of good intentions. "It looks like he's just randomly inserting needles. I know a little about acupuncture, and I've never seen this technique before."
She didn't step forward to intervene, assuming that Liam had simply seen acupuncture on television and naively thought he could save Grace's life this way. Little did she know that acupuncture was an extremely precise art. Even she only had superficial knowledge—she hadn't even reached beginner level and only knew the basic pressure points.
She couldn't believe a seven-year-old child could understand anything about this.
Ignoring the stares around him, Liam lit the lighter and heated a thin needle until it glowed red, then swiftly inserted it into a pressure point on Grace's arm.
For his final needle, Liam inserted it deeply into Grace's philtrum.
The crowd gasped in horror, watching with bated breath.
"The ambulance is here!"
Someone heard the sirens and shouted, "Over here! Over here!"
Soon, the ambulance arrived on scene.
Emily approached the paramedics. "Someone fell from a great height here. She needs emergency treatment."
"Got it!"
The doctor and paramedics rushed over. Liam had just finished removing the needles and immediately stepped aside when he saw them.
When the doctor saw the needle marks on Grace's body, he was alarmed. "Who did the acupuncture? This is completely irresponsible! What good could acupuncture possibly do for such severe injuries? This is reckless!"
Emily said apologetically, "I'm sorry, he's just a child who doesn't understand. He meant well. This won't interfere with treatment, will it?" She glanced toward Alexander as she spoke.
She deliberately said this so that if something happened to Grace, it would indirectly be Liam's fault.
Someone in the crowd recognized Alexander. "That's Mr. Hayes."
"Mr. Hayes from Crest Corporation? Is that child his son?"
"Yes... I recognized him just now, so I didn't dare intervene. How could he let a child act so recklessly? This is treating human life like dirt!"
"Shh."
Emily was secretly pleased.
She had deliberately not intervened, hoping that Liam would accidentally kill Grace with his needles.
If Grace died, what threat could she possibly pose?
The paramedic was about to examine Grace when they heard a cough. Grace's hand suddenly twitched, and her eyelids slowly opened.
The doctor hastily removed the needles from her face, arms, abdomen, and thigh, then performed a series of emergency procedures. Soon, Grace's consciousness began to return slightly.
A nurse exclaimed, "She's actually waking up!"
"Check her blood pressure."
"Yes." The nurse took Grace's blood pressure. "69... 72... 76... The patient's blood pressure is steadily rising!"
The doctor was also shocked.
Emily stood frozen in disbelief.
Excessive blood loss would cause blood pressure to drop, leading to shock and potential death.
Grace's blood pressure was gradually increasing, and her bleeding had slowly stopped.
How was this possible?
"It hurts," Grace moaned in pain. "It hurts so much."
"Mommy." Max rushed to her side with tears of joy. "Mommy, how are you feeling?"
Grace's consciousness hadn't fully returned yet. She was disoriented and couldn't hear Max's voice.
The doctor said, "Everyone step back. The patient has lost a lot of blood and needs immediate hospital treatment."
The paramedics lifted Grace onto a stretcher and into the ambulance.
Alexander approached them. "Let me ride with you."
The doctor looked puzzled. "You are...?"
Alexander replied, "I'm her family."
"Family? What's your relationship to her?"
Alexander, annoyed by the doctor's suspicious tone, said clearly, "She is my wife."
His words left everyone present stunned.
They looked toward Emily. Hadn't rumors been circulating that Emily was Alexander's fiancée?
Why was Grace now his wife?
Emily's limbs went cold. She knew Alexander was probably just concerned about Grace's well-being and wanted to accompany her to the hospital, but she hadn't expected him to call Grace his wife.
She was deeply shaken. "Alexander, don't go. What about Liam and Max?"
Max and Liam said in unison, "We want to go too!"
The doctor hesitated. "The ambulance can't fit that many people."
Alexander handed him a business card. "Tell me which hospital you're taking her to when you arrive. I'll come immediately."
The doctor took the card, glanced at it, and his hand trembled. His attitude immediately became respectful. "You're Mr. Hayes? From Crest Corporation...?"
Alexander said, "Don't ask so many questions. Saving her life is what matters."
The doctor's manner became extraordinarily courteous. "Of course, we'll contact you immediately when we reach the hospital!"
The doctor and paramedics got back in the vehicle, closed the doors, and the ambulance sped away with sirens wailing.
Emily felt scrutinizing and speculative gazes from all directions. Her scalp tingled, but she gritted her teeth and held back her reaction.
Alexander picked up Liam with one arm and took Max's hand with the other, heading toward his car.
Emily immediately followed. "Alexander."
Alexander said, "Stay here and wait for me, or I'll have my driver take you home first. I'll contact you when this is over."
With that, he walked toward Grace's car without looking back.
Emily stood frozen in place, her hands and feet ice cold.
In the ambulance.
Grace coughed a few more times. With oxygen being administered and various emergency measures being taken, her vital signs gradually improved.
"Ms. Foster, Ms. Foster, can you hear me?" the nurse said gently. "Ms. Foster, stay strong. We'll be at the hospital soon."
The doctor beside her marveled, "This is truly miraculous." Falling from such a height and losing so much blood—anyone else would have died long ago, yet she had managed to hold on until now.
The bleeding had stopped. As long as she could make it to the hospital, as long as she could hold on just a little longer.
