Chapter 297 I Didn't Mean You're Worthless
Chapter 297 I Didn't Mean You're Worthless
Alexander said, "I don't want to give her even a fraction of hope."
He wasn't lacking in methods to eliminate the two children in Emily's belly.
But to root out weeds, you must eliminate them completely.
Since Emily was coveting his assets, he would transfer those assets in advance. When the time came, Emily would finally realize that even if she stubbornly gave birth to the children, he wouldn't acknowledge them, wouldn't raise them, and wouldn't leave them a penny. Once she understood this reality, the fate of the children would be her decision alone!
Grace asked, "How much in assets do you actually have?"
With such vast wealth, the division process must be incredibly complicated!
Alexander frowned slightly. "Do you know how much I'm worth?"
Grace shook her head. "I've never calculated it."
Alexander said, "Even if I give you specific numbers, you might not grasp the scale. Just imagine this: from the day you were born, you win the lottery jackpot of five million dollars every single day, tax-free, for a hundred years straight. For five generations."
Grace exclaimed, "Holy shit!"
Winning a five million dollar jackpot was nearly impossible!
To win it every single day, even if she lived to a hundred, for five consecutive generations!!
She suddenly understood why Emily would stop at nothing to bear Alexander's children!
He was that wealthy?!
Grace said, "I knew you were rich before, but I never imagined you were this rich!!"
Alexander remained silent.
She truly had no idea?
Grace continued, "Alexander, if you're that wealthy, even when you were lying in bed as a vegetable, there would have been plenty of women willing to be your devoted widow just for that money! Why did your grandmother specifically choose me back then?"
Alexander replied, "Because... her purpose was simple. She only wanted to continue the Hayes family legacy. She arranged for you to marry me solely hoping you'd give the Hayes family an heir. Given your financial background, you posed no threat to the children's custody. Before you married me, she had you sign a prenuptial agreement, didn't she?"
Grace nodded. "Yes, I signed a prenuptial agreement."
Now she finally understood.
Mary had pulled off a classic scheme—getting something for nothing.
She'd been too naive back then, helping count the money after being sold!
Grace said, "Whatever you decide is fine. Either way, I'm not losing out."
Not only was she not losing out, she was the beneficiary. Why wouldn't she be happy about it?
Alexander asked, "Are you okay with how I'm handling this?"
Grace nodded. "Absolutely! Does this mean I can just live the high life now?"
Using Alexander's analogy, she'd wake up each day to five million dollars to spend, and after spending it all, she'd close her eyes, open them again, and have another five million.
She could become a complete slacker whose only job was spending money and enjoying life!
Alexander said, "You could still quit your job if you want."
Grace smiled, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. "Once you transfer that wealth to me, will I become the richest woman in the world?"
Alexander chuckled.
She was such an adorable little money enthusiast!
For some reason, while he despised Emily's greed, he found Grace's money-loving nature quite charming.
When Grace left the CEO's office and returned to the workplace, Anna immediately asked, "Where did you go?"
Grace settled into her seat, her face beaming with joy.
She looked at Anna and mysteriously winked. "I'm getting married!"
Anna shrieked, "You're getting married?!"
She momentarily lost control of her volume, and everyone in the office heard her.
They all looked up, turning toward Anna's direction.
Grace's face flushed red as she scolded, "Why are you so loud?"
Anna covered her mouth, looking embarrassed. "I got excited and couldn't control myself... Grace, why are you so nervous? Getting married is wonderful news!"
Emma smiled. "Grace, you're getting married? Did your boyfriend propose to you?"
Grace felt awkward for a moment, then quickly said, "Not exactly a proposal, but we're getting our marriage license first."
Emma asked with a grin, "Will we get wedding candy?"
Grace replied, "Yes, everyone in the project team will get some."
Lillian suddenly said sourly, "It's just a wedding, why get so excited? It's not like it's your first time getting married!"
Her words instantly spread malice through the air.
Grace looked at Lillian, knowing she was deliberately stirring up trouble.
Lillian continued, "Does your boyfriend know you've been divorced?"
Grace replied matter-of-factly, "Of course he knows. What's there to hide?"
Lillian didn't believe her and said mockingly, "He knows and still wants to marry you? Be careful—most men have no patience even with their own children, let alone treating you and your son from your previous husband well!"
Grace casually propped her chin on her hand and asked leisurely, "Lillian, you sound so bitter. Are you upset that I'm marrying well?"
Lillian's expression changed. "How could that be? We're colleagues—if you're marrying well, I'd naturally be happy for you! I'm just worried you'll meet another bad man and your second marriage will also end in failure! After two divorces, you'll be even more... devalued."
The atmosphere instantly became extremely awkward.
Emma looked at Lillian coolly and said, "Lillian, is this really necessary? As you said, we're colleagues. When a colleague is getting married, just offer your blessings. Why the cold sarcasm?"
Lillian said righteously, "I'm just looking out for her! There are so many male colleagues in this project team—go ask each one if they'd be willing to marry a twice-divorced woman with a son!"
After speaking, she turned to a male subordinate beside her. "Would you?"
The male colleague's expression turned strange as he shook his head. "I wouldn't. Never mind bringing a son—I wouldn't even want to marry a woman who's been divorced once."
Other male colleagues chimed in mockingly, "Gold diggers are different though. Unless she's really wealthy, I wouldn't marry a divorced woman."
"Exactly. Unless she has tens of millions in assets, wouldn't I just be a rebound guy?"
"Unless she gives me a house before marriage, plus a Mercedes G-Wagon!"
Grace said, "Oh, so you all dream of being sugar babies."
Everyone froze.
Grace continued, "People can dream, but you need to distinguish between dreams and reality. Being a kept man isn't that easy, and even if it were, it wouldn't be your turn. Though I have to say, I've learned something today about what we call 'mediocre but confident' men!"
Several male colleagues became furious and were about to explode.
But Lillian smiled coldly. "Grace, don't get upset. My mistake—those comments were thoughtless. I didn't mean to hit a nerve. Don't take my words to heart. I wasn't saying you're worthless. I just hope that since you've had one unhappy marriage, this one will have a better ending."
