Chapter 149 Finding Jenny's Whereabouts
The company's upper management was also in turmoil, restructuring operations and market strategies. Grace had suddenly been kicked out of the company group chat and received a termination notice.
The official reason was "employee optimization and improved management systems."
But with Amelia now dead, the company's ownership structure naturally needed readjustment.
This matter had been suppressed for a while, but the company's declining stock market value was already showing signs. However, Grace felt this wasn't necessarily a bad opportunity.
With stock prices falling, if they could buy back company shares now, this company still had considerable development prospects for the future.
Alexander asked, "Are you hungry?"
Grace touched her stomach. "Yes, I am."
Alexander said, "I just ordered room service. Get up, let's have dinner together."
He started to get up, but Grace suddenly grabbed his arm and asked, "Did you go back to see Max and Liam?"
Alexander replied, "Yes, I did. Max wants you to come home tonight."
Grace tensed up and quickly got out of bed to change clothes.
Alexander added, "But I negotiated with him. We'll stay one more night and go back tomorrow."
Grace felt inexplicably guilty. "We're staying here again tonight...?"
She wasn't used to sleeping in hotels and had trouble adjusting to new beds.
If she hadn't been so exhausted yesterday...
Alexander said, "By this time, they should have finished dinner and be getting ready for sleep. By the time you get back, they'll already be asleep."
Soon after, hotel staff arrived with their meal.
The executive suite's dining room was elegant and quiet.
The table was covered with a red velvet tablecloth and lit with candles as Alexander and Grace sat down.
Grace gazed at the romantic candlelight, somewhat dazed. "Is this considered a candlelight dinner?"
Alexander asked, "Do you like it?"
Grace smiled. "It's more romantic than I imagined."
The appetizers and soup were served first.
Alexander took a light sip of red wine when his phone buzzed.
He pulled out his phone and glanced at it—an email from Jeremy.
Alexander scanned through it quickly, then suddenly put down his phone and said to Grace, "We found her."
Grace asked in surprise, "Found who?"
Alexander said, "Jenny."
Grace became excited. "So quickly?"
She couldn't help but admire Jeremy's efficiency.
Alexander said, "Don't worry, I'll continue investigating this matter."
Grace nodded absentmindedly.
She wondered if finding this nurse named Jenny would lead them to that child.
Her heart was racing...
She didn't know if the child was alive, or...
She didn't dare think the worst, naturally hoping the child was fine. But if the child was still alive, how had he spent these seven years?
Was he doing well?
What had happened to him during all this time?
After dinner, Alexander stepped onto the balcony to call Jeremy back.
Grace sat on the sofa. The staff had just finished cleaning up the dining room and left when Alexander walked back in from the balcony.
She stood up, walked over to him, and asked, "What did Jeremy say?"
Alexander replied, "Jeremy has already sent me all her information by email—her home address, contact number, workplace, everything."
Grace asked curiously, "Where does she work now?"
"Harmony Hospital."
Grace was shocked. "Isn't that the psychiatric hospital?"
Alexander asked, "How do you know?"
Grace laughed. "Every resident in this city knows. Harmony Hospital treats many psychiatric patients. When people want to insult someone, they say they'll call the police and have them locked up in Harmony Hospital."
Alexander said, "I've already arranged everything. Tomorrow I'll take you to see her."
Grace nodded. "Okay."
The next morning, Grace woke up very early. Alexander was still sleeping, so she tiptoed out of bed, washed up, and got dressed. After getting fully ready, she sat on the edge of the bed and gently shook Alexander's shoulder. "Alexander, wake up."
She couldn't wait any longer to see Jenny.
Because of this matter, she'd worried all night and couldn't sleep well, having nightmare after nightmare, her mind heavy with concerns.
Alexander woke up and sat up in bed, supporting his forehead with his hand. Grace said, "Get up and wash up. Let's leave early. I want to see that woman as soon as possible—I have so many questions to ask."
"Mm."
After Alexander finished washing up and changing clothes, he left with Grace.
The car sped along the road.
Soon, they stopped in front of a residential neighborhood.
Alexander parked the car in the parking lot across the street, then entered the residential complex with Grace.
Following the building and apartment number from the email, Alexander successfully found Jenny's address.
The file showed that Jenny had an unfortunate childhood. Her mother fell ill early on, and her father was an alcoholic who was domestically abusive. After graduating from university, she worked as a student nurse at the hospital.
Later, she married once, had a daughter, then divorced. After the divorce, she lived with her daughter and mother.
This apartment was inherited family property left by her grandfather.
The door was somewhat worn and dilapidated from years of neglect.
Alexander knocked for a long time with no response, and when he looked down, his hands were covered with a thick layer of dust.
Being somewhat of a germaphobe, he took out a handkerchief and wiped the dust from his hands.
Grace asked worriedly, "Is no one home?"
Just as she finished speaking, the wooden door suddenly opened from inside.
A woman with graying hair looked out cautiously and asked, "Who are you looking for?"
Alexander said, "Is Jenny home?"
The woman frowned and asked, "Do you know our Jenny?"
Alexander replied, "Yes, I know her. She's my friend. Isn't she home?" He could immediately see that the elderly woman's eyes were full of wariness and suspicion.
He had carefully studied Jenny's file yesterday. Her father was a chronic alcoholic who indulged in drinking, gambling, and partying, accumulating massive debts. To avoid creditors, he lived with his mother and daughter, so Alexander had prepared a story to gain their trust.
The elderly woman remained guarded. "What do you want with her?"
Alexander smiled and said, "This is my fiancée. Jenny is my fiancée's friend. We're getting married, so we came to deliver a wedding invitation."
The old woman said, "You can give me the invitation, and I'll pass it on to my daughter. My daughter isn't home right now."
Alexander said, "Ma'am, this visit is rather presumptuous, but we really want to give the invitation to Jenny personally."
Just as the old woman was about to say something, a little girl's head suddenly popped up behind her.
"Grandma, who are they?"
Alexander's gaze fell on the little girl's face as he smiled and said, "That's Daisy, isn't it? Jenny always talks about Daisy."
This girl was Jenny's daughter. Alexander had seen her photo in the file.
Grace was inwardly amazed. She never would have thought Alexander could be so thorough, even remembering Jenny's daughter's name clearly.
