Chapter 37 He is a Child with a Father
It was said that in the entire Silverlight City, there was only one quota for the Himalayan bag this quarter.
That means she was the only one who owned a Himalayan bag!
Mia felt extremely proud. "Tomorrow is Dad's banquet, and I'm going to carry this bag."
Evelyn said, "Great, when the time comes, all those rich ladies and socialites will be so jealous of you."
Mia pretended to be modest while showing off. "Jealous of what? Jealous that Jayden only bought me a 2,800-square-foot wedding house?" Thinking about the humiliation she faced at the sales office that day made her feel bitter.
Evelyn didn't care. "So what? This bag costs 5.6 million dollars. You're not even officially married into the Brown family yet, just dating Jayden. Which guy buys such an expensive bag for his girlfriend? Doesn't that show how much Jayden values you?"
Mia said, "But Grace has a 20-million-dollar mansion!"
Evelyn replied, "So what? The Brown family has plenty of money. This is just a temporary wedding house. Once you have a child for the Brown family, a 20-million-dollar mansion will be easy to get! Besides, has Grace ever seen a 5.6-million-dollar bag? Tomorrow, let her see it with her own eyes and show her what true aristocracy looks like."
Mia huffed, but deep down, she thought the same!
So what if Grace has a 20-million-dollar mansion?
She has a 5.6-million-dollar Himalayan bag!
Mia slung the Hermès bag over her shoulder, walked to the mirror, struck a few poses, and looked at herself over and over with a smug smile.
Evelyn said, "Tomorrow, you'll definitely be the most dazzling socialite! I can't wait to see Grace, dressed like a beggar from the slums, trying to compete with you. I don't believe she has a husband who'd buy her a 20-million-dollar house!"
Mia turned around and said, "Mom, just wait and see tomorrow! I'm going to make her lose face completely."
The next day.
Grace received a call from Evelyn. "6:30 PM, Imperial Hotel. Don't be late."
Evelyn hung up and sent her the address via text.
Grace hesitated. It seemed the Foster family was determined not to let her off.
Max, however, had already changed into his outfit.
He urged Grace, "Mommy, hurry up and get dressed!"
Grace said, "I don't want to go."
Max asked, "Is Mommy afraid those people will bully you?"
Grace nodded. "I'm afraid they'll bully you."
Max said, "I'm not afraid, so why should Mommy be? Besides, we're bringing Liam with us today. With him around, who can bully Mommy?"
Grace reluctantly changed into a new Hermès dress and a pair of mules, then walked out of the room.
Max took a look and gave a fair but complimentary remark. "Mommy looks beautiful in this outfit—understated yet luxurious."
Grace couldn't help but laugh at his serious expression, and her mood lightened up.
"Alright, you're the best at sweet-talking!"
As Grace held his hand and went downstairs to the living room, she saw Liam already waiting for her, dressed in a handsome little gentleman's outfit.
Both Max and Liam were wearing the new clothes Grace had bought for them yesterday.
Alexander had also changed into a simple, casual look. Compared to his usual suit, he looked more relaxed and approachable, shedding the cold and aloof vibe for a warmer feel.
Grace's gaze slowly moved up until it landed on his icy face.
Warm? What kind of illusion was she under to associate that word with Alexander?
Alexander asked, "Did you buy the clothes Liam is wearing?"
Grace replied, "Yeah."
Alexander was a bit surprised.
He thought this woman had no money, yet she bought such expensive clothes for Liam. Did she max out her credit card?
"How much? I'll pay you back," Alexander said, not wanting to owe her anything.
Grace said, "No need. Liam looks good in them, so I bought them."
Max glanced at Alexander and seemed a bit dissatisfied. He said to him, "Can you change your outfit?"
Alexander had specially cleared his schedule to accompany them to the Foster family's birthday banquet as promised to Max, so he didn't wear a suit for once. But Max thought Alexander looked the most handsome in a suit!
Alexander asked, "Change into what?"
Max said, "A suit, the kind you wore before, the one that costs over 100,000 dollars."
After all, it was a custom-made suit, and it looked incredibly classy.
Alexander said, "What's wrong with what I'm wearing now?"
Max replied confidently, "It's not good enough! Mommy looks so pretty, so you need to dress up handsomely to match her. Otherwise, how can you be worthy of standing beside her?"
Since Alexander was playing the role of his dad, Max wanted a super handsome, eye-catching dad who would steal the show.
Liam's nanny chimed in at the wrong time, "How could Mr. Hayes you not be worthy of your mommy?"
Max shot back without hesitation, "He doesn't match Mommy dressed like this. Isn't my mommy beautiful? Isn't she pretty? Are there many celebrities on TV prettier than my mommy? Hmph, you have no taste!"
Liam nodded, seemingly agreeing with Max.
Alexander gave the nanny a warning look. "Why are you butting in?"
He said to Liam, "Liam, wait for Daddy a moment."
With that, he headed upstairs.
Twenty minutes passed.
Max was getting impatient. "Why isn't he done yet?"
Was he upstairs getting all dolled up?
Footsteps suddenly echoed from the second floor.
It was the sound of soft leather soles on marble, elegant and pleasant.
Grace looked up and was momentarily stunned.
Max, seeing Alexander slowly descending the stairs, widened his eyes in surprise.
Alexander had changed into the latest Neapolitan suit, made of dark gray fabric with silver-threaded stripes, paired with a deep brown tie. It perfectly outlined his tall, lean figure.
So handsome.
Max couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
Alexander in a suit had an indescribable air of elegance. No wonder, yesterday at the Hermès store, the manager was intimidated just by his presence. He didn't need to say much; his every move exuded an old-money aura.
Alexander walked up to Grace, glanced at Max, who was clearly impressed, and asked, "Can we go now?"
Grace stammered, "Y-Yeah, we can."
Max suddenly grabbed Alexander's hand.
He frowned. "What now?"
"Did you remember your task for today?" Max said seriously. "Don't mess up when we get there."
"Task?" Alexander seemed to tease him on purpose. "What task?"
Max pointed at him, then at himself. "You're playing my dad and Mommy's husband. You have to be gentle with Mommy and make others think she has a great husband, I have a great dad, and we're a happy family."
Alexander asked, "What's the point of doing this?"
Max suddenly went quiet, mumbling, "You promised me. You can't go back on your word."
The point?
What point could he have?
He just didn't want those bad people to bully Mommy for not having anyone to back her up. He didn't want them to call him an illegitimate child or bully them anymore.
He was a kid with a dad!
