Chapter 37
I'llSeems like I might have underestimated this gate just a little bit.
I hold onto the bars wondering what my next move is.The sun was at its apex and it feels like I'm being fried by the heat.A sigh leaves my lips as I lean on the gate even more.Seems like I'm going to have to trek.
"What the fuck are you doing in my man's house?"comes a sharp voice making me snap my head up revealing a stern faced Selena
Why is it always you?
She looks at me with piercing eyes as her lips moves up and down from the gum she's chewing on.My brain goes blank on any logical excuse I can come up with and my feels numb.I let out an inaudible um hoping something can out after that but as soon as it comes out her gaze goes down to my shirt and she lets out a loud gasp.
"Why the hell are you wearing his shirt?!"she asks as she comes closer making me step back
"Are you sleeping with him?Oh my God you disgusting bitch, how dare you?!"she continued, rushing towards the gate attempting to open the gate.
"Come out right now and answer me"she fumes
Her voice seemingly attracts a passerby who looks at me with a stunned expression, ignoring her a look at the glaring human with what seemed like smoke blaring out of her nose.
"Look it's not what you think okay"I start
Being in this position I feel very silly.I never thought I'd be in this position, younger me would probably slap me across the face.
Suddenly the passerby pops up right next to an angry Selena in a animated giggly demeanor
"Oh my you're THE Julliette Wayne"she says startling Selena and I a bit
"Um yes"I reply almost like a question
"Oh my gosh I'm such a big fan of your work"she goes on to say as she brings her phone out "I have to take a picture"she says
"What the fuck"says Selena before pushing her away gaining a shrill "hey" from the girl
She presses a button and the gates open and she walks in making my mouth open.
The key was right there???
As Selena storms in, her angry words resonate in the air, merging with the tension between us. "I can't believe you're even trying to explain this away! You're unbelievable!" She fumes, her eyes narrowed in disdain.
My frustration flares as I retort, "Selena, it's not what you're making it out to be. I'm not sleeping with him! It's just a shirt!"
Her expression remains incredulous as she scoffs, "Oh, spare me your excuses, Julliette. You always know how to play the victim."
As our voices rise, an unexpected clicking sound disrupts our heated exchange. My eyes widen in disbelief as I notice a group of reporters snapping photos from a distance. Panic surges through me, realizing that this private confrontation is about to become public fodder.
"Great, just great," I mutter under my breath, but it's clear that Selena overheard me.
"Is that what you're worried about? Your precious reputation?" She sneers, her tone dripping with disdain.
I glance at her, my anger momentarily subsiding as I see the hurt in her eyes. "Selena, you know it's not about that."
"Oh, spare me, Julliette. You've always been about the spotlight, and now you're getting exactly what you want." Her words cut deep, and for a moment, the argument feels less about the shirt and more about the wedge that has driven us apart.
As more reporters gather, their cameras clicking away, I feel the weight of the situation sinking in. This isn't just about Selena and me anymore; it's about headlines, rumors, and the frenzy of the media. My heart races as I realize the magnitude of the mess we're in.
With the chaos of reporters intensifying, Selena's frustration grows palpable. She clenches her fists, her eyes narrowing as she scans the crowd. "This is insane," she mutters, her voice seething with exasperation.
Taking a deep breath, Selena steps forward, her authoritative demeanor coming to the forefront. "Alright, that's enough! We don't have anything to say, so just back off!" she shouts, her voice cutting through the cacophony.
Some reporters seem taken aback by her directness, but others only get more determined. The situation escalates quickly as a few of them start shouting questions even louder, their flashbulbs blinding us.
Selena's face flushes with anger as she realizes her attempts to reason with them are futile. "Come on, Julliette," she grabs my arm, her grip firm as she tries to lead us away from the crowd.
As we start to move, the reporters, driven by their relentless pursuit of a story, refuse to relent. They start to move closer, pushing against the security guard and each other in their eagerness to get a shot.
Suddenly, things take a turn for the worse. Someone shoves Selena, causing her to stumble. She catches herself just in time, but her eyes blaze with fury. "That's it," she growls, her resolve solidifying.
Before I know it, Selena is marching back toward the reporters, her anger lending her an unexpected strength. "You want a story? Fine, I'll give you one," she snaps.
But the reporters aren't interested in a story, they're hungry for a spectacle. As they converge on her, I realize we're in a dangerous predicament. Panic surges through me, and instinct takes over.
I grab Selena's arm, pulling her away from the fray. "Come on, we need to get out of here!" I shout over the din, my heart pounding in my chest.
We break into a run, our footsteps echoing off the pavement. As we sprint through the streets, the reporters give chase, their shouts growing louder. The scene is chaotic, a surreal blur of flashing lights and yelling voices.
Gasping for breath, I spot an alley up ahead. Without hesitation, I veer off the main road and pull Selena with me. We dart into the narrow space, the sounds of the reporters fading into the distance.
Leaning against the alley wall, we both pant heavily, our hearts still racing. Selena looks at me, her eyes wide with a mix of fear and adrenaline. "That was... insane," she manages between breaths.
I nod, struggling to catch my breath. "Yeah, I didn't expect things to get this crazy."
After what feels like an eternity, the distant sounds of reporters' voices begin to fade. I peer cautiously around the corner of the alley, my heart pounding in my chest. It seems like the coast is finally clear, and the chaos has subsided. I turn back to Selena, who's leaning against the wall, her breaths coming in ragged gasps.
"Selena," I whisper, my voice a mixture of concern and guilt. "I think it's safe now. We should go."
She straightens up, her eyes narrowing at me. The tense silence hangs in the air for a moment before she pushes herself off the wall. "Don't think for a second that this is over," she hisses, her tone laced with anger.
I swallow hard, feeling a lump form in my throat. "Selena, I—"
She cuts me off with a dismissive wave of her hand. "Save it. Just go. You've got what you wanted, right?"
My heart aches at her words, and I struggle to find the right response. But before I can say anything, Selena turns away from me, her steps heavy as she walks out of the alley and back into the city streets.
I watch her retreating figure, torn between wanting to explain myself and realizing that perhaps now isn't the time. With a heavy sigh, I glance around one more time, reassured that the reporters are nowhere in sight. Gathering my resolve, I step out of the alley and start walking in the opposite direction from where Selena went.
I make my way to the nearest street corner and hail a cab.
