No one could have imagine it was her
"Who is she to you?" the female doctor asked.
Callie seemed not to hear the question, too shocked by the results of the examination.
They had actually checked...
"When did she come to the hospital and with whom?" Callie asked, lifting her head.
The female doctor replied, "Just today. A very handsome man brought her in. Later, I heard that man was the CEO of Skyreach Corporation, a real eligible bachelor. This patient named Lydia was brought in with disheveled clothes and injuries in private areas. It was obvious she had just been through something terrible."
Callie felt a wave of nausea.
She covered her mouth and dry-heaved.
The female doctor looked at her with concern. "Are you okay?"
Callie waved her hand. "I'm fine, thank you."
She handed some papers to the female doctor.
The doctor took them and said, "No need to thank me."
"I'll treat you to a meal next time," Callie said.
The female doctor smiled and agreed.
Callie didn't go to the ward to see Lydia. Her mind was a mess.
It wasn't that she wanted to suspect Shane, but when she asked, Shane didn't say anything.
And he was the one who brought Lydia to the hospital?
Still waiting for the test results...
If it had nothing to do with him, why would he bring Lydia here?
It wasn't that she wanted to overthink things, but the situation was right in front of her, and she couldn't help it.
A man taking a woman to the hospital was already enough to raise questions.
Still waiting for the test results...
She closed her eyes, trying to suppress the swirling emotions inside her.
She tried her best to stay calm.
Standing on the hospital steps, her body felt weak.
Her legs felt like jelly, and she could barely stand.
The driver walked over to support her and asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"
Callie shook her head and said, "I'm fine. Just remember, don't mention my visit to the hospital to anyone, understand?"
The driver replied, "Yes, ma'am."
Callie took a deep breath to steady herself and said, "Let's go back."
The driver helped her into the car.
On the way back, she kept trying to relax her body and expression.
By the time they returned home, she had managed to calm her emotions.
The car stopped, and she pushed the door open to get out. "Don't forget what I told you."
The driver said, "I won't say a word."
Callie nodded in satisfaction and walked inside.
She opened the door to find the house eerily quiet.
As she walked into the room, the dim light revealed a figure on the bed. That tall, slender form could only be Shane. She stepped closer and saw that Leif was there too, slightly curled up, lying in Shane's arms. It looked as if Leif was implanted into Shane's body.
She sat quietly on the edge of the bed, her gaze fixed on Leif. In the dim light, her expression was blurred and unreadable.
Reaching out, she gently caressed Leif's cheek. The baby's skin was soft and smooth, and the touch of her fingertips sent a wave of emotion through her heart.
This was her child.
Her precious little one.
"What are you looking at?" A deep voice broke the silence. She looked up to see that Shane had opened his eyes at some point.
She tried to keep her voice steady, "You're awake."
Shane reached out his hand, "Come here."
Callie didn't take his hand. Instead, she stood up and smiled, "I'm going to take a shower. You go ahead and sleep."
With that, she walked towards the bathroom.
Shane watched her retreating figure. Although she was smiling, he couldn't feel any warmth in it. Instead, it felt cold and distant.
What was wrong with her?
Suddenly, he no longer felt sleepy.
His eyes remained open, bright even in the dim room.
Callie entered the bathroom and turned on the shower. But instead of undressing, she sat on the toilet, fully clothed.
She had calmed her emotions, but for some reason, looking at Shane still made her heart race with anxiety.
She was scared, scared that Lydia might have really done something with Shane.
If nothing had happened between them before, given Shane's personality, it was impossible for him to be so close to her.
She took out her phone and studied the photo.
The angle of the photo was perfect. Lydia was tugging at Shane's shirt hem, looking like she was being coy. Shane was turning his head, making it impossible to see his expression, which made the two in the photo look like a couple.
Callie felt a pang in her chest, making it hard for her to breathe.
She clutched her chest and patted it gently.
The bathroom was filled with steam, the air growing more stifling and hotter, causing her to break into a sweat.
She got up, took off her clothes, and stepped into the shower.
By the time she came out, nearly an hour had passed.
She had stayed in the bathroom for an hour.
As she walked to the bed, Shane sat up, extending his arm to wrap around her waist. Callie, with the fresh scent of body wash, fell into his embrace.
She struggled a bit, but Shane only tightened his hold. His warm, moist breath brushed against her ear, "Did something happen? Do you need my help?"
"Why do you say that?" Callie asked.
"I can tell you're happy," Shane replied.
