Chapter 299 Alexander and Liam Complain

Chapter 299 Alexander and Liam Complain

The timing was quite coincidental.

When Grace first found out she was pregnant, she thought she was carrying identical twins who would look exactly alike.

But it turned out they were fraternal twins.

Identical twins come from one fertilized egg that splits into two, so they share similar genes and appearance.

Fraternal twins, however, develop from two separate fertilized eggs, so their genes and even gender can be different.

That's why Liam looked like Alexander, while Max resembled Grace more.

If the boys had been identical twins, she might have had a chance to recognize Liam much earlier.

But fraternal twins were good too.

One looked like Dad, the other like Mom.

Grace suddenly thought of something amusing. "Do you think if Liam had grown up with me, he might have looked more like me?"

Alexander replied, "Genes are predetermined from the start. You don't start resembling whoever you live with."

Grace asked, "So who do you think the baby in my belly will look like?"

Alexander answered with complete confidence, "Me."

Grace's eyes widened in disbelief. "How can you be so sure?"

Alexander said, "Because I have strong genes."

Grace protested, "Don't I have strong genes too? Look at Max—he not only looks like me but is smart like me too!"

Alexander watched her pleased expression and curved his lips slightly. "Is it possible that Max looks like you but inherited my intelligence, while Liam looks like me but inherited your intelligence?"

Grace bristled at this. "I'm not stupid, okay? Are you saying you think I'm dumb?"

She'd been an excellent student!

She certainly wouldn't accept Alexander saying that about her!

Alexander raised an eyebrow. "Oh? So you're saying you think Liam is an idiot?"

Grace was completely stumped, her face flushing. "I didn't—I'm not..."

Alexander sighed dramatically. "Poor Liam, being called stupid by you."

The car pulled into the underground parking garage.

Alexander took Grace's hand as they headed home.

Max and Liam had already finished their homework.

Hearing sounds from the foyer, they knew Daddy and Mommy were home and immediately ran to greet them.

The door opened.

Max enthusiastically rushed forward. "Mommy!!"

Alexander entered first, and Max caught off guard, crashed into Alexander's embrace.

Realizing his mistake and trying to push away, Alexander grabbed him by the back of his shirt collar and pulled him into a hug. "Where do you think you're going?"

Max pushed against him in annoyance. "Let go of me! I want Mommy!"

Just as he finished speaking, he watched Liam dive into Grace's arms. "Mommy!!"

Grace was caught off guard and nearly knocked over, but managed to catch him just in time.

Max panicked. "You dummy! Can't you stop charging around like a little bull? Mommy has a baby in her belly now—don't knock her over!"

Only then did Liam realize that Grace was pregnant now, and he couldn't be as rough as before. He needed to be more careful. "Mommy, I won't do it again!"

Alexander set Max down and looked at Liam.

Grace watched his lips part slightly, and immediately had a bad feeling. She tried to reach up and cover his mouth, but it was too late.

Alexander said, "Liam, did you know? Your mommy thinks you're too stupid."

Liam froze completely.

His eyes went wide as he looked at Grace, his little hands curling against his chest in distress, his eyes drooping innocently. "Mommy...?"

Grace quickly explained, "No, don't listen to Daddy stirring up trouble. Liam isn't stupid."

Max glanced at Liam and couldn't help but laugh.

Alexander also burst into heartless laughter.

Grace looked at Alexander in amazement.

After all this time, this was the first time she'd heard Alexander laugh so openly.

She rarely saw him laugh, and she never expected his laughter to sound so magnetic, so pleasant!

But Liam felt even more wronged, hugging Grace's leg and shyly burying his little face against her. "Mommy! Liam isn't stupid..."

Grace shot Alexander an annoyed glare.

Alexander immediately composed himself, covering his laugh with a cough.

He agreed, then couldn't resist adding, "Right, Liam isn't stupid, but he's not smart either."

Liam's shoulders shook, and he angrily turned around and stomped hard on Alexander's foot!

Alexander frowned. "Why are you copying Max's foot-stomping now?"

Liam declared, "Who told Daddy to say Liam isn't smart? Hmph! I don't care—Liam is the smartest in the whole world!"

With that, he puffed out his chest proudly, put his hands on his hips, and huffed through his nostrils!

Grace knelt down in front of Liam and gently patted his little head, quickly changing the subject. "Liam, do you know when your birthday is?"

Her reminder suddenly made Max remember that his birthday was coming up. "Liam, our birthday is almost here."

Grace corrected, "Actually, Liam's birthday is one day earlier than yours—his is on the 21st."

Max made a surprised sound. "Weren't Liam and I born on the same day?"

Liam looked at Alexander. "Didn't Liam's birthday already pass?"

Alexander explained, "Because Daddy didn't know your actual birth date, your birthday was celebrated on the day you were brought home. Actually, your birthday is on the evening of the 21st at 11:45 PM."

Max said, "Then tomorrow is the 21st! Liam, let's celebrate our birthdays together!"

But Liam wrinkled his nose. "No way, I want to celebrate separately from you."

Max fell silent.

Grace said, "Okay, then we'll celebrate separately. Liam can have his day, and Max can have his."

Max agreed. "Fine. Separately then."

He looked at Liam, then suddenly smiled cunningly at Grace. "Mommy, for my birthday, don't order a cake from the bakery. I'll make my own cake."

Alexander looked surprised. "You can make birthday cakes?"

Grace nodded. "Yes, Max's baking skills are amazing! The birthday cakes he makes taste even better than store-bought ones!"

Liam's ears perked up as he looked at Max.

Mommy said Max's birthday cakes tasted better than store-bought ones?

His little mouth opened slightly, saliva building up and almost dripping from the corner of his mouth.

Max seemed to be doing this on purpose. "Poor Liam will have to eat store-bought birthday cake!"

Grace suggested, "Max, tomorrow is Liam's birthday. Why don't you make one for Liam too?"

Liam tugged at Max's sleeve hopefully.

But Max coldly and proudly refused. "I won't."

Liam pouted pitifully. "Max..."

He cupped Max's face, trying to give him a kiss on the cheek.

But Max pushed him away in disgust. "Who told you that you didn't want to celebrate our birthday together!"
