Chapter 77 How Dare I Trouble Mr. Hayes to Lower Himself

Chapter 77 How Dare I Trouble Mr. Hayes to Lower Himself

"Alexander?" Grace looked surprised.

She hadn't expected Alexander to show up here.

Alexander walked over to her, glancing at her dislocated arm. "What happened?"

Grace shook her head.

She'd been badly shaken and her mind was in chaos—she couldn't even form coherent words.

Alexander slowly bent down and scooped her up in his arms with one fluid motion.

She was so thin that lifting her took no effort at all.

Grace instinctively clutched his collar, letting him carry her without the strength to struggle, though being held in his arms in front of so many people was undeniably embarrassing.

"Sir, please let her go."

"We need to get this injured person to the hospital immediately."

Alexander replied, "She's mine. I'll take her myself."

Everyone froze.

Alexander wore an impeccably tailored suit, custom-made down to the last detail. Even with such dramatic movements, not a single wrinkle appeared in the fabric.

His inherent nobility in every gesture made them step back instinctively.

"Either way, please get her to a hospital quickly! This lady's arm appears to be dislocated."

Alexander carried Grace out of the office.

Outside, crowds had gathered and were blocking the way.

Alexander's expression turned menacing. "Get out of the way!"

His harsh command sent a collective shiver through the crowd, who immediately cleared a path.

Alexander carried Grace into the elevator.

Inside the elevator, the space was enclosed and quiet.

Grace slumped weakly in his arms from exhaustion. He suddenly noticed that her dislocated hand was skeletal, and her joints and wrist bone had been scraped raw, with tiny beads of blood seeping through.

Alexander lifted her hand, and Grace immediately hissed, sucking in a sharp breath.

He said quietly, "Does it hurt badly?"

Grace nodded, her eyes immediately welling up with tears that threatened to spill over.

Perhaps it was her fragile appearance that truly tugged at one's heartstrings.

He was used to seeing her full of energy—compared to then, her current state stirred something protective deep in his heart. His voice and movements became gentler. "Don't move around. I'm taking you to the hospital right now."

Grace asked hoarsely, "How did you know to come?"

Alexander replied, "I got your call."

Grace was stunned.

Had he come because he was worried about her?

Impossible. Would this man care about anyone other than Liam?

Grace said, "What about Amelia? I watched her fall right in front of me. I don't know how she is."

Alexander replied, "No idea."

His cold answer radiated a bone-deep callousness.

He simply didn't care whether Amelia lived or died. Even if she died or was crippled, he remained utterly indifferent.

Grace was startled by his cold response for several seconds, but then realized this was exactly who Alexander was—such a reaction from him was perfectly natural.

She looked up at Alexander's icy profile, that knife-sharp jawline, every angle radiating arrogance and disdain.

Amelia's hysterical words echoed in her ears, 'The Hayes family has vast wealth and power. The Hayes family's core members control half this country's economic lifeline. Alexander commands wealth that controls half the capital markets! If the Hayes family pulled their investments, the global economy could regress twenty years overnight.'

'No one knows exactly how rich or powerful he is, but anyone this man can't tolerate in his eyes will die horribly—they won't see tomorrow! You can cross anyone, just don't cross Alexander! This man is ruthless to his very bones!'

Grace's heartbeat suddenly accelerated.

Alexander looked down. "What's wrong?"

She lowered her head, not daring to look at his face, and only said, "Don't let Max and Liam know about my injury."

Alexander replied, "Understood."

The elevator doors opened.

Alexander carried her outside, where they could see Amelia had already been loaded into an ambulance. The doors closed and the ambulance sped away with sirens wailing.

But the crowd hadn't dispersed yet, and their discussions continued.

"Falling from that height—the odds aren't good."

"I got a close look just now—both her arms and legs were twisted out of shape! I wonder if she's dead?"

"If the doctors didn't pronounce her dead on the scene, that means there's still hope!"

Grace listened with growing alarm.

She didn't know what methods Alexander had used to drive Amelia to attempt suicide by jumping from a building.

This only deepened her fear of the man.

...

At the hospital.

Grace's arm was reset and she was transferred to a ward for observation.

Perhaps from severe exhaustion, she fell into a drowsy sleep while on IV fluids.

When she woke again, dusk had fallen outside the window.

Grace sat up groggily, saying in confusion, "Max... Liam..."

By this time, Max and Liam should be getting out of school.

From nearby came Alexander's cool voice, "I've already sent someone to pick them up."

Grace looked in the direction of his voice.

Alexander sat in the corner, legs crossed elegantly.

He'd been watching over her all afternoon.

Grace stared wide-eyed in amazement. The IV had been removed at some point, and she was covered in sweat.

"Feeling any better?" Alexander asked.

Grace nodded.

Alexander said, "The doctor said you don't have any major problems. Apart from being shaken up, scraping the skin on your hand, and dislocating your arm, they didn't find anything else wrong."

Grace asked, "Is Amelia still alive?"

Alexander countered, "Does it matter to you whether she lives or dies?"

Grace replied, "It's still a human life..."

Alexander said, "She nearly got you killed. Even if she died, she'd deserve whatever she got."

He looked down, his voice turning cold. "If she's still alive, I'll make her wish she was dead."

This woman had dared to use Grace to threaten him.

Anyone who dared threaten him never met a good end.

Seeing Grace remain silent, Alexander suddenly said, "So far, I haven't received any special notification, which means she's still alive. However, falling from that height—if she's not dead, she's certainly crippled. You should be grateful that the one who missed her footing was her, not you."

Grace still felt shaken. "I was lucky."

She'd been wearing heels and had nearly missed her footing too.

She'd almost never seen Max and Liam again.

Grace asked, "Can I be discharged now?"

"Anytime."

Grace threw back the covers to get out of bed, but couldn't find her shoes.

"Where are my shoes?"

Alexander replied, "You lost them."

The man suddenly stood up, walked to the bedside, and bent to lift her.

But Grace shied away.

Alexander looked down at her somewhat stubborn little face. "What is it?"

Grace said, "How dare I trouble you to lower himself for someone like me, Mr. Hayes."

Alexander's lips curved in an ambiguous smile. "You're worth it."

With that, his strong arms slipped under her knees while one hand curved around her back, lifting her securely into his arms.