Callie lowered her gaze. She thought she had hidden her feelings well, but Shane had still noticed her unhappiness.
"I'm not unhappy, just a bit tired," she murmured, trying to keep her voice calm.
"Then let me hold you while you sleep."
Shane wrapped his arms around her as they lay down. She pulled Leif into her embrace, holding him close.
Soft moonlight filtered through the white curtains, casting gentle beams on the bed, the floor, and the table.
Callie couldn't fall asleep, but she closed her eyes and pretended to sleep, hoping Shane would think she had drifted off.
She woke up again before dawn, unable to sleep any longer.
She lay there, staring at the window.
Bzzz—
Shane's phone, resting on the table, suddenly vibrated. He woke up and quickly grabbed it, pressing the button to silence it, not wanting to disturb Callie and Leif.
He got out of bed quietly, put on his slippers, and walked towards the balcony.
He closed the glass door behind him and called back, "What's up?"
"Didn't you ask me to have someone keep an eye on Lydia? I saw her meeting with Dina," Henry said.
Shane narrowed his eyes. "Did you hear what they talked about?"
"We couldn't get too close. Dina is very cautious and didn't want to risk being discovered, so..."
"I understand. We'll talk more when we meet later."
He hung up the phone, slid open the glass door, and walked to the bedside. Just as he was putting his phone down, Callie spoke up, "Whose call was that?"
It wasn't that she was overly sensitive, but ever since the incident with Lydia, a shadow of doubt had lodged itself in her heart.
It tormented her.
Just now, Shane had even stepped out to take the call, which only made her more uneasy.
"It was Henry. He needed to discuss something with me." Shane sat on the edge of the bed, gently smoothing her messy hair. "It's still early. Why don't you get some more sleep? I need to take care of something."
Callie bit her lip. "What could be so urgent? It's not even dawn yet."
Shane chuckled, his voice low and husky from just waking up, making it irresistibly magnetic. "What, you don't want me to go?
"I didn't," Callie denied quickly, then fell silent. After a moment, she whispered, "Yes, I don't want you to leave."
Shane liked it when she clung to him, so he readily said, "Alright."
His response was immediate, without any hesitation or doubt.
Callie's suspicions wavered. Had she misunderstood him?
After all, he genuinely love his son Leif.
She felt conflicted inside.
"What are you thinking about, huh?" Shane reached out to hug her, but Callie instinctively dodged. She didn't do it on purpose; it was just that her doubts about him and Lydia made her resist his intimacy subconsciously.
Shane's hand froze in mid-air.
Callie hurried to explain, making an excuse, "Leif is here."
Shane glanced down at their son, who was sound asleep and wouldn't wake up.
He noticed that Callie was acting strangely today, but he didn't show it. Calmly, he withdrew his hand, pinching her small nose halfway through, "I won't get mad at you."
Callie pretended to be hurt and glared at him, "You just like to bully me."
Shane glanced at the time. "You get some sleep. I'm going to the living room to get some water."
Callie nodded.
Shane gave her a long, meaningful look before getting up and leaving the bedroom.
He sat down on the sofa, picked up the phone on the table, and dialed a number. The call was quickly answered.
"President Robinson," came a groggy voice from the other end.
"Come over, now," Shane said.
"Alright, on my way."
Shane heard the click of the call ending.
He leaned back on the sofa, pressing his fingers to his temples, feeling a bit weary.
It wasn't long before the driver walked in.
"President Robinson."
Shane slowly lifted his gaze, his body unmoving. "Where did she go yesterday?"
The driver looked down, clearly uncomfortable. "The Young Mistress instructed me not to say."
"Hmm?" Shane raised an eyebrow, his displeasure evident. The driver immediately caved. "She went to the hospital."
"Which hospital?" Shane seemed to have an idea.
"She went to Peace Hospital," the driver answered.
It wasn't that he wanted to break his promise, but he was paid by Shane and couldn't afford not to do his job. So...
Shane closed his eyes for a moment. "Got it. You can go now."
"Yes, sir."
The driver left.
Shane took a deep breath, slowly stood up, and headed towards the bedroom.
Pushing the door open, he saw Callie still lying on the bed.
She was propped up on one elbow, watching their sleeping baby.
Shane walked in and gently picked up Leif.
"What are you doing?" Callie whispered in surprise. "You'll wake him up."
Shane replied, "I'll be careful."
With that, he carried Leif out of the room.
