Chapter 151 Thrilling Scene
Alexander said, "You filled out the paperwork, but that doesn't prove the child actually died."
Jenny replied, "What do you want me to say to make you believe me?"
Alexander stood up. "We're calling the police."
Perhaps before this moment he'd still harbored some doubt, unable to be certain. But her behavior and reactions had convinced him—she was definitely involved in this matter.
Jenny's face immediately showed terror.
Alexander rose to his feet. "I suspect you were involved in what happened seven years ago. Maybe I don't have proof yet, but if you did this, you couldn't have covered all your tracks. The moment you left even the slightest trace, I'll find it."
Jenny also stood up. "Sir, is it really necessary to call the police? Instead of coming here to interrogate me, why don't you ask the deputy director at the hospital?"
Alexander replied, "The deputy director fled abroad due to involvement in trafficking crimes. I've already contacted Interpol—they're tracking him down."
Jenny was shocked again.
She hadn't expected this man to have investigated so thoroughly and already taken action!
Alexander raised an eyebrow. "So, will you come clean, or should I continue my investigation?"
Jenny bit her lip. "Can you give me some time? I need to sort through my thoughts."
With that, she turned and walked over to Grace, gripping her hand tightly. "You've had children too—you know I have a daughter. As a fellow mother, you should understand, right? I need some time. I'll give you answers before tonight!"
Grace's expression flickered as she looked down at Jenny's tight grip on her hand, pressing her lips together slightly.
Alexander was about to speak when Grace suddenly said, "Alexander, let's go."
"What's wrong?"
Grace took his hand and led him out the door.
Alexander's face was dark. "What is it?"
Grace said, "I think her psychological defenses have cracked. That's why she needs time—to handle things with her family."
Alexander asked, "You mean she's worried about her mother and daughter?"
Grace nodded. "No matter what you ask her, she won't talk in front of her mother and daughter."
She opened her palm, revealing a small note Jenny had slipped her when gripping her hand.
She unfolded it and read: [9 PM, Secluded Island, come alone.]
It seemed Jenny knew her cover was blown and wanted to meet privately. She clearly didn't want to discuss this matter in front of her mother and daughter.
Originally, she'd tried desperately to distance herself from responsibility, but Alexander had come prepared. Knowing her situation was exposed, she could only bite the bullet and deal with it.
As for what she wanted to discuss at the meeting—that remained unknown.
But why did she want Grace to come alone?
Alexander took the note and glanced at it. "She wants to meet you?"
Grace nodded. "Yes."
"I won't let you go to this meeting alone," Alexander said. "She's dangerous."
After all, with everything exposed, there was no telling what desperate measures she might take.
Grace replied, "Of course I won't go alone. But if you come with me, I doubt she'll show up at all."
Alexander asked, "So we call the police instead?"
Grace nodded.
She was also concerned. "But if we call the police, we have no evidence."
Alexander fell into thought.
He was also worried that if they called the police and Jenny was taken away, leaving her mother and daughter alone at home, if there was an organization behind Jenny, the elderly woman and child might be silenced.
Grace said, "Whatever we do, let's prepare for both scenarios. Tonight, I'll keep the appointment on time. I'll go alone, but you stay hidden nearby. If something goes wrong, you can step in."
Alexander agreed. "Alright."
Grace continued, "If we still can't get answers tonight, we call the police immediately."
Alexander asked, "Are you going soft?"
He saw right through her thoughts.
Grace said, "I think regardless of whether that woman acted deliberately or for other reasons, at least the elderly woman and child are innocent. We should try not to involve them if possible."
Alexander chuckled softly, tenderly kissing her forehead. "Grace, you're too kind. But in this world, good people don't always get rewarded."
Grace smiled bitterly. "Kindness is a virtue—it's not a bad thing."
Alexander asked, "Have you heard the saying that good people don't live long?"
Grace replied, "I have. I know good people don't always get good outcomes, but even so, I still want to be a kind person."
Alexander nodded, gently stroking her hair. "I respect your decision."
That evening, at exactly nine o'clock, Alexander's car pulled up at the island entrance.
Through the car window, Grace saw Jenny standing across the street, carrying a bag. Her expression looked anxious as she glanced around, occasionally checking her phone for the time.
Grace frowned and said to Alexander, "She's here."
As she was about to get out, Alexander gripped her hand. "Be careful. Do you have the device?"
He'd given her a stun gun to keep in her bag for self-defense if needed.
Grace said, "I have it."
Alexander asked again, "Do you know how to use it?"
Grace replied, "I learned."
She got out of the car, clenched her fists, and walked to the crosswalk.
Jenny also spotted Grace and recognized her immediately, though her face grew even more tense.
Grace waved to acknowledge her, looked around, and when the light turned green, began crossing toward the other side.
Just then, a car parked about thirty feet away suddenly roared to life and sped straight toward her.
The car had no lights, no horn. Grace instinctively tried to dodge, but the vehicle was clearly aimed at her. Grace was thrown six feet through the air.
Alexander had been watching the street situation when he saw the car slowly start up, immediately becoming suspicious. He pushed open his door and got out, but in just those two seconds, Grace had already been struck and sent flying.
"Grace!"
He felt his heart stab with pain, as if it had stopped beating for several seconds. With a long stride, he vaulted over the barrier, rushing toward Grace.
The light turned red.
A truck came barreling through.
Alexander dodged to the side, the massive momentum causing him to stumble and nearly fall.
He heard the screech of brakes and looked up to see a van stopped right in front of Grace. The next second, the doors opened and two men in baseball caps jumped out, dragging Grace into the vehicle. At the same time, accompanied by a scream, Jenny was also pulled in by her hair.
The doors slammed shut.
Alexander charged forward, but the van shot off like a bullet, speeding eastward with a burst of acceleration.
