Chapter 55: a little payback
Jayden surprised by the turn of things was on his feet. He scoffed.
"Look what we have here. You didn't lace the chocolate with poison huh? Thank you Lord for exposing her lies" Jayden mocked her.
"Ouch! Jayden I'm in pains. I...I...I'm in..." Cynthia lost consciousness and fell back.
Athena was fast enough to catch.
"Sir Jayden, what do we do? She can't die here. We'll be in trouble" Athena said.
"What do we do. Think Jayden, think. Fuck...I'm out of ideas. Any ideas Mona?
"Let's take her to the hospital sir. Let's save her life first" Athena suggested.
"How do we take her out of here? I asked.
"I think I have to carry her" Jayden suggested.
"What! hell no! I objected.
"Uh! Any better ideas? Jayden asked.
"Sir, ma'am...every fleeting minute and second matters. Let's leave"
Jayden lifted Cynthia and carried her in his arms. Jealousy and anger flooded my face. I grabbed my gown, trying to keep my cool.
"Let's go ma'am" Athena said rushing out.
"She's not going to die. It won't kill her" I grabbed my bag and followed them.
Everyone was shocked to see Cynthia unconscious and being carried by Jayden. They began to murmur. Athena and I went after them.
We got into the car and drove down to the hospital. A stretcher was brought and Jayden laid her on it and she was taken inside.
Jayden was anxious and scared. He paced up and down, praying that Cynthia doesn't die.
"I didn't mean it when I said she should die. I just wanted to prove that she is indeed a bad person" Jayden said.
"I know. she will be fine. She won't die. She is not meant to die. She will feel pains, that's all"
"What are you saying? I hope she doesn't die"
"I assure you, she won't die"
An hour later, the doctor joined us at the lobby. We all were anxious to know how she is.
"Is she alive? Jayden asked.
"Oh yes she is alive"
"Oh thank you Lord. That scared the shit out of me" Jayden said folding in palms.
"It's okay. She is fine" the doctor said
"what's wrong with her doctor? Athena asked.
"Food poisoning" the doctor replied.
"She ate poison? That means the chocolate was really poisoned" Jayden said
"No. not that kind of poison. Whatever she consumed wasn't good for her health. She is safe now and awake. You can go and see her. What a gentleman she has for a boyfriend" the doctor said
"Boyfriend? Give me a break" I muttered.
"She's just my secretary. I'm married. May we see her?
"Yes sure. Go ahead in" the doctor said and walked away.
We went into the ward. The bitch was alive and awake. We three stared at her in silence and she stared back at us.
"I didn't poison the chocolate" Cynthia said.
"You did and you ask the doctor to lie to us that it is food poisoning. You are quite smart in a foolish way. What do you take us all for? Fools? Do you think we are dumb to buy that idea? Athena lashed out on Cynthia. "You just have bad intentions. You want to get sir Jayden and Ma'am Monalisa in trouble. You disgust me. I can't work in the same office with you. You might be good at sharing things but I'm not, especially with rotten people like you"
"Athena, I think you should step out and take a break" Jayden said.
"yes sir. I'm sorry for lashing out like that. Excuse me" Athena walked out.
"Did you really poison the chocolate? Jayden asked.
"No. I didn't. I was shocked when I felt that sharp pain in my stomach"
"I'll go see the doctor. You be with her. Don't let Athena close to her. She might tear Cynthia apart. She is really angry"
"Yes. Come soon"
"Yes babe" Jayden kissed my forehead and left.
I pulled a chair and sat closer to her.
"How does it feel? Does it hurt? I asked.
"A little"
"That's how it should be"
"What are you saying?
"Nothing"
"Something"
"Why did you insist on taking the chocolate? You made a plan to come back. Tell me, what is it?
"Oh Monalisa. Such a dumb ass"
"what did you just say?
"Yes I made a plan. I didn't lace the chocolate with poison. I purposely sent that chocolate and flowers to you. After getting fired by Jayden from my job, I needed to come back and be close to Jayden, so I came up with a master plan. I knew you all would think I poisoned the chocolate. I offered to eat it and if I'm proven innocent, I will have my job back. Guess what, I won and I'm back baby. Jayden is all mine. Just a matter of days, I will snatch him from you"
I scoffed. "I dare you. Cynthia, you definitely do not know who you are up against. You!
Jayden walked and Cynthia began to cough, requesting for water. Jayden poured some water into the glass and fed her. She pretended to be fine.
Jayden informed her we were leaving and that the hospital already called up her friend to be with her.
I bent towards her and whispered. "enjoy the pain that will hit you soon"
I smirked and went to Jayden, wrapped my hand around his hand and we left the ward.
We got into the car and I leaned back and shut my eyes.
I chuckled.
I had remembered something.
While driving down to Jayden's company, we made a stop at a pharmacy and got something and laced the chocolate as a little payback to Cynthia for trying to frighten me.
While I was about to grab the chair to sit close to her, I had drop the same substance into the jug of water.
"Enjoy the pain, bitch" I smiled
No one found out what I did. It was my secret.
Cynthia got discharged from the hospital.
It was weekend, I decided to go shopping and Athena offered to come with me. We're pretty close.
I reached out to a counter when I grabbed someone's hand.
"MONALISA"
I turned and froze up immediately, dropping what I had in my hand.