Callie got out of bed, not even bothering to put on her slippers, and followed him. "Where are you taking him?"
"To Mrs. Ford."
Callie grabbed his arm. "It's already morning. He'll wake up soon."
"Let Mrs. Ford take care of him for a bit. I need to talk to you."
His expression was serious and determined.
Callie slowly released her grip, silently agreeing to his actions.
She stood at the doorway, watching Shane hand Leif over to Mrs. Ford.
Soon, Shane walked back towards her.
She asked, "Do you have something to say to me?"
Shane didn't respond. Instead, he swept her slender body into the room like a gust of wind, and the door shut with a loud snap!
Callie pushed against him, "What are you doing?"
Shane remained silent, and his overwhelming kisses rained down on her.
She felt uneasy and couldn't be intimate with him.
Struggling stubbornly, she murmured, "Mmph... Shane..."
Shane didn't release her despite her resistance; instead, his kisses deepened.
Callie couldn't fight back.
Her body went limp in his arms!
After a long while, when she completely lost the strength to struggle, he finally let go.
Callie slowly lifted her eyes, her thick, curled lashes glistening with tears, "Why are you doing this to me?"
Her voice was hoarse, tinged with a faint sob.
She wasn't the type to cry.
But at this moment, her heart was aching.
Shane lowered his gaze and asked, "Does it hurt? Are you heartbroken?"
Callie looked up, "You..."
"You didn’t ask me if something happened?" Shane looked at her intently, "Do you think I have another woman?"
Callie's eyes were clearly filled with shock, her bright eyes like a clear stream, flowing gently. "You, how do you know?"
Shane didn't answer her question. Instead, he asked, "Did you see Lydia?"
Callie shook her head. "No."
"Hmm?" Shane seemed skeptical of her response.
Callie explained, "You know, I used to be a doctor. I have some doctor friends, so I saw Lydia's medical records."
"So you thought it was me?"
Callie shook her head again. She stepped out of his embrace, walked barefoot to the bedside table, bent down to pick up her phone, and found a photo to show Shane. "Look."
Shane didn't take the phone but glanced down and saw the photo.
Callie continued, "Because of this photo, I went to the hospital. It was easy for me to find Lydia, but I didn't go see her."
"So, you suspected me?" Shane asked, even though he already knew the answer.
Callie sat down on the edge of the bed. "If it were you, wouldn't you be suspicious?" "Get dressed," Shane said.
Callie didn't move. "Why? You haven't explained anything to me yet."
"I'm taking you to get the answer," Shane replied.
Callie still didn't move, so Shane urged her, "Hurry up."
Reluctantly, she went to change her clothes.
Shane led her out the door.
They hadn't been driving for long when they arrived at the company.
Henry was already there.
Seeing Callie and Shane arrive together, Henry paused, seemingly surprised by her presence.
Shane led Callie into the office.
"Explain the situation," Shane demanded.
Shane pulled Callie to sit on the couch with him.
Henry glanced at Callie, his eyes shifting as if he understood why Shane had brought her. He then spoke carefully, "Lydia met with Dina. I couldn't find out what they talked about, but I pretended to be concerned and visited Lydia at the hospital. I probed her a bit, and Lydia hasn't switched sides to Dina. She told me everything about their conversation, and I believe she wasn't lying."
He took out his phone and played the recording of the conversation.
"I came to see you. If you're feeling better, I'll take you out of the hospital. President Robinson asked me to arrange a good job for you," Henry said with concern.
Lydia felt a bit touched by his words.
Taking the opportunity, Henry continued, "Oh, by the way, I heard from the nurse that you went out?"
Lydia replied, "Yes, Dina asked to meet me."
"What did she say to you?" Henry asked with a smile.
"As soon as we met, she asked if Shane knew I was meeting her. I said no, and she seemed to relax a lot. Then she told me she had taken photos of me and Shane at the hospital and sent them to Callie to create conflict between them. She said if I listened to her, she would help me get Shane. But I'm not stupid. She ruined my reputation. How could I ever trust her again?"
Henry responded, "Exactly. No man doesn't care about a woman's reputation."
He deliberately emphasized this point, trying to make Lydia understand that Shane could never like her anymore because she had lost her purity.
Of course, saying that only made Lydia hate Dina even more.
Henry noticed the look of hatred in Lydia's eyes.
It was directed at Dina.
Callie suddenly realized that the photos had been sent by Dina. Her intention was to drive a wedge between her and Shane. But what she couldn't understand was how Lydia got involved with Dina. "What exactly happened here?"
