Chapter 110 This Was an Accident—You Fell by Mistake
Emily's heart raced with panic, but she forced herself to remain outwardly calm and composed as she spoke to Alexander. "Alexander, it wasn't me. It really wasn't. I admit I was there when it happened, but she slipped and fell on her own. I didn't push her—I reached out trying to catch her."
She moved closer to him as she spoke. "Think about it—that would be murder, wouldn't it? How could I, a doctor, do something like that? I was only trying to help her, but I couldn't reach her in time."
Alexander asked, "Why were you there in the first place?"
Emily replied, "I went to find her because I wanted her to leave you alone and stop clinging to you. You're already divorced—why does she keep hanging around? Haven't you noticed she's using Liam? I don't know what kind of manipulation she's pulled, but somehow she's got Liam completely under her spell, and she's using him to control you."
Alexander's hands fell to his sides.
He was beginning to piece everything together.
"I understand now," Alexander said. "You didn't push her. You were trying to help her up, and she's confused about what happened."
Emily's face lit up with relief. "Alexander, you believe me!"
Alexander said, "Put that down and get back in bed."
Emily pressed, "Then promise me you won't just take her word for it. I want to confront her face to face."
Alexander cut her off impatiently. "Get back in bed."
Emily immediately dropped the razor and returned to her hospital bed.
Alexander turned away, feeling a burning frustration building in his chest.
There was disappointment in his eyes.
He was disappointed that even now, Emily continued to lie to him.
She clearly didn't understand him at all, or perhaps she really did think he was fool enough to be deceived by a few simple words.
He was now certain that Emily was the one responsible for Grace's fall.
He couldn't reconcile his memories of the sweet-smiling, innocent little girl with the calculating woman who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted.
In the patient room.
Liam opened his eyes and was startled to see a tall, dark silhouette standing beside his bed. He instinctively curled his small hands defensively against his chest.
Then the man spoke, "Liam, time to go home."
Liam recognized Alexander's voice.
Alexander covered his eyes and turned on the light.
The harsh fluorescent bulbs flickered to life.
Once Liam had adjusted to the brightness, Alexander removed his hand.
Grace!
The first thing Liam wanted to do upon waking was check on Grace.
He started to get out of bed, but Alexander scooped him up in his arms.
Liam squirmed, eager to see Grace.
Alexander said, "Max is with Grace. You don't need to go."
Liam blinked his innocent eyes. Didn't Grace want to see him?
He mumbled, "I want to see Grace."
Alexander ruffled his hair. "Tomorrow. I'll bring you to see Grace tomorrow."
Liam crossed his arms over his chest, looking somewhat sulky.
Alexander coaxed gently, "Grace just woke up and she's still very weak. We'll come tomorrow, okay?"
Gradually, the angry expression faded from Liam's face.
"Okay!" Liam said. "Early!" He meant for Alexander to wake up early, take him to the hospital first, then go to the office.
Since Grace's accident, Alexander had been staying at the hospital constantly, but tomorrow he absolutely had to return to work.
"Alright," Alexander agreed.
He carried Liam out of the hospital.
The next morning.
True to his word, Alexander woke early. He had the nanny help Liam get ready and eat breakfast, then brought him to the hospital.
Liam didn't forget to bring his medicine pouch and medical kit.
It was only seven in the morning.
The nurse had just finished rounds, drawn blood, and checked blood pressure and vital signs, but was at a loss about Grace's wounds.
All of her injuries had been treated by Liam's medications.
Outside the door, Alexander pushed it open while carrying Liam.
As soon as father and son entered the room, Max bolted upright from the fold-out chair beside the bed. When he saw Alexander, his eyes narrowed with clear hostility.
Liam, unaware of the tension between Max and Alexander, greeted Max as usual.
"Max!"
Seeing that Grace was awake, Liam immediately walked to her bedside and called out cheerfully, "Grace!"
Liam's voice was sweet and childlike, absolutely adorable.
Grace weakly lifted her hand and gently touched Liam's round little head. "Good morning, Liam."
Liam nodded and looked at her wounds. "I need to change your bandages."
Grace had heard from Max about some of Liam's abilities yesterday, learning that Liam had saved her life. She found it quite surprising.
Especially when Max told her that Liam had used acupuncture needles to pull her back from death's door—that seemed absolutely incredible.
Was Liam really that gifted?
Liam placed his medical kit on the rolling cart, pulled back the covers, and prioritized treating Grace's most severely infected wound.
Since he'd been rushed before and used the powder application method, this time he decided to use moist dressings. He had already prepared small medicated gauze packets and gently placed them on Grace's injured areas.
Throughout the process, Grace was nervous, expecting the treatment to be painful. To her surprise, when Liam applied the medicinal paste to her wounds, there was no pain at all—just a cool, soothing sensation that actually seemed to relieve her discomfort.
After securing everything with gauze wrapping, Liam pointed and instructed Grace, "It might itch a little, but don't touch it."
Grace nodded obediently. "Okay." She definitely wouldn't touch it.
While Grace and Liam's interaction was harmonious, Max continued to glare coldly at Alexander.
Alexander noticed the icy stare and looked at Max.
Max didn't look away; instead, he glared even more fiercely.
Alexander said, "You don't need to look at me like that." Throughout the entire time, he hadn't approached the bed.
Max replied, "I don't want to see you."
Alexander remained silent.
Max pointed toward the door. "Get out."
Liam perked up his ears, hearing Max's fierce tone like a little lion defending his territory. He turned around and saw Max glaring at Alexander, looking somewhat puzzled as he tilted his head.
Max complained to Liam, "He doesn't believe me and Mommy."
Liam's eyes widened in shock, and suddenly his surprised, scrutinizing gaze fell on Alexander.
Alexander looked down and calmly adjusted his suit cuffs. "About what happened yesterday, I've already questioned Emily."
Liam listened intently.
Max stared at him expectantly.
Alexander continued, "She said she never intended to push anyone. The reason for this misunderstanding is because..." He looked at Grace. "When you lost your footing and fell, she tried to grab your hand but couldn't reach you in time."
Grace was stunned into silence.
She asked, "That's the explanation she gave you?"
Alexander replied, "She couldn't possibly have pushed you. This was an accident—you fell by mistake."
