Chapter 59crafty Cynthia
MONALISA'S POV
I do not know why my mother keeps appearing before me everywhere I go to. She and my entire family did hurt me and I'm not forgiving anyone soon.
That snitch and bitch Cynthia already has an evil plans up her sleeve to ruin my life.
Cynthia thought of how to get my mum open up to her about me and she needs to totally win my mum's trust to get the truth from her.
One of the ways is to get my number in her phone.
Cynthia began to monitor Athena's and Jayden's phones for an opportunity to steal my number from them.
However, it was so impossible. She resorted to getting it from someone who wouldn't suspect a thing and hand over the number to her.
Cynthia received a call from my mum, asking her to meet up with my mum.
Excited about the meeting, Cynthia got ready and drove down to their meeting place.
Cynthia arrived at the hotel my mum was staying and went into the restaurant, where she waited patiently for my mum.
My mum joined her and was surprised to see her arriving just on time.
Cynthia offered my mum a seat and signalled the waiter by raising her hand. The waiter finished with the customer he was attending to and went over to Cynthia.
"Good evening ma'am. May I take down your orders"
"Yes sure. A bottle of your finest red wine. I'll be paying ma'am" Cynthia smiled at my mum.
"Yes ma'am. I'll be right back" the waiter excused himself to get their orders.
"Good evening ma'am. Oh my goodness. You do not know how excited I am to meet you again. I have been waiting for your call. I'm glad that you called" Cynthia said reaching out to my mum's hands.
"I'm happy to see you too. But then, why are you this excited?
"Come on ma'am. You are my best friend's mother and I haven't seen you before. Of course I should be happy and excited to see you. May I say something. I'm pretty nervous"
"Why?
"That's because I do not know if you are truly her mother and if you are...you'll have to prove it by telling me the truth"
"What do you mean?
"Look ma'am. Monalisa is such a softy and she is a quiet lady but after her encounter with you at the restroom, she has been so restless and angry. Her attitude is quite saddening and it is kind of affecting her marriage"
"You talked about marriage the first time we met. Is my daughter, really married?
"Yes of course she is married"
"Who is she married to?
"I can't tell her that, that bitch is married to my man, to the wealthiest and richest billionaire in the city, never" Cynthia muttered.
"Yes?
"Your wine ma'am" the waiter said placing the bottle of wine and the wine glass. "Have a lovely evening"
"Thank you"
The waiter excused himself to take orders from other customers.
"You were saying something about the marriage..."
"Oh yes ma'am. Yes, your darling daughter is married to a guy who no one knows and no one knows that this guy is actually married"
"What are you saying? I do not understand"
"Okay ma'am. The truth is, neither of them wants the world to know that they are married to each other. Their relationship is really complicated. I think...it's more likely a contract marriage"
"A contract marriage? Why would Monalisa get herself involved in such?
"Money!
"What?
"I mean...maybe she is in need of money. But if she is...she ought to come to mew right? She wouldn't do so. She's never a fan of borrowing money from banks or from anyone. She rather work her ass off" Cynthia forced 0ut a smile. "I can't believe that I'm praising that bitch. I feel nauseous right now"
"That's so sad"
Cynthia poured some of the wine into the wine glasses.
She shook her cup a little sniffed the wine and took a sip, trying to get the taste of the wine.
"Impressive I must say. Quite a unique taste. Have a taste. The wine tastes good and smells good too"
"Yes dear"
"Tell me. Why does Monalisa hate you so much? What's her past like? She holds so much grudge against you. I wonder what evil you mated out on her" Cynthia leaned back and sipped some wine.
"A lot my dear. We have offended her so much. I hurt her by failing to protect her as her mother. My duty was really simple but I failed to carry it out. It's all my fault"
"Ugh! Seriously? I didn't bring you out here to cry and blame yourself. Ugh! So annoying" Cynthia muttered.
"I'm sorry dear if I made you uncomfortable"
"You did" Cynthia muttered and forced out a smile. "No, you didn't" Cynthia rolled her eyes and sat up. "Talk to me. I'm willing to listen. I will try my best to get you two to talk. Why don't I give you her number"
"You will? My mum's face it up with a smile.
"Yes, right after you tell me the truth"
"Well, I think it's seven or eight years ago, her father did something crazy"
"And what's that?
"He betrothed her to someone and fixed their engagement. Monalisa blatantly refused to get married to him. I tried to talk to her. On her engagement, she tried to run away but I stopped her and her father caught on hit her, he ended up injuring her. Instead of engagement, it was a wedding and Monalisa was forced down to the isle to marry him. She had to, because she was threatened with my life. I threatened to kill myself. That's why she hates me"
"Hold on. Monalisa is married? Cynthia tried so hard to hide the excitement in her voice.
"Not really?
"What do you mean by that?
"The wedding was disrupted and she escaped"
"Disrupted?
"By who?
"I couldn't see his face but that was the last time I saw Monalisa, until the day I saw her again at the supermarket. I was so happy to see her, so alive, so healthy and so beautiful. I'm such a terrible mother"
"How old was she when she ran away?
"She was eighteen"
"And her would be husband?
"He was twenty-three. It was a promise made by her father to his father to have their kids married in return for a huge favour granted by the boy's family"
"What favour if I may ask?
"He helped my husband out when his company was almost going bankrupt"
"I see. So you guys kind of sold your daughter to pay off a debt? Amazing. I would hate you too if you were my mother"
"I know..."
""But it's okay. I'll leave you with her number. Call her up and meet up with her and hey, do not tell her that I gave you the number. I do not want to get our relationship ruined just because I'm trying to fix yours. Got it?
"Yes dear. I won't tell. Thank you so much for your help. I do appreciate it all"
"It's nothing. Have the number. I already wrote it out for you. I'll go settle the bills and leave from there. Enjoy the rest of the wine and the night"
"Thank you"