"Let's finish listening first," Shane said, holding her hand.
Callie had to suppress her curiosity and continue listening.
Lydia's voice came through the recording once again!
"So, Shane could never like me, right?"
At that moment, Henry thought to himself, "You? Even if nothing had happened, Shane would never like you."
Still holding onto that hopeless dream?
But he couldn't say that out loud.
"Yes, because Dina set you up, you never had a chance."
Even if Henry didn't continue to steer Lydia's hatred towards Dina, she already resented Dina deeply.
"I hate her."
Henry turned off the recording. "Based on my observations of Lydia, she genuinely hates Dina. The hatred doesn't seem fake."
Callie quickly interjected, "Now, can someone tell me what exactly happened?"
Henry glanced at Shane, and after receiving his nod of approval, he began, "Here's what happened..."
He recounted the entire story and concluded, "Lydia is still in the hospital."
After hearing everything, Callie patted her chest in relief. Thankfully, it had nothing to do with Shane.
It turned out that Lydia ended up in this situation because she believed Dina's words and was manipulated by her. The thought that she could so easily ruin a woman's reputation served as a stark warning to Callie.
Dina was someone she needed to be wary of!
After all, she and Shane were like fire and water, and now she was Shane's partner.
She would definitely be hated by association!
Callie's sigh of relief did not go unnoticed by Henry, who confirmed his suspicions and deliberately teased, "You didn't think it was President Robinson who did that to Lydia, did you?"
Callie remained silent. She had indeed suspected it.
Her silence at this moment was equivalent to an admission.
Henry's face lit up with a gossiping expression.
So Shane brought Callie here just to explain things to her?
Oh my, even he had days like this?
Why did he find it so amusing?!
Shane shot him a cold glare, and Henry immediately shrank back, making an excuse, "I have something to do..."
"Wait." Shane called out to him, "Take the document on my desk and give it to Lydia. Make sure she hands it to Dina. Do you know how to instruct her?"
Henry replied, "Don't worry, President Robinson. I know exactly what to do."
"Alright, go ahead."
Henry walked out of the office, holding a file.
Callie asked, "What kind of file is that?"
Shane, gripping her hand, replied, "It's something that will trick Dina."
Callie turned her head to look at him. His chiseled features and confident demeanor made him look particularly charming at that moment.
She realized she was falling more and more in love with him.
Across from their company was a high-end breakfast restaurant. The food there was exquisite and tasted great.
Because it was in a business district, people often met there to have breakfast and discuss work.
"I want to get back to my work," Callie suddenly said.
She had handed over the company to Myron, and now she had nothing much to do. It was the perfect time to focus on what she wanted to do and achieve her dreams.
Shane said, "I can take care of you."
"No," Callie immediately refused.
She couldn't spend her whole life just at home. She had dreams and wanted to achieve something on her own.
Shane looked at her for a couple of seconds. Keeping her confined at home might really be a waste of her talents.
After all, she was a skilled person with her own strengths.
"Alright, which hospital do you want to go to? I can help you get in..."
"No, no, no," Callie interrupted before he could finish. "I don't want any shortcuts. I just want to rely on my own abilities and go as far as I can."
Besides, in her profession, lacking skills and taking shortcuts could harm others.
She wanted to advance step by step, solidly and steadily.
Shane chuckled, "Alright, we'll do it your way, but..."
He changed his tone, "Next time something like this happens, come to me directly. Don't bottle it up or sulk."
Callie nodded softly.
This time, she indeed hadn't handled things well.
"I should have trusted you."
Instead of blindly trusting someone else and giving him the cold-shoulder
If Shane hadn't noticed, and she continued to harbor doubts, it would have inevitably affected their relationship.
Their relationship was just starting to progress and wasn't yet unbreakable.
Shane picked up a steamed dumpling and held it to her mouth. "Try this, it tastes great."
Callie felt a bit shy but opened her mouth anyway.
As she took a bite, the savory juice burst out, and the dumpling was tender and chewy. She mumbled, "Delicious."
She picked up a dumpling and popped it into her mouth.
Shane watched her cheeks puff up like a hamster's and couldn't help but chuckle. He picked up a napkin and gently wiped the soup from the corner of her mouth. "Slow down, no one's going to take it from you."
Callie chewed a few times and swallowed, then picked up another dumpling and raised her small face, offering it to Shane's lips. "I won't eat it all by myself."
Shane smiled, not because of the dumpling, but because Callie was feeding it to him.
After finishing their meal, Callie said, "I'm going to the hospital. I'm afraid Myron might misunderstand and think you killed Gianna, which could be bad for you. I don't want him to make a mistake. He lost his mom and dad. I hope we can be family."
She was very worried that Myron might go down the wrong path.
Shane nodded in agreement.
He arranged for a driver to take Callie to the hospital.
When she arrived at the hospital, Caitlin had already completed the discharge paperwork and was packing up in the room, getting ready to go home.
Callie saw Myron getting ready to leave and asked, "Your arm isn't fully healed yet. Why are you leaving so soon?"
"Even in the hospital, I'm just lying there with my arm in a sling. It's not as comfortable as walking around. The doctor said I could recover at home. Besides, sis, you're a doctor. If anything happens at home, I still have you, right?" Myron said with a smile.
He acted as if nothing had happened, his mood seemingly much improved.
Callie looked at him and said, "I'm a surgeon, not an orthopedic specialist."
Then she added, "But if the doctors say you can be discharged, then it must be fine."
In fact, Callie thought it was good for Myron to be discharged. Staying in the hospital room all the time could make him overthink. With a driver available, they left the hospital and headed back to the Norris Family home.
Caitlin asked Callie to call Shane and invite him over for lunch.
Callie refused outright, knowing Shane was probably busy and wouldn't have the time.
"Mom, maybe next time."
Caitlin also knew Shane couldn't be that free. Ever since she accepted him, she found everything about him to be good.
A mother-in-law looking at her son-in-law, the more she looked, the more she liked him.
Callie glanced at Caitlin as she entered the room and then turned serious. "Myron, Shane has no grudge against you. He wouldn't harm your mother. You mustn't believe any conspiracies or schemes others might tell you..."
"Sis, what are you talking about? What does this have to do with brother-in-law?"
Myron quickly interrupted her, "I wasn't doubting you."
Callie looked skeptical, "Really?"
"Really. Oh, by the way, sis," Myron stood up and walked towards the study. After a moment, he returned with an invitation in hand.
"This is an invitation to a medical symposium. I thought you might be interested."
Callie's eyes lit up with excitement, "Where did you get this?"
As she spoke, she reached out to take the invitation.
Myron's eyes flickered slightly as he replied, "I overheard some people at the hospital talking about it and pulled some strings to get it."
Callie playfully slapped him, "You're something else!"
"Ah..." Callie suddenly exclaimed in surprise!
"Myron, what's going on?" Callie asked.
"Look at the time, it's today, and it starts at 9:30 am. It's already 8:50. If I don't leave now, I'll be late. I have to go, or the invitation you worked so hard to get will be wasted. I can't miss this."
She hurriedly stood up, not forgetting to thank Myron. "Thank you."
Myron looked at her and said, "No need to thank me, you're my sister."
"I'll treat you to a nice meal next time, something really good," Callie said as she headed out the door. "I have to go now."
Callie quickly got into the car. "Hurry, we need to get to the Second Military District General Hospital."
The driver immediately started the car and curiously asked, "Going to the hospital again?"
Callie patiently replied, "I have something important to do. Just drive quickly, or we'll be late."
The driver nodded and said, "Yes, ma'am."
At 9:25 am, Callie arrived at the lobby of the research center behind the Second Military District General Hospital.
But there was no one there.
She was puzzled and checked the address on the invitation again. It was correct; the address was indeed here.
Why was there no one?
She took out her phone to call Myron.
Just then, she noticed a faint medicinal smell.
Because she was in a hospital, the strong scent of disinfectant had masked it. It took her a moment to recognize what kind of medicine it was. When she realized her body was becoming weaker and weaker, she understood what was happening.
Could it be that she had fallen into a trap?
"Driv—"
Just as she was about to call out for the driver, a hand suddenly covered her mouth.
She turned around and saw Myron.
Her eyes widened in shock. "Myron, how could it be you?"
"Sis, I won't hurt you. My mom is dead, and now only you and I share the same blood. But I won't let Shane go."
Myron no longer had the innocent look he showed in front of Callie. Now, he appeared calm and composed, with a maturity that Callie had never seen before.
"I've explained to you, he has no reason to—"
"He does." Myron interrupted Callie. "He knows my mom used to bully you and your mom, so he killed her to avenge you both."
Callie was stunned. Quickly, she noticed a flaw in his reasoning. "He doesn't know about the grudge between me and your mom.
Who told you this?"
"That's not something you need to worry about. Just know that I won't hurt you."
"Myron..."
Callie tried to persuade him, to explain things to him, but a heavy blow struck the back of her head. Her vision went black, and she lost consciousness.
Myron had someone place her on a stretcher and load her into the car.
The car door closed with a soft click as he turned to look at the person standing under the tree, their back facing him.
"I don't know what your intentions are, but I won't harm Callie. She's the only family I have left now."
The person standing there didn't turn around.
Myron got into the car and drove away.
Once he was gone, the person turned around.
The face revealed was none other than Corey's newlywed wife!
Her eyes were dark and menacing.
Although she also wanted to get rid of Callie, she had learned to be smarter about it. She couldn't act directly; she had to use others to achieve her goals.
Myron was the pawn she had chosen.
She thought Myron hated Callie as much as Gianna did.
But who would have guessed that he actually cared about her?
Her plan was to kill Gianna, frame Shane and then have Myron go after Shane and Callie, allowing her to control everything from behind the scenes.
But Myron's refusal to harm Callie meant her plan was only half successful.
Though not entirely satisfied, it still had some effect.
She had been planning this revenge for a long time.
The plan was meticulously laid out.
Henry would trace the information back to the Robinson Family, exactly as she intended.
With Shane and Old Master Robinson currently at odds and under intense scrutiny, it was only natural for her to direct all suspicion towards the Robinson Family.
Besides, she was operating in the shadows, and everyone believed she was dead.
No one would ever suspect her.
...
Night had fallen, and Callie still hadn't returned. The driver searched everywhere but couldn't find her, so he reported the situation to Shane.
"What?" Shane had just returned home and was standing at the door, not yet inside.
The driver repeated that Callie was missing.
Sweat beaded on his forehead.
Fearing that something had happened to her, Shane grew angry.
"How long has it been?" Shane asked.
"About six or seven hours now. After she got out of the car, I went to park it. When I came back, I didn't see her. I thought she had some business to attend to, so I waited here for her. But she never came out. I went looking for her, but I couldn't find her anywhere..."
Shane was furious. "Didn't I tell you to ensure her safety?"
The driver he assigned to Callie was primarily a bodyguard, with driving being a secondary duty. Yet, he had managed to lose her!
The driver knew he had been careless. "I'm sorry."
Shane didn't want to hear apologies right now. "Where did she go missing?"
"The Second Military District General Hospital."
Shane hung up the phone and turned, striding quickly towards his car. As he walked, he dialed Henry's number, but before he could finish, his phone rang.
It was Callie's number.
He answered immediately.
"Callie..."
"This is Myron. I'm calling you from my sister's phone, but I'm not her," Myron's voice was cold and detached. "If you want to save her, come to the abandoned building at Daheng. You'd better come alone, or I can't guarantee you'll see her again."
"Don't harm her." Shane's voice was calm and steady, but Myron still flinched.
There was an invisible pressure in his tone!
Even without seeing his face, just hearing his voice through the phone was enough to feel it.
Myron, lacking experience and unable to match the imposing aura, forced himself to stay calm. "Whether I touch her or not, that's up to you," he said before abruptly hanging up the phone.
Shane got into his car and set the GPS to the address Myron had given him. When he arrived, he stepped out of the vehicle and found himself in a desolate area. Broken bricks, scattered stones, and pieces of wood littered the ground. The concrete framework of an unfinished building loomed, casting a cold, eerie shadow over the place.
He walked in, but there was no one in sight.
Just then, his phone buzzed with a text message from Callie's phone.
The message read, "Sorry, I gave you the wrong address. Come to the East Dock."
It was clear that Myron was the one sending the messages, deliberately trying to mess with him.
Shane's face darkened with frustration.
At this moment, he had no choice but to comply, as Callie was still in Myron's hands.
He turned back to his car and drove to the East Dock.
As soon as he was about to get out of the car, his phone buzzed again.
Another message from Myron: "Oops, my bad, wrong address again."
Shane didn't move, staring at the screen, knowing another message was coming.
"Sorry again, it's actually the original address."
Shane took a deep breath, trying to keep his patience in check, and restarted the car.
He drove back to the abandoned building.
When the car came to a stop, he didn't get out immediately. Who knew if Myron would give him the wrong address again out of sheer "childishness"?
After a brief moment, Shane decided to get out. He climbed the dusty, concrete stairs and made his way up.
This time, he finally saw Callie!
